meherczeg - 2009-05-06 2:46 PMtan my brain hurts, i hate work.  should i go to grad school next year?
Depends on what it's for I guess. I'd love to go back to school, just can't make it happen financially. I always tell people to hide in the world of academia as long as possible.

chemical engineering.  polymers/fluids.  i would go for free, more than likely, and receive a stipend.  i would have to figure out to do with my house is all...

Free school is nice. My employer paid for my MBA - I wouldn't have done it otherwise.
Most people don't have an opportunity like that..... especially in today's economy. A lot of employers are discontinuing tuition assistance programs due to financial problems.

yeah PPK does a free MBA but you have to agree to work here 5 years after your done and do it part time at william and mary.  not worth it to me.  i would want to go to school full-time and write a thesis and everything.  engineering is USUALLY free grad school.

well sure she can stay there and cover the mortgage, i can't very well get a master's here in newport news.  i'm thinking berkeley.

Besides, what fun would that be if Meh weren't there?

Berkeley is a cool little town - though you'd probably be hard-pressed to find a decent church scene. It's all a bunch of super-liberal hippies. But lots of cute restaurants and very few chain restaurants at that.

Agreed.  You shouldn't have to pay for a full-time grad degree in science.  You can get a lot of support working as a research assistant or teaching assistant.  I get tuition + stipend support, although in Biology that's only available as a PhD student.

I am happy being in grad school.  But, it is a ton of work.  I don't encourage people to go if they don't want to do a ton of stuff or if they don't know what they will do with it when they are done.

a MSChE would get me a sweet R&D job at pretty much any petroleum or chem company outside of the pharm world, but i'd probably love it so much i'd stay for the phd and just do research and teach forever.

Also along those lines, you could be a medical examiner, or a grave digger, or maybe an overnight radio person.  OR you could be a customer service person, I mean, every time I've had to deal with customer service with pretty much any company and location, I just stood in line for an hour, just to have someone tell me that they couldn't help me.

True. Yeah, I don't think i could do church in the South. But of course, if I moved back to Boston, everyone is Catholic, and that's not happening either.

i have spent a little time in southern baptist, attending a southern baptist church 2 years ago is actually what inspired me to come back to church.

i have spent a lot of time around ridiculous catholics, like my nana who doesn't trust my church cause its based on something in the BOOK OF ACTS and she doesn't read the bible.  sigh.

although southern baptist is also crazy, i know that.
