Michele - I've only worn the shorts once, and so far so good.  You never really know how they'll hold up until you've washed them at least 30 times  I haven't tried the top yet....need to get on that.

Larkin - Good luck today!!!  Hope you get the job if you want it!

Scott - I told my husband about your situation last night, and he agreed that you need to shoot for a due date after the race.  I mean, no one stands around you and fans you with palm fronds when it's your third pregnancy (maybe during the first).  Your wife will be tired in her third trimester anyway.  You can both fall asleep on the couch at 8

Do HIMs sell out as quickly as IMs?  My husband gave me the green light for Eagleman next June, and I think that one sells out quickly.  Am I wrong?  Do you register the day after the race?

Most HIMs don't sell out.

Except for IM, do you ever sign up early?  I'm sitting on the fence about early sign up's for my 2012 sprint, oly and 70.3 races.  Do you all procrastinate or is this just a guy and commitment thing?

I sign up the last day of "early bird" pricing generally.

I am the same way and think it is a guy thing   I am procastinating because I still have a couple of weeks for my oly to be on the cheaper side. I am trying to decide to do before or after my anniversary weekend.

Just out of curiousity, why did you chose Eagleman as your HIM? That is one I was considering as well.

The biggest reason is that we can turn it into a family vacation and stay out on the east coast after the race  It's been on the top of my list since I decided I wanted to try that distance.  It looks like a great, competitive race, and early June HIM is perfect for me.  It would be cool if we both signed up!

I generally sign up for my A races as soon as registration opens, IM brand or not.  I sign up for the B races after Christmas when I have the extra $.  Most of those are local anyway and don't sell out until spring.

Thanks for the well wishes on the job interview! It went well I think, so now it is just a waiting game.

I have a question for ya'll doing or have done HIM's. How long after you started training did you consider doing a HIM?

Eagleman sells out VERY quickly.  Usually the day registration opens (although Eagleman is one race where I have some pull if you don't get in).

I did a HIM about 3 months after I started training.  Not a super-smart decision, but do-able.

Umm wow! Yea my concern is the swim more than anything. Even though my master's swim coach said I could do it. Hmm something to think about....

Beach to Battleship is a good race.  The difficulty in doing simaltaneous marathon and HIM training is that its difficult to get in all the bike volume you need while preparing for the marathon.  Plus the marathon requires a decent amount of recovery time, no matter how "easy" you run it.

Yea after thinking about it that way that wouldn't be very smart Maybe Eagleman 2013 since that would be pretty close to where I live and then I can always try B2B next fall and maybe make it an A Race.

6 months after I started I thought about it.  It took someone convincing me I could do long course to finalize it in my mind though.

uhcoog - 2012-05-16 9:08 AM So is there any way to keep tabs on how full an Ironman event is?  I got the go ahead last night after a long talk for IMTX AS LONG AS there isn't a due date for May. So I figured I'd wait as long as possible to make sure.

Scott, congrats. Finally, the day has come for you. Good luck

I am still somewhat fearful of the HIM swim. But now that I have started swimming again, I am committing to 2 days a week (thats about the max I can fit in) but that should be enough I think.

I am still dealing with neck and back issues though. What's weird, is mostly the pain comes when sitting. To the point of a burning and painful feeling in the lower back, and an 8 out of 10 pain scale on the neck somedays.  Had the MRI on the neck a month back.  Bulging disc.  Had an MRI this morning on the back.  Will have those results tmrw. This accident from last fall really tweaked my body.

It's funny though, with running, no back pain just a little neck pain.  And biking, no neck pain, and just a little back pain.  But nothing compared to sitting at work. I find myself standing at my desk sometimes.  So I'll continue with PT for now.

Jeff - that just sucks that the car accident is still haunting you. I am sorry you are still in pain and it has derailed your training. I hope that you get the results of the MRI soon so you can get more specific treatment.

Hi guys,

Well my Zone 2 running lasted 8 days before I felt my calf start to play up... damn it! It's my own fault, I went from 2 weeks off to running every day (only short runs, but still every day) straight away. Should have taken a bit more time to build back to that. I'll have a few more days off and then try to get back into it.

Anyway, with NZ starting to feel the full wrath of winter I'm being pushed indoors on my bikes quite a bit now. But I'm not quite sure what my workouts should look like. My goal for now is base building (next A race is a HIM in December) So what would you guys recommend as some workouts. So far this week I've been doing some Zone 2 intervals (5min Z1, 20 min Z2 etc.) my trainer workouts should be about 60-90 minutes, to be done 2-3 times a week. (with a long ride outside in the rain on the weekend)

Cheers, Andy
