New user 11 Owensboro | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread za29 - 2010-08-13 12:14 PM The Athlete Guide has been posted! It's official, we will be using the new bridge: http://www.ironmanlouisville.com/10LVAthGuide.pdf Haven't read the whole thing yet to see if there's any other significant changes. You sure? The written directions on page 13 say to veer right on wolf pen branch road. whereas the map and directions on page 16 don't mention it. I would be willing to bet the written directions are correct and the picture ones are reused from previous years. |

Member 19 Jeffersonville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread hrliles - 2010-08-12 9:00 PM Ok, so what motivated you to do Louisville. What will motivate you during the race. What makes you take that one extra step. I'll start. Nothing has ever come easy. My mom and dad both having heart attacks and diabieties. I got fat and saw a picture of me holding my daughter on the beach. I cried. I said no more, not this day! I said I will do the biggest baddest MF there is known to man! I will be in shape and I will be a role model to my 3 babies. In the last 18 months I went from scratch to 15 triathlons, 3 being HIM, 3 1/2 Mary's and 26.2. I like what I see now and I am not even close to being done! And now this. I am not even close to knowing what I have got myself into but I know this, I will finish and when I need motivation I will look at pictures of my babies and that picture of me on the beach. Oh yeah, Losing a great banking job last year, moving 2 states away from our families, to get a new one 12 months later, still training. Need more motivation....My wife getting on a plane for the first time after being stuck in Amsterdam that week of and losing her sister on Flight 93 on 9/11. She hasn't been on a plane since I picked her up that Friday September 14, 2001 at Dulles. She quite her job at United. But for me, so I don't have to drive 13 hours there, do an Ironman, and drive 13 back, she is getting on a plane. You damn right I will finish this race. Motivation you say! What will motivate you? If you care to share. Geez man, thanks for sharing, that is rather moving! I can't touch that, I just want to get in good shape :-) I've always enjoyed running but never did so with much purpose until one day I watched this video called "by the time you finish watching this video, you'll want to run a marathon." And it made me want to run a marathon. And after the marathon I wanted to do more, and since I live near Louisville I had heard about this Ironman race they do each year. So I went out & bought a bike & started riding to make sure it was something I enjoyed, then signed up. Didn't really realize what I was getting myself into but they won't refund my $550 so why not? |

Member 19 Jeffersonville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread elcaminobill - 2010-08-13 7:22 AM I am in for the get together wherever it is, just keep us When I married my wife 28 1/2 years ago, I looked at her dad and said I will never look like that. Well guess what. January of 09, I got out of the shower and there my father-in-law was, staring right at me from the bathroom mirror. I started working out, lost 45 pounds, completed 1/2 marys, full marys, sprint tris, half ironmans and now this monster, that I will complete. I teach Sunday School (young married adults) and there is a lesson being formed in the whole workout thing. When I started working out, I was alone, now my son (20 years old) is traing for his first sprint tri, my daughter (25) and married to a soldier, is working out and will attempt her first mary in December with her husband when he returns from Iraq (2nd trip), and my wife has changed her life style as well. Now, men, you are going to be the spiritual, physical, emotional leader of your family whether you want to or not, the question is, which direction are you going to lead. Just my 2 cents. Great story. I myself have lost 45-50 pounds as well since I first started my marathon training last year. But like you said, the absolute best part is that I'm actually inspiring others to do the same. My wife is doing her first tri this weekend with a friend of hers (it'll be her friend's first too). My brother's wife has also started running in large part due to being there when I did my marathon. When people see just a regular guy like me do something like this they realize they can too and it's great to know I am helping people improve themselves! |

Member 19 Jeffersonville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread turtlegirl - 2010-08-13 12:34 PM I'll add my reason, which seems silly, but here it is: the horseshoe medal. I had to sell my beloved ex-racehorse when I thought I was going to quit a job. It broke my heart, so I promised him I'd get a horseshoe tattoo one day in his honor. When I saw that the medal for IMKY was a horseshoe, well, that just seemed like a sign to do this race. So I'm doing it for my Snoot and all the other ex-racehorses that have touched my life. Haha that's awesome :-) As an animal lover I can totally relate! Good luck on race day! |

Member 18 Chantilly, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread OK. Big Problem. I wake up this morning getting ready for the last semi-long ride and see that everyone is talking about their race numbers. I check the IM website and find that I've been taken off the participant list (where I used to be listed as Robert Scott / M / 37 / KY) and in addition I'm not on the race number list. WTF!!!!????!!!! I've got a copy of my registration from Active.com as well as a receipt of payment from Active and my credit card company. I was on the list, I received my case of PB Perform, etc, etc. How do I suddenly get removed? Has anyone else had this problem? I've got an email into to folks at IM Louisville, but waiting until Monday is going to kill me. Perfect timing for a little added stress! |

Something obviously happens, as long as you can provide a receipt everything will work out. This is the exact reason I saved my registration confirmation. |
