"BTW - This group has been wonderful for me."

Me too. Thanks guys. Sometime it's hard to not get overwhelmed with all the people around here at peak fitness already and not feel out of place. You guys have made me feel right at home and it's great to have people to talk to that are going through the same thing. Even if we are a bit nutty for taking on pretty ambitious challenges (but that makes it all the more fun right?)

I'm a pretty shy in person so it's hard for me to get to know other Tri people around where I live.

My first group workout went well tonight. I'll write something about it in my training blog tomorrow.

Rest day tomorrow! Might do some light walking but not too much. Also have The monthly Tri-Club meeting I'm going to go to. Might as well.

Morning ladies and Scott.  Off to an early meeting so no Crossfit or run this morning.  Will get them in tonight.  This group has been good for me too.  I can't wait to meet as many of you as I can in person.  Kate, I know I will meet in March.  I might be going to Chicago in April (although it will be a pretty short stay) so I might get to meet Debb.  Not sure about the other places.  You all will just have to come out here for a race or two.

Happy training everyone.

Good morning All:  I am actually up this week to 229.6.  I am hoping a lot of it has to do with the salty garbage food I have had to eat the last two days.  I actually have my wife planning on training for a 5k.

I noticed something bad this weekend and again at volleyball last night. My right leg is very week again. I was hoping the biking - running-volleyball would be enough to keep it in shape but I guess I need to add in the 3 or 4 days of lifting and strength training- even if it is just 20 minutes.

Hopefully the weather will start to change a little for the cold weather people.

The Trans Siberian Orchestra is performing Beethoven's Last Night, which I would DEARLY love to see, at the Chicago Theater on April 17.  They aren't coming any further west than Texas and since we would have to get on an airplane to see them (if we are going to do that), we figured that we would not worry about location and only go with the date that was most convenient.  April 17 works, plus Chuck spent his teen years in the Chicago area and would love to show me what he remembers from that time.  So, we are seriously talking about going.  The tickets aren't bought and I don't have confidence in anything ever happening until the tickets are in hand.  So, we will see.  But I really, really, really want to see Beethoven's Last Night.

Hey gang.  I went for my first swim since my bike accident.  PAINFUL!  This is going to be an interesting 8 weeks until the HIM.

Do you just do freestyle?  Is it painful with all strokes?  Maybe you can do a lot of kicking, mixed in with swimming, until your shoulder is ready.  You don't want to lose your swim fitness, but you also don't want to overdo it.

So the general tri-state area is freaking out about the impending snow coming today into tomorrow. Predictions have ranged from 12-18 inches all the way up to 26-33 inches of snow. Grocery stores have been NUTS since Wednesday night. I'm at work and the building is closing at 1pm so I'm out of here at 12:30. Going to try to make a run to Home Depot to pick up a new drill. If I'm going to be snowed in for a couple of days I'm determined to put up shelves and organize my craft room. Along with shovel snow, shovel a path for my dogs to move around and relax!!!

Kate - make sure you're stretching (gently) so you still have your full range of motion in your shoulders.

Kir - Enjoy your indoor workouts! Shoveling is good calorie burn too. Craft room? Nice. My studio/craft/art area is miserable and cold in the unfinished basement. So what kind of stuff do you do besides the computer/graphic arts stuff? I'm a dabbler. Metalworking, glass fusing, bookbinding, assemblage, collage, etc etc etc. Although I have to admit I've been a total slacker lately. I haven't felt so creative lately.

Soooo... my swim this morning went well. Somehow I managed to cut my stroke count way down. I don't know if its a number a can hold as we were just doing drills, but I got it down to 22. Before I was like 27 on a good day and 32 on a bad day. Miserable I know. I felt very comfortable with the atmosphere and our swim coach too. He seems good. Our lanes were a little crowded with 4 in each, but other then that no complaints. They are going to test/video tape us every 4-8 weeks or so (not yet though)

Scott, Leah, Keel, Lisa, Queen - Hows the week treating you?

Howdy folx,

Just finished a 7 mile run in the glorious sunshine, 53 degrees! Fantastic fun run!
Does anyone have any recommendations for running fuel belts that they've used and liked?
Shoving a h20 bottle down the back of my running tights works okay, but there has to be more comfortable option

Good luck for those of you racing!
My first isn't until April - half marathon if i'm ready!

And, have fun in the snow for those that get it - hopefully you're fully stocked and ready.

I'm doing a half marathon on Sunday.  I have never used a pacer or pace group and have trained with 5 minute run/1 minute walk system.  The race will be having pace groups.  I really want to finish in 2:30 or better (to beat whatever Kate's HM time was last month - ha ha ha ).  I am thinking about trying out the pace group.

Has anyone ever raced with a pace group and how did you like it, how well did it work for you, etc.?  I am just wondering how my 5/1 system (should I decide to use it during the race) would work in a pace group situation.

In my first half marathon I had a pace leader for a portion of the race.  I caught up to his group about 4 miles in and stayed with them for about 5 miles.  He planned on picking up the pace around 9 miles and it was more than I was trained to.

Likes...the group was a fun diversion....It kept my pace up in those middle miles when you can easily start to drag.

Dislike....you need to hang on to your pace leader when he turns up the speed!  I had hoped for 2:10-2:15 for that race, got 2:17;11.

I wound up running most of that race with a group of women who wore zebra print run skirts and pink tops...I have pictures in that RR of the group.

I have a fuel belt helium 4 bottle. I usually use it with only 2 bottles in the front. The 2 bottle version has the bottle holders in the back. There is a new model coming out this year that is adjustable, the older models are sized. It also has removable pockets, I have a small and large pocket for it.

Hey gang.  I'm back.  I had a super funky day yesterday after my painful swim.  I totally freaked out.  It was much more then sore muscles from not swimming.  It was one of those painful feelings like something is not right.  It hurt the rest of the day but I wasn't as sore as I thought I would be the next day.  I'm better today and know I can work through it.

Sunday I'm going to do a long ride with climbs.  I'm hoping for a 50 mile ride.  Tomorrow I have an all day scrapbook event.  I hope to run before I go.  I'm looking forward to girl time.

Good luck racers!!  I'm sure you will do great.

Leah - I have never run with a pace group but I usually look out for them to see how I am doing on time.

Talk to you all soon.  Kate

PS - I'm officially addicted to facebook scrabble.  LOVE IT!!  That might be why you haven't seen me around.

I'm going nuts.  I was trying to find the post where Lisa was talking about her new scale.  I think it was Lisa.  Who else would have a scale that connects to the internet.  I have ready many, many of our old posts and I can't find it.  We want to get a new scale and I wanted to look at that one.  Help me, please.

One of the benefits of looking at old posts was being reminded of things,  For instance, several of you joined mentor groups.  Tells us how that is going for you.

Also, someone had just gotten a new book and was going to report back about it.  If you are that person (I already forgot who it was and the name of the book - that's what happens when you reread lots of old posts semi-randomly), tell us about the book.

OK.  The scale was a Withings.  I've got that much figured out.  Now that you have had the scale for a while, how do you like it?

Yes, I'm enjoying my withings scale. I've lost 4 lbs. since I got it. I also got a tanita ironman scale that gives more info but I like the withings more.
