Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lisa - Hope you feel better. I was out there shoveling a lot too. Kate - It would be a lot for me, but I only like to race once a month at the most... If it were me I'd want an Oly prep but a few more weeks out from the HIM. 2 isn't much recovery time before your taper. I don't think you need much recovery from the Sprint though so I think you could do it if you're determined. Maybe not do the Oly run part? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Forgot to weigh myself yesterday - 215 (again) this morning. Plateau days are here again app. Mid bloat so maybe next week I'll be down. I have been noticing some nice body changes lately though - legs are slimming up nicely, getting more compact all over. So that is good. I'm getting ready to start 12 week Oly->HIM bridge on the 15th! Whee. kiri |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wouldn't do that personally. I guess it all depends on how quickly you recover from racing. I would think a sprint would be okay 2 weeks before... fyi: I'm not sure how fast i'm going to recover from Olys yet - for a sprint i'm okay the next day. My last oly is scheduled just shy of a month out from my HIM. kiri ~ AZ Sunshine ~ - 2010-02-11 12:04 AM Need your opinions - What do you think about me doing an OLY 2 weeks before my HIM and a week after a sprint? Is that too much? We are hitting tri season down here and I have lots of options!! |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() When I did my 15k I was surprisingly sore the next handful of days... Oly is only 10k but I guess it depends how much you push those 10k. If your more concerned about getting the swimming practice in you could always skip the run (but that would drive me crazy) BTW looks like my UK trip is ON!! Going in 2 weeks. Husband will be working most of that time so I'll basically be puttering around exploring on my own. Hotel doesn't have a gym but apparently within a 15 minute walk is a gym I can use for 5 pounds, so I might get at least a few training workouts in. Looks like they have a pool too. |

I don't think you need much recovery from the Sprint though so I think you could do it if you're determined. Maybe not do the Oly run part? I tend to agree. I am doing the Desert International (slightly shorter than Olympic distance) on March 7, three weeks before the HIM and that seems about right to me, although I wish it was four weeks. I haven't decided how much taper I am going to do for the HIM, probably no more than just taking it easy that last week. The idea with the race on March 7 is to see what I need to work on in the last two weeks of training before the taper before the race. Not that two weeks is a lot of time, but hopefully I won't need to work on a lot. I think I would regard the sprint race as practicing transitions, getting the wetsuit off and that sort of thing. Think of it like a brick workout. Man, oh man. This is all coming up sooner than I think it is. I really need to get out there and ride my bike on the road. Reality check time. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks so much for your feed back. After reading your posts I think it is too much. I'd love to do the swim and skip the rest of it!! Could be a good confidence booster! I'm feeling good right now. I'm not losing any weight but I'm feeling much stronger. I weighed in at 193. I officially decided that I am not going to worry about weight loss again until after the HIM. After the race I am going to have to do something differently. What I'm doing now isn't working. I need to explore the no sugar option. I think I may have sugar/insulin level issues. This weekend my bro-in-law wants to do our own long distance tri. I don't know if it will go or not. I'm pushing for doing a swim run and a long ride (50-60) on Sunday. We'll see. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone, I'm here! (Barely) Got 28 inches of snow Saturday and then another 12-15 inches Tuesday night...let's just say the only thing I've been doing is shoveling and putting a heating pad on my back. I need to get some core exercises into my routine to build up my strength. I did get out and do a brief stint on the elliptical Monday night at the gym. I haven't been on one in so long I wasn't sure what I was capable of. I did the hill program at Level 5 for 35 minutes and barely broke a sweat..so if I do that again anytime soon I'll have to step it up quite a few levels! I also noticed my gym has finally got in some new equipment. They have the stair climbers with the actual rotating stairs, so I'm happy about that plus some new treadmills so I'll have to check those out since there is no way I can run outside..there's just too much snow! We're getting more Sunday night! I can't believe it! This is my first day back to work in a week! Hope everyone has a great weekend! Great job on the races ladies!! Keep up the good work! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ugh . . . all the snowy weather sounds deadful. Lisa and Keely's upper bodies are probably ripped with muscles now. Hang in there east coasters! Don't pay any attention to AZ weather. It will only get you down! Taking a night off for a big work out weekend. I'm pretty stoked about it! Anyone else have something fun scheduled? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone. I was scheduled to be on an airplane this morning at 6:50 to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to visit my sister over the long weekend. But they have gotten so much snow that the airport is shut down so I am still in town. So, I got in my usual Friday workout of a run to Crossfit. Tomorrow I am going to ride my bike on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and plan on little blips up the canyon roads. It would be nice if I made it up a whole mile uphill, but I am not really expecting that. I am hoping to get in 50-60 miles. And then on Monday, I am going on a flat river route and hope to get in 60 miles, just time in the saddle. It is going to be gorgeous here - high 70's. No snow. Sorry. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm feeling better since this afternoon so tomorrow I plan to resume normal workouts. I have crossfit and a short run tomorrow and a long run (90 min) Sunday. Have a nice weekend everyone! Enjoy your nice LOOOOONG weekend rides warmies! I'm looking forward to riding outside again, in AZ in a few weeks and in about a month or so in my own area. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey gang. I did my first 2000m swim since the accident! I actually beat my bro in law!! He said he thought I seemed faster then in the fall. ?? I have been focusing on form b/c of my shoulder injury. Still slow compared to the rest you. After our swim we dried off at the gym and went out for a 6.2 mile run. That was slower then I've been running but I'm ok with it. I'm just so glad we did it!! Tonight we are gearing up for our long ride. We have route planned out. Should be 50-60 miles. The distance will depend if we add some climbs or not. I'll give you an update tomorrow. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everyone. I did my longest ride in several years. I went about 52 miles, Not particularly fast, but I averaged 16 mph on the first part and 15 on the return. There are rolling hills along part of it, nothing like we will see at the HIM, but a good start. And there is one of those hills that I have had to walk up in the past and I didn't have to do any walking. I feel pretty good. I know I'm not ready for the HIM bike yet, but I have a better idea of what I need to do and how close I am. I'm planning another 50+ ride on Monday and a) that will get me back on target with my Challenge Group and b) be good practice for the HIM. That ride will not have any hills and just be for the distance. Have a good weekend! Happy training. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just got back from my run this morning and my knees were a little creaky, which I am attributing to yesterday's 52 mile bike ride. Well, I guess they better suck it up and get used to this, hadn't they? I am now off to take a lavender Epsom salt bath with my cat. Well, I go in the water and she lies on a towel I put out for her on the edge of the tub. We call it (one of) our girl bonding times. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IdealMuse - 2010-02-14 9:30 AM Yes, tell those knees who's boss. Now the important question. Cat's Name? Her name is Lexi and the boy cat is Chester, but he does not go anywhere NEAR the bathtub. It has worked well for him because he has never fallen in. I can't say the same for Lexi who has fallen in two or three times over the eight years of her life. It is kinda funny about their names and the unintentional narcissistic aspect. CHuck and LEah and CHester and LExi. We didn't notice this until several years after the naming of them. What pets does everyone else have? My cats are both Siamese, by the way. Lexi is the traditional looking Siamese and her littermate brother is long-haired and white with red ears and face and tail. She is seal point and he is flame point. You would never know by looking at them that they had the same mother and father. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Current kitties are: Tekka (like the Sushi) He is also Siamese... blue point. He's a quirky guy has loads of personality but runs away when people come over. and Zim (Invader Zim is a cartoon) He is a sweet but overweight gray cat. Very friendly. They both stay far away from the tub. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great ride Leah! I'm so proud of you! Looks like your bike coaching is paying off. Knowing you can do the distance is huge for the confidence. RIDE: I just did a 65 mile ride. It was longer than I thought we were going to go but we added in a climbing loop for hill practice. This is the first ride over 40 we have done since November. It went really well and the changes I made to my seat and my shorts really helped out. My girl parts didn't feel "raw" after this ride! I have a long way to go before our HIM. I just have to keep up the work and not burn our before the big race. PETS: We have beta fish for the kids. They are easy, pretty and live forever!! My kids are starting to beg for a puppy or kitty but I can't commit yet. Hope you all had a great weekend. Kate |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 3 cats, nothing exotic.... Copy is 8 or 9 year old gray & black tabby. Oscar is 3 year old orange & white tabby (in need of kitty wt watcher's he's over 20 lbs!) He has issues and is on kitty prozac. At least he uses the litter box again! Mocha is also 3 years old, black & white tuxedo kitty. We got Oscar and Mocha from our vet when another orange & white tabby of mine died suddenly (saddle thrombus). Oscar was bottle raised in their office and Mocha was found abandoned under a dumpster. He was a sickly little thing when we brought him home.... My older daughter has a betta fish--needed him for a biology project and since we had to take care of him and purchase all the stuff that goes with fish we have a fish in the house. |
