BOSTON, BABY!!!!

I'm excited beyond words....so I'll try to come down off of my high, and overcome the pain in every tendon, muscle, ligament and joint that I own (that just MAY overcome childbirth x 3)  to let y'all know that I BEAT 4 hours!!!  (which does beat my children's appearance times!)  4:00.00 is the cut for old ladies, and I did 3:59:45.  Wind, Rain, Cold....and hopefully a picture may come out!!  My garmin bailed at the start, so until I actually stopped at mile 5 and waited for it to come on, I was running blind.

I'll write more tomorrow, but it looks like I was 16/104 in my age group!  Hubby did it in 3:35, which unfortunately isn't his Boston cut at 3:30, BUT does beat his Ironman split of 4:15 and we probably aren't going anyway.  It's just the thrill, and he is being a trooper on my behalf ....including the 2 hour drive home with a stop at a winery!

LindaCool

(took the sunglasses, left them in the bag, got them shattered by a throw at some point - dang.  Cry

So cool .. I'm so excited for you!! Hooray!! I hope you enjoy your wine tasting.

Busy weekend for me training wise...

Saturday two hour trainer ride or 40-50 outside followed by 2 mile run-brick!

Sunday 7 mile run and later or right after 40 min or 12 mile ride.

I'll probably get in an extra swim with Kevin and the girls.

I bought a new saddle Selle SMP Glider today...$270...ouch...can try it out for couple weeks to see how it works..hope to get it on before tomorrow but 2 hours may be to long for a new saddle. Same saddle brand as I have but a little narrower 136 mm vs 148mm for SMP Pro saddle . Selle SMP brand has nice large cut out so nothing gets squished and solved many problems but caused some others.

My tri coach wants me to start using my orthotics again so I needed neutral running shoes and ordered some Men's  mizuno wave rider 12s as I have wide feet.

Looks like a cool saddle.  Hope it was comfy

Middle of the night question that's been floating around our neighborhood.  If you are married (or engaged) do you train and/or race with your wedding/engagement ring on?  If not, why not?  Any thoughts?  This has been a recent (big) topic of conversation on the pool deck, and I thought I'd throw it out nationally, and internationally, and to a great range of people!   I'd love to hear your thoughts!

LindaCool

I train w/ my rings - wedding, engagement and my grandmother's ring - for races I take them off (when I remember).

It is still snowing.  Life here in VA will be at a standstill for the next week, unless it melts as fast as it came!  So far about 6 inches....(laugh all you guys from Mass and Canada, VA comes to a SCREECHING HALT over a miniscule snow fall)

Hey gang,

Most of us probably don't pay enough attention to cleaning up the bikes and maintaining them properly.  There's a new article posted on the main site page that goes over how to clean/degrease and lube the chain.  Well worth it--it's in video form so you see how the tools/products are applied.  Even if you know that you are supposed to do it and how (okay KathyG is probably the one person I know of here who DOESN'T need this)  It's worth the time!

Yes, I'm bored.  My oldest daughter (okay was just 2 at the time) paced  back and forth in the driveway one evening while I was getting the younger one in the crib (OMG that was 13 years ago!)  in her Pooh bear pj's sying "nuffing to do" with her arms crossed behind her back....Family joke now but I felt that way all say.

Haha!  That's so funny you say that, Linda.  I had to ditch one of my bikes outside the office on Friday (18-35mph gusts in Boston meant I wasn't going to ride home!) and after two days of snow, all I've been thinking is how I'm going to need to figure out how to clean the drive train since my chain's been sticky since the last ride in the rain, and I'm sure it's now going to be AWFUL to shift after sitting in the snow for two days!

Thanks for pointing out the video, Judi!  This is stuff I really need to pay more attention to.  I just got a bike stand, too, so it should be a little easier to clean it in my little apartment after I let the poor thing dry out for a day or so.

It's going to be so gross trying to figure out how to get it home tomorrow- blah.

Look at some u tube videos...

Key is to run with feet above water then if you can dolphin dive then stand and do it again a couple times...over the waves.

x2

If there are larger breaking waves when you get out further swim under them rather than over them, you're likely to get tossed that way.

Yeah that is sweet advice.  I always seed myself too far back and then I am fighting to get by poeple.  Especially in a swim only race, because you might find someone you can draft off of and just go.  The only thing is, careful when you run in, you can sprain your ankle or knee fairly easy, or at least that is my experience.  Just practice running in slowly and build your speed up, I mean it isnt hard just practice first.

Do you prefer large or small races and why?
