A day off work today to go to the school concert, my presence is required at the lunchtime and evening performances!  Yikes!  Not enough wine in the world my friends!

So did I get to sleep in - er no, was up at 5.45am to do 45mins on the drainer - loved it, every second song cranked up a gear.  Sweating by the end and proud of myself! - that's a rarity!

I then drove to a friend for coffee, she makes the best in Melbourne!  Then home and decided to rearrange Artemis' bedroom furniture, it was cramped and messy, now it's beautiful she'll be so happy!

Mmmm a day off technically is always harder work that work itself.  Darn it.

I cannot believe I'm doing a HM on Sunday - what was I thinking!

Days off can be exhausting! You will do a great job at your half this weekend. As someone told me a couple weeks ago, the hay is in the barn.

Thanks!  I just have to remember it's part of my training not a race - the city2surf I went a bit too hard, I definitely raced it.  Forecast for Sunday - rain and 12 degrees, brrrr.  Lucky I have a new long sleeved pink top to wear!

Have fun with the half! Such a great distance. Where is it at?

Two concert performances sat through.  The evening one my girl had a solo singing part and she brought the house down - a star is born!  Watch out Adele!

It was nice to catch up with other parents and neighbours, great community spirit at our school.  Love it.

A late night for the little ones - 10pm, will take her late to school tomorrow and be late for work - oh well!  The boss is away....

She is a truly amazing girl. Amazing piglet parents, so many amazing gifts that she works hard to develop.

aw shucks thanks!  We do our best with her and we don't have grandparents etc to help so when she turns out stuff like this and being selected as a high achiever we feel we are doing a good job.  Now when she hits those teenage years I suspect I shall eat my words but for now let's enjoy it!

Jo and others:

There's a discussion on SlowTwitch that I've been following about menopause and athletes. Menopause discussion On the second page, there is a link to a Fact Sheet put out by Sports Medicine Australia regarding menopause and sport.

It's just nice to know that we're not alone.

ETA: How ironic. As I'm reading the fact sheet, I get a hot flash. Joy.

I can cope with it all except the emotional downward spiral I get into, like I'm so disappointed with myself with life etc - but wine and a good movie/book seem to be the cure as well as lots of training!  Will give this a read though!

It's an out and back about 6km from home and it's along the beachtrack which forms part of the marathon for IM.  It's a great run well supported and the track is lovely in any weather - love looking at the ocean.  Some undulating hills but nothing like Sydney!  I plan to Galloway 2:1 run walk the whole thing.

You will all be happy to know I am going bike helmet shopping. In fact, I SHOULD be dress shopping for a wedding I'm going to but that will have to wait. Priorities!

No strawberry milkshakes this time!

Good Salty.  Good girl.

Oh, I almost forgot I have some Masters Swim newb questions for ya'll. (I hope this doesn't come across as a 'how to count laps' question).  At the practice tomorrow we will not have a coach on deck so I am assuming that it is going to be a set written on the white board.  How does a specific send off time work if you are circle swimming in a lane? Do the lane-mates start every 5 seconds or so? Do I keep my own time?

I suppose before this can work I need to figure out which lane I belong in.  Didn't determine this on Wednesday as I just split a lane with the other newb (who, btw, was having trouble counting laps Wink)

Thoughts?

The lane I swim in generally has 2 swimmers who are faster than me.  We just all go at our own pace.  So, for instance, we did a set of 12x100 the other day.  The others were doing theirs at 1:55 with 10s rest, I did mine at 2:05 with 10 s rest.  On occasion, I took a few seconds longer rest to allow them to swim through, but it generally works itself out.  If I feel like I am really holding someone up, I will stop at the wall and let them pass, but more often than not, it just pushes me a little harder Laughing

Do you do all of your swims with the masters group?

Two out of generally 3 swims per week.  I will likely start going 3x week with the group come Sept.  Why do you ask?

Missed loads of stuff. not sure if i will catch up, but what the hey.

Two and a half days to my first oly. eeeeeeeek.

Luckily got my son doing it with me. Talk about the blind leading the blind.

I've done a sprint and occasionally trained, he's never done a tri but is very gym fit and is only 20 yrs old. (and looks like Bradley Wiggins)

Stop it Yanti, settle back on your bicycle seat.

And put some knickers on.

Can't wait to put up my first Oly RR.

BTW, i have pre registered for the Outlaw IM distance Tri, July 2013. Not that i think i am overdoing it or anything.

It's only a pre register. not the actual thing, so i can still chicken out.

Thanks for all the inspires.

Been a bit out the loop, but still here in spirit. hope you are all reaching your targets.

Life a little unpredictable here in the froggy household. wife now out of her job, having served her notice.

Unfortunately she is dealing with some mental health issues of her own, ( ironic when she is a mental health nurse with a psychology degree). Things must be wierd when i am the family anchor!?!

Jeeps. I wasn't cut out to be a grown up. i'm only 47.

I'm not fricken anything.         i think???

Maybe you're a chog as opposed to a fricken.

Sorry your mrs has some issues - I sympathise, my DH is going through bad times with me.  It's pre-menopause cr*p but I am a basket case, crying sobbing, very down and depressed a lot!  It's normal!  I'm getting mine sorted with a great GP but it's trial and error with dosage, I'm nearly there I think, this last lot I've been a little less volatile!

IM Distance!  go for it.  it's 31 weeks til my first (and only ) IM and full Fink training starts at 30 weeks.  One more week of bumbling through 8 or 9 hours a week then crank it up and start with some real training structure.  I'm quite excited. - which by the way is another menopausal issue, lack of motivation!  Jeez it's never ending!

Good luck with the Olympic - you'll love it once it's done!  Can't wait to read your RR and don't forget to record a PB!

OK, manatees, weird question because I am in a weird situation that I never thought I would be in.  I am, largely due to my multitude of vacation and travel days without a bike in the month of August, am a mere 1.47 miles difference between my biking distance and running distance for the month.  I have a sprint tri on Sunday.  I ran 2.5 miles today.  There is this sick, twisted part of me that wants to, even if it is only for about 2 days, have more running time than biking time.  Dare I run again tomorrow?  Or should I be good and not push it?  I do want to have a respectable performance at my tri because my sister may actually be there, or will at very least be wondering about my results since I am staying at her house the night before.

I'm 47 too and still wondering what to do with my life!!!

Mel I can't imagine that biking/or not in the next couple days is gonna make too much difference either way. Maybe do a little spinning to get the leg muscles going again but a training ride probably isn't going to help by Sunday. I say run if that is your bliss.
