Champion 10742 Ames, IA | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls MDHillSlug - 2009-04-12 1:30 PM Happy Easter! I don't do easter so today was my brick day. The plan was a 22 mile loop followed by a 3.2 mile run. The wind was strong today so I took out the Allez instead of the tri bike, but I tried out the race wheels on it. My ride started directly into the wind and proved to be too much for me so I turned the ride into an 18 mile out and back; the back was 5-6mph faster! The run felt very hard. I definitely want to get in at least one more brick before my first tri. Sounds like a tough brick. Way to get it done! *impressed toppage* Edited by disturbed275 2009-04-12 6:32 PM |

Champion 10742 Ames, IA | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls rlejeune - 2009-04-12 2:28 PM Earlier I was reading a post about someone who tried to ride in aero for the first time and it gave me the idea that I should get the Trek out for my first ever ride in Aero Besides the fact that the wind is gusting at like 30 mph and that this aero frame doesn't like a cross wind much I had a blast. And I am really happy to be able to say that I was really confident in aero. Except when turning, I will have to practice that a little bit still But this bike is damn fast ... I can't wait to really try it out. I might take her for my long ride tomorrow Yea for aero!! It's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Glad you were able to get comfortable and enjoy the ride |

Someday, I will get to ride my bike with no wind. But it will probably be like a 100 degrees. |

Felt more like a breeze after dealing with way worse this spring |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls blujay65 - 2009-04-12 7:30 AM Hey Folks! I am back from my trip to NOLA and the 10K race. It was huge, over 17 thousand runners, probably too huge for my tastes. I have posted a race report. Trying to negotiate around so many slow walkers and runners is hard. I need to rethink my strategy for a race like this. Pretty early on I realized this would not be a race to set and benchmarks for my 10K time, after that it was easier to just run and have fun, listen to the big jazz bands, etc. I did not however partake in the free Jello shots, beer, or strawberry daiquiris offered up along the way! Although the course was jammed with party-goers, strollers, and big groups of walkers I could not let myself get too frustrated (even though I was at first), I was once one of those slow runners and still am considering how many people passed me up! I think I will do this race again, maybe, and will try and get myself a bit further up closer to the start line, to bypass some of the slower folks. All in all it was a perfect day, the weather was cool and not humid at all, so very unlike NOLA! Wow 17K people. That is crazy. Sounds like you had a good experience, though. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: PowerPuff Girls Happy Easter everyone. I played tennis today, it was a good match, I lost but my opponents were really good. It was very close. My only problem, is my right foot is acting up with PF. So I did not run today, I'll try to get in a run tomorrow and see how it goes. Might have to go back to short runs again. bummer. Might have to go back to short runs again. bummer. I had PF several years ago. It got severe enough that it actually caused me to injure my other leg, so I couldn't run for a couple of weeks (this was before I did triathlons, too). In addition to the traditional approach to rehab, my coach recommend the book, Pain Free, by Pete Egoscue. It has been an amazing asset to my training. Not only did I relieve and get rid of my PF, I was able to eventually get rid of the orthotics I had put in my shoes to support my poor aching foot. I also believe that the exercises have saved me from injury (particularly the overuse kind) on a number of occasions. The other thing I picked up was the Trigger Point therapy for PF and foot pain to help keep my calves loose and healthy. Anyway, you can get Pain Free in paperback at any bookstore. Something to consider. |

Is it really worth it? |

Yesterday ended up being a rest day, although not planned it worked out good for me, it's amazing how hard it is to take a rest day I always feel so guilty! I always feel guilty too. Especially if the weather is really nice I can't seem to plan rest days, I find it easier to just wake up and say, "I'm going to be lazy today." Then again who ever really rests? Between the laundry, dishes, gardening, etc, it was still a busy day. |
