I had a nice run this morning, just enjoying the warm temperature and the approaching dawn. Pretty soon it will be light for my morning run but then the time change will take that away for another 4 weeks (boo!) The time change will allow me to start biking to work again and still get home before dark (yeah!)

Rolled my ankle a bit early in the run but it's ok.

I'm thinking about breaking my peachy streak and taking tomorrow as a rest day...or maybe, just take the morning off and get in some Pilates in the evening while my daughter is at dance and keep the streak alive!

Yes, stream of consciousness blogging!

well if you do the pilates......your peachy calendar will remain...just a darker square~

I say do it! hope your ankle is ok~

It is a beautiful day on the central coast of California...I just took a short walk on the beach...grabbed a cup of coffee...went out to see how big the pool is and how warm it was since it was supposed to be heated.......and very disappointed to report it is cold and a u shaped smaller pool...so no swimmy for me~ So, I have my weights for my arms and ankles and will instead head to the gym here at the hotel....then this afternoon my dh and I are planning on riding a few hours.....looks as though we will follow the coastal trail....not sure what that entails....just wanted you guys to know that I am thinking of you and am trying to FOCUS! haha

its HUMP DAY!..........go out and have a great rest of the week....and remember the word of the day/week/month is FOCUS!!!!! do better then me, ok???? ;0

Happy Thursday, gang! No kidlets today or tomorrow as it is professional development and we are sitting through a few workshops on assessment. Will definitely be wanting to move later. Looking forward to my track workout and a pre-run swim.

Hope you're all doing well- enjoying the peach, or walks on the beach, pilates and pedi's or whatever else is on your schedule for the day.

I enjoyed an extra hour of sleep this morning. I plan to do Pilates after work while my daughter is at dance. My ankle is fine. Hoping for a better swim tomorrow morning.

Happy Thursday all !

In a few minutes I am off for highlights and a pedi ! WOOHOO

Now, I took a good look at my training log and noticed an area I'd never payed attention to.  It's the part where it totals up what you have done "so many hours of swim, so many hours of bike etc".  I am horrified !  I feel like I exercise all the time, and in totals it's like 'only 6 hours of swimming".

Just a real jaw dropping moment I guess, I am just not putting in enough time. HOWEVER, I am limited to the time I can put in so I guess I am lucky I only want to do sprint tri's !

What time period are you tallying over: this month, last month, 2009, 2008? Worry more about quality than quantity. (I'm only at 8hrs of swimming for this year)

It's the total for 2009 that caught my eye.   I just figured I'd see all this time  piled up and I was just thrown to see so few hours.

Happy Thursday everyone! Hopefully the knees, ankles and illness are getting better.

I'm still here, just laying low. I'm playing racquetball today and tomorrow. I'll try to run outside this weekend if it's not icy.

Later,

Hey everyone!  I'm starting a four day weekend today -- very rare.  I plan to get lots of training in, but the weather just may not cooperate.    Keep your fingers crossed that the weather guessers are wrong and we see lots of Florida sunshine.

Happy Friday the 13th ........  I'm off to swim today, with the gal who laps me twice while I am swimming full out freestyle and she is doing that plus sidestroke........ ugh

ran for the first time on a treadmill, did it with encouragement from my friend who is a trainer and my buddy who met me there.  Glad that "first " is over.

I did 2100m swimming this morning, definitely better than my swim at the beginning of the week, but still not quite where it should be. I'm supposed to run and bike this weekend but I'm quite sure how it's gonna shake out around family obligations.

Julie, I know it's hard but try not to compare your swimming to others. Instead, compare it to your previous swim sessions and focus on the positive of your improvement. I just took a look at your last blog entry; just think of swimming through the chop from the other swimmers as great training for open water swimming.

One way to measure how your swimming is coming is to use a tool called swim golf. It might have been mentioned here before.

Essentially you count the strokes to go down and back and add them to total number of seconds. For instance, if it takes 45 strokes and 50 seconds, your score would be 95. It not only measures how fast you are, but also how efficient your stroke is.

i ran yesterday, i found that second mile on my watch, it was 15.something, i can't remember now, and my watch is in the bathroom. i need to get on that satelite thing and make sure i know where my mile marks are, cuz that just doesn't seem quite right.
anyway, i made bran muffins this morning, and i'm gonna eat, and drink my coffee, then i'm going to take pie pie out for a run, so it'll be a 4 mile kind of day for me. then i HAVE to get caught up on laundry today.

made some cookies last night for julee, but they didn't last the night. LOL so i'm making more--actually, i'll wait until sunday night to make them, then i can send them out first thing monday. LOL

Thank you for a new perspective !  I think that is a good idea, and thank you Scot for the golf suggestion.  I still have to count "one two three " then turn and breathe. So when I add stroke count I forget to count my breathing and then get all messed up ! lol

I appreciate the ideas and the encouragement !

Guilty. No excuses, not much training, either. I just realized that I can't go to my lunch swim because I have a lunch meeting today! My husband keeps telling me I have a "synchronization" problem with my various calendars (I keep 3 electronic and 2 paper calendars because the one I want is never on me when I want it). These are the things that prove him right, darn it! Well, I'll try to force myself to go after work, but I sure do hate swimming in the dark! At least no one can see my stubble in the dark, right?

Have a happy Valentine's day everyone - I'll be watching the Prologue of the Tour of California and drinking a glass of nice red wine with whatever dinner I decide to make for my valentines! After I do my bike ride, probably on the trainer, yech. Maybe I'll watch The Wedding Singer, too!

I'm shooting over to the logs now to throw some inspires around and get the gossip!

Hi all,

I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of our awesome group:

Susie / Offthegrid

I "met" Susie a while back on the Team Estrogen forums and then reconnected with her here on BT. She did her first triathlon in 2007 and has her sights set on an eventual Iron Man triathlon! Like many of us, weight loss is a challenge for her and she's especially looking for help with that.

I talked her into doing the Philly Women's Triathlon in July and am really looking forward to meeting her IRL!

Please give Susie a warm welcome.

Thanks, Nicole

Hola, everyone! Many thanks for welcoming me to the group, and I look forward to checking out the thread and getting to know everyone better. I'm a back-of-the-packer who truly loves swimming, biking and running, I'm just slow. I've lost a bunch of weight, but gotten "stuck" where I'm at and I'm trying to surround myself with support to lose 25 lbs. by late July. (I haven't decided ultimate goal yet.)

I'm just starting to work my way back to jogging after an injury, so I'm going to take that easy. I've also recently become interested in weight lifting, and I can't wait to see what the strength gains will mean for me when I hit the road.

Also can't wait for the Philly women's tri! Actually, can't wait for spring, for that matter. This winter has felt long.

A bit more about me: I'm 29 (for real, at least for a little bit longer) and from eastern Pennsylvania. Only kid is an 18-month-old crazy yellow Labrador. I am married but sorta separated. Things are actually making a dramatic improvement on that front. He in the past has not been supportive of me exercising but that has also greatly improved.

Strengths: Enjoy all three sports. Biking is my best. I have strong legs - I sometimes lift twice as much weight as some guys at the gym. I can get really gung-ho and tend to be very determined to do something when I put my mind to it.

Weaknesses: Biggest is a general lack of confidence and insecurity. Running - I've sustained a couple of injuries all related to calf/Achilles/plantar fascia. I'm a very slow swimmer, but as long as I can make a race cutoff I'll be happy. Also, I've got a lot of weight to haul up hills.

I sometimes need a swift kick in the behind, but please do it compassionately.

Also, I'm a writer, so I tend to write a lot. I'll let you decide if that's a strength or weakness.

Happy Friday the 13th ........  I'm off to swim today, with the gal who laps me twice while I am swimming full out freestyle and she is doing that plus sidestroke........ ugh

One of my happiest moments in swimming was when the 68-year-old could no longer lap me.
