I think I know one. Wow we have had 2 crashes this week in our group.... Very impressive... A little retail therapy last week... Bought a new bike... Should be coming by the end of the week..... Our team, and my bike....
I also know of a good home that doesn't require shipping or customs Nice new bike BTW!!!

It may be in a glass case for the winter months... But IT WILL GET RIDDEN... As far as monthly payments... I don't buy if I have to make payments... Same goes for cars. Try to avoid ccards all together... But yes I do have a mortgage... THAT IS ENOUGH!!!!! |

Bummed about my leg, the skin feels all odd like it is a bit too small for my leg right now. LOL, pretty much just moping around the house all weekend. I did get on the trainer and ride a whopping 2 miles, better than nothing I suppose. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hey guys. I AM SAVAGE!!! I don't know where to start. That was the hardest thing I have ever done and close to the most rewarding! I'll write a full race report tomorrow but I wanted to check in and let you know I survived. Actually I did better than survive. I am damn proud of myself. Not only was that my frist Olympic, but that was a HARD course. And I'm not saying that to make my times look better. The race director said the course was designed to test your climbing abilities (both ride and run) and THATS NO JOKE!! We drove the bike course the day before and I was completely syked out. I just kept looking at this course and thinking, " I am not ready for this. I can't climb this." The bike was 2050 ft of climbing and the run was 1000 ft. At the pre-race meeting the course designer spoke about how this course was designed to test your climbing abilities, not your descents. And was he ever serious. As you came out of transition this was the first thing you saw........ (see photo below). Then everytime you climbed a hill you couldn't get any speed from the descent because they were all 90 degree to 120degree switchbacks. There were volunteers at the top of every climb telling people to slow down. I've never gone down a hill using my full breaks and STILL accelerated! Then once you reached the bottom it was turn a corner and go right back up. And you know the best part, I did it in 1:41minutes!!!! At home I can do 25 miles in 1:20 so when I drove the course the day before I was thinking 2+ hours easily. There was one hill that I didn't even attempt. It also had a sign labeling its steepness and length - CAT 1, 10% climb, 0.70miles! Every 10 feet they had posted signs of jokes and encouragement. I'm sure I made better time walking that thing thatI ever would have climbing it. And even that took me 7 minutes. The run was hard. There were a series of steep hills at the beginning, all rolling hills throughout the middle, and one NASTY one at mile 5. It was a quarter mile trail run up a hill with a 9% grade to a mountain fire station. I was doing a run/walk combo to this point but after that hill I had nothing left. I got a horrible cramp in my diaphragm that wouldn't go away. I sucked it up for the remaining mile and crossed the finish line straight into my husband's arm. Then the tears came, but more for the emotions than the pain. I think I was well prepared for this. My run can improve lots but I felt great out there and really good the next day. Oh, and by the way, here are my times... swim 41:11 (but my watch said 38minutes when I left the water. I like that better ) bike 1:41:44 run 1:31 (not so good but oh well) Thanks for all the encouragement and advise guys! Full race report and photos coming tomorrow!!!

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Woot nice Oly and ugg. Does your hubby call you Mrs. Savage... tmi.. nm. The down hills with the switchbacks would be scarry for me, I have been anxious about sharp turns at the bottom of hills since I totaled my bike on one. Oh Steve, now that I am pretty much on the doorstep of my first HIM, I have a question about the bike. How much do you back off on the speed to save yourself for the run. Like if I typically ride at around 18 mph for a 60 mile ride should I drop down to 16-17 mph so I have something left for the run? I'm not sure how much to hold up on the bike. Oddly enough my running has been getting a touch better this past week, probably because I have been getting sufficient rest, go figure. The other challenge is that the temp will be 95 + / - F and probably a 10 mph ish wind. Any thoughts welcome. |

Expert 856 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I don't have much advice on the effort you should do on the bike, but what I will say is to be sure you stay hydrated. I've ridden there in those temps (on the same course you're riding), and you don't feel yourself sweating as much because it evaporates quickly, but you can become very parched very fast. So keep up the fluids, before and throughout the whole race, and don't wait until you think you need a drink. And have fun and enjoy the scenery! |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL WAY TO GO TRACY... HOWEVER, NOT SURPRISED AT ALL! Your such a studette...
Baowolf... That is a tough question to answer... So many factors play into the day... Weather, Course, Your feelings, etc.... This is the biggest mistake that people make... Go TOO HARD, or feel like they had extra in the tank and could have gone harder.... In a 1/2 Iron or longer I like to really pay attention to my Heart Rate. I usually stay in zone 2 or 3. I let this dictate my pace. Again I don't think you can base off maintain a "16 mph pace" or "18 mph." There are so many factors... People on the course, stopping at lights, non drafting, etc.... Here is a great article regarding "PACING" about it helps a little... And yes stay very HYDRATED, and TAKE SALT TABLETS (Thermolytes is my brand of choice, but also, edurolytes, salt stick pills, etc...) Drinking water they whole day won't work. Be sure to have some sort of Nutrition plan in place... IE: CALORIES! |

I finished it and it is public. I had a busy day at work yesterday and wasn't able to complete it, but it's done now. I was hoping my mother - in - law would have sent the photos by now, but no such luck. I post those later. ENJOY! http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=133777 |

That distance will certainly be a challenge, but also a treat to run a flat course and not have to bust my hump before the running section. I highly recommend doing SavageMan next year. I'm sure we'll be back and if you have any desire it is worth it. They ran a great race. It is a beautiful part of the country and the entire town gets behind the event. There were people launching their boats the day before asking me if I was doing the race the next day and, clearly impressed, were wishing me good luck. In a sick, self abusive way, it is good times! |

I know your kind of suffering will be way more than mine was. Keep yourself hydrated and pace yourself. It'll be a long day out there and think how much worse you'll feel if you DNF. Salt, water, sunscreen and HAVE FUN. I'm confident you've trained enough so have a great time. Good luck. |
