Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Still no news of any type...but I did do a run and some strength training today. I also tried my hand at spear throwing (a spear throw is one of the 'obstacles' at Spartan Race). I have a spear I made, and threw it.....by the way, using a small hay bale against a patch of drywall inside the garage is probably not the most ideal target set up.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi team I've missed you all As I was reading through the last 8 or so pages I saw example after example of Manatees helping, encouraging, lifting up, supporting and advising eachother. Seriously, HOW COOL?! Thank you everyone! I also noticed that there are some peeps feeling under the weather - Hope that turns around quick for you guys. Rest up! Reece, fast man, waiting for your RR!! I was all set to begin training again this past weekend but it was the duck season opener. My husband has been suporting me in my training ALL YEAR and now it's my turn to support his passion. I don't hunt, but I do go along to help with the setup and to photograph. So, here's a link to my blog with a quick write up on our day and some fun photos of him and my pup - if you've got time, check it out - they're cute. www.tracyolsonphoto.com/blog Back to traing tomorrow with a bike ride with a friend. And I'm considering crossfit. I start officially training for crosscountry ski season late Oct/early Nov, but in the interm and maybe even continuing into the early ski season I'm thinking of 1-2 days per week of Crossfit. Has anyone done it? Any thoughts? I've been told to not go balls to the walls for risk of injury - so I wasn't planning on going all out nuts, but just though it would be something new and fun for a few months... ??? Hope everyone is having a great week! Salt - thinking of you. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tracy, your photography takes my breath away. Those two 'posed' shots of your hubby and pup are amazing, as is the B/W of Fletcher. And how cool, a toller that actually tolls! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I hope this is just a passing thing, but I am not at 100% right now. I have some sort of intestinal issue, felt like I might pass out at work today. Feeling somewhat better at the moment, but still some nausea... I'm hoping it's just something I ate disagreed with me. I had planned on running km 5-15 of the HM route tonight, but will be resting on the couch and drinking lots of fluids... Yanti and Jo, I hope you are both feeling better. Wait, maybe I should hope that Yanti gets better but doesn't feel better so that she will actually rest!!! Kate, the spear chuckin' sounds fun, I was a javelin thrower in HS. Sounds like a good stress reliever Edited by bcraht 2012-09-25 9:47 PM |

I've not done it before, so I can't speak to that, but I signed up for a spin class and a CardioABS class for some of the same reasons you are considering Crossfit. I just felt like I needed to mix things up a bit. I'm enjoying the time with other ladies. As I've mentioned before (because I complain about it to anyone who will listen) I live and work primarily with men. I don't have many (read, "any") women friends. :-( |

I'm okay if I'm not moving, but once I get up and try to do something, it hits me hard. I think we're on the mend though, so if it's the same thing, expect a bit of the sniffles to hit you in two days. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tracy!! Those pictures are outstanding. I love the light. And that pup is adorable. Tears came to my eyes when I realized he is also wearing camo. That is just too cute. And his eyes! You can see that he loves opening day as much as the two of you. And he is all business in the water bringing that duck in. Adorable. |

Reminds me of the old joke about Shakespeare's Stamp ... hahaha ... great spear and the picture of the poor speared drywall is very funny. |

I noticed a couple of things: 1. your husband is really cute; 2. your dog is really cute; and 3. your husband and dog are really intense. Also, in one shot it looks like your dog is standing on his hind legs checking out the horizon - that is cool!

WOW great pictures.
Alot of the department swears by crossfit but with one caveat. Don't get super caught up in doing the workouts for time in so much that you aren't using proper form. I've seen a few officers injure themselves by trying to go too fast and using bad form on some of the workouts. |

The good thing is, having 11 brothers and sisters, sh*t gets done, and quick. So, when her husband is ready, it'll get done. They were together for almost 50 years (since they were 14!!!!) So he's going to need some time. Was glad I was able to make it over and be with everyone. It's always a tough call, knowing exactly what to do or how to be there for someone. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I am feeling fine today. I made myself homemade chicken and rice soup for dinner last night and that helped settle my tummy. This morning I had a yardage PR at Masters swim--2950m! AND I kept up with a Kona Qualifier (she would kick my A$$ on the road, bike or run!) AND I let the lane for 125m. Out of almost 3km. But still, I did lead for awhile ![]() |

Oh man, so do you compete XC skiing? I tried it for the first time last year and LOVED it. Well, until I tried to go downhill not realizing XC skis don't have edges like downhill skis ... long story. Anyway my FIL/MIL did a really cool endurance XC competition in Canada and I would like to maybe do it with them. It's a perfect combination of running and ice skating. As far as crossfit goes, I have a lot of friends who do it. They have experienced some pretty serious gains in fitness and also some pretty serious injury (certainly not all of them.) Overall, I would say it's a little more geared towards the 'bulking up' crowd with lots of emphasis on compound lifting and not all that much endurance. I think it all depends on what you are looking to get out of it. If it's for S/B/R or XC skiing, I'd say nothing is going to help you more than doing more S/B/R XC but if it's for overall fitness, I'd say it's a great option. It's certainly not for everybody. |

I'm about halfway through and am really enjoying it. I sometimes thought I was a little crazy for all the parallels between life and running that I saw and this book gives me a little validation Good reminder. Not like I'll be doing anything (certainly SHOULD not be doing anything) the next couple weeks ... I realized I got my training plan totally wrong ... it's supposed to be three weeks build, one pull back. I've been doing one week build, three pull back! I am really dreading this surgery tomorrow. I just said that, didn't I? Then again I need this ridiculousness over with; this infection has really brought me to my knees. Not that that's a bad place for a toothless girl to be, I suppose. For others, anyway. |
