Hi Yanti! Yeah you are right... despite being on holiday Ive been getting up pretty earlyish and going to bed on time too but I think the heat and the training is making me sleepy...

I might try to nap tomorrow too! Might as well go back to work fresh Monday..I hope...especially since I was in my work email this afternoon to sort out Triathlon Girls stuff and saw a note from the boss..new girl has resigned and left today...so she started the week before I went on leave...my manager and I both start back Monday...its an interesting week ahead and I still have the weekend to get through before Im back in the office!

Artemis - 2009-01-09 10:13 AM Morning Nibbs!!  My Science paper showed up as an advanced publication so it will be in the magazine soon.  I'm excited.

Way cool!

I read the abstract.  Lemme see if I'm even close to understanding this.

Stat3 is in the liver and heart, y'all found out it regulates some stuff (how's that for scientific), and (here is my total guess) it could be used to help with certain conditions in those two organs?

Am I even in the ballpark?

Not too bad.  Basically, we found that Stat3 is involved in the electron transport chain in mitochondria in the liver and the heart.  Electron transport chain is what generates energy.  Without Stat3, things don't work as well.

sesh - 2009-01-09 11:52 AM Cool.  How long have y'all been working on this?

Probably two to three years?  I got called in this time last year to help them finish up some work (I'm in a different lab than the main group) so that they could actually get the paper published.  It had already been sent back and they needed to find out if more things were involved.  I did a bunch of work, it got put in (with more work from the original lab), paper got accepted in September and finally got published.
