Ok, I laughed out loud on this one!

Tracy-I used "That's OK" with my husband two days ago, right after he told me he has a fishing tournament the day of my HIM.  Shortly thereafter, came the "Go ahead" and go to the tournament.  When he asked me if there was anything wrong later that night, out came "Nothing!".

Tracy, Habitat House - take a nail gun.  The first time I did a Habitat House all the Habitat people thought I was crazy for bringing my own gun (I have a Paslode framing gun).  But my arm wasn't sore and was framing walls faster than crews of two or three.
I always get called now when a house is getting started.  And Habitat pays for my nails.

And Tracy, your list is the reason men and women don't really get along.  We only hang around for certain benefits.

John, I like your five words.  The joke in my old neighborhood was ...
1. Make
2. Me
3. A
4. Sandwich,
5. Bi*ch!
The women loved it!!!

Tracy - HFH is a great cause. We do it every year thru work.

John- Nice bike & baby

Rob-- With the big swinging salary you'll be pulling from T.O., I think I need you to get a new bike for your 1/2 IM pronto(maybe donate the old beast to the salvation army!!)HA

And to the 'go get me a beer' and ' go make me a sandwich" group, I would add "HTFU and" before those phrases.

A couple of months ago I couldn't figure out what HTFU stood for.  Google brought me to the funniest you tube video from some Aussie comedian called Chopper Reid...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EY7lYRneHc

My wife laughed and laughed.  I was instructed not to tell my 8 yr daughter to HTFU when she was whining about something a week or two ago!

Not sure if she said "Go Ahead" or not though

So that's where I went wrong, go figure.Tongue out  Of course I'm really not so sure I want to see what it is I'm swimming in/with.  I may not get back in.

You people are all kinds of silly this morning.  You all are totaly cracking me up!!!

What worries you more?  Medical waste (syringes) or creepy crawlies (snakes).

Personally the snakes freak me out more!  The fun part about TX is that we get to worry about gators as well...  The thing I hate most about some of the OK lakes like Keystone or Acadia is that anything that is white ends up pink....

Am I too late to get in on the virtual tri?  I've been trying to stay caught up with you guys, but it's not easy - some of us actually have to work during the dayTongue out, and have teenagers that take up all the time on the computer at home.

I am really lacking in motivation to get on the bike.  Part of that is because I don't really feel safe riding near my house (also very hilly), part of it is because I still find the bike to be hard.  I'm sure that's because of riding an older model MTB but I just can't afford a road bike right now.  I am hoping to get to the LBS this weekend and "window shop".  I'd like to at least try out a couple of bikes to see what would work for me when I do have the $$ to actually buy one.

On a good note, the swimming is coming along pretty well and I'm really enjoying my runs.  2 out of 3 ain't bad, right?Smile

Janet it is not too late to join anything... This is going to be a very "lax" comptetition strictly for fun.  My plan (if we are spreading it out over 2 weeks) is to just incorporate speedwork into a longer work out and log it towards the "competition."

I'm right there with you Janet.  Why does the bike leg have to be so long?

Side note....I was at a race last weekend and went for a swim the day before the race to splash around.  Up to my knees in the ocean and had six stingrays swim right in front of me.  Yikes, isn't that what did the Crocodile Hunter in????
Once I finally got in (my husband laughing at me) I kept seeing shadows of "big things" in the water.    I switched from my preferred smoke goggles to clear (the shadows were not good for my imagination).  During the race I hardly opened my eyes on the swim.  Ignorance is bliss....or at least blind to what is about to get you.    I did get stung by a few jellyfish during the swim, but I'm ok with jellyfish stings.

Anyway, why is the bike leg so long?

No, not complaining about any bike distance in particular, just that the bike portion is so much longer than the swim & run - in any tri.  (It's obvious where my weakness is).  The longer bike rides are actually suited better for me than the sprints - since I have no speed!

If you haven't completed the teams for the virtual team sprint tri I would love to get in on it. Would really bring my training back together. I'll have to read more of the stuff I missed while away to get the rules for it.

I'm with you on the snakes. My very first OWS was in our very murky lake and the whole time I kept hearing this hissing sound.  Partly my swim cap was over my ears causing a funny sound, partly my imagination.  Either way, I was freaked out the whole time.  Way to be brave out there.  You too Linda.  Yuck!!!!

Serious question (I know, rare for me).  I just bought a pair of swim fins and, all be it they were a blast to use and made me go super fast, I don't quite know what I am suppose to be doing with them.  I used them for my streamlining and kick board drills, is there another use for them?  They really were fun though.  If I could use fins and a wet suit during every race I'd be all set!!!

Different strokes for different folks.  I wonder why the heck the swim is so long! I want an IM with a sprint length swim!

Can we talk wetsuits?  what do you have? why do you like it? are the bells and whistles worth it?

My tri group gets a great discount on Blue Seventy.  Just looked at both the Syngergie and Helix.  The Helix is $119 more expensive, but has greater stretch in the shoulders and zips down versus up which I kind of like, etc .  I can't try on either because there are no XS, but I can return it if it doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

1) I'd love to get in on the virtual race but please don't nickname me "anchor"  Embarassed

2) Regarding the snakes in the water: when I was a kid, we'd go visit my dad who lived in Oregon. We'd waterski on the Willamette river and sometimes, they'd be a huge die-off of freshwater eels in the lake. You'd keep "bumping" over them skiiing and then when you finally fell, they'd be all around you. Pretty gross - but still better than sharks in my book.

Suzy,

I have a Zoot Zenith that I got  a few months ago. I love it.  I got it  off Sierra Trading Post at a great price. I just checked and they have a size Small left for $349 and they send 20% codes all the time if you sign up for email from them.  I think I got mine for $260 total (reatils at $600) which seemed like a huge chunk for me, but once I got it, I really loved it. The material is the softest I've ever felt on a wetsuit and I love the fit.

I have an ORCA S2 full.  I went in the store looking for a sleeveless but the ORCA full was only $40 more.  The great feature of my suit is the shoulders.  It is made a thinner layer of soft neoprene, where the rest of the suit has a thicker layer with the thicker "rubbery" coating.  This still provides plenty of buoyancy b/c it is thinner and more flexible at the shoulders I have greater flexibilty and less resistance.  But to be honest, if I would have had the money I probably would have bought a Blue Seventy.  I've heard great things about them.  I think Steve has that brand.

text from the website describing the shoulders better than me.....
The 5mm HydroLift body panels on the front and back will help with body position in the water, while the 2mm QuadraFlex underarm panel and DeltaStretch shoulder panel help provide an excellent range of motion.
