PennState - 2010-02-23 2:37 PM IMHO off-days are very important in ironman training. They allow you to really hit your goals in the important training sessions in the rest of the week. Just making conversation...

Agree. I love my rest days, every Monday. It's the best part of my week.

I'm back in the forum after a lengthy hiatus. I had been on a decent run of base training but then went to Vancouver for the Olympics for two weeks for work and ended up working 16 hours a day 14 straight days. Ive never been so tired and there was no way training would work. I tried to run and my feet hurt so badly I had to stop. So I'm back on the wagon this week and taking some time off work to get re focused. I could still have a decent race with a little work.

Welcome back LM

To answer the "what shows are good for the trainer" question...  I tend to like sports, action movies, or action series (Band of Brothers).  The action tends to keep me motivated and helps my adrenaline spike at times.  Either way you slice it though, the drainer is tough.   For me, it's 90% mental.

PennState - 2010-02-24 10:06 AM I'm off to brave the cold weather on a ride in a few minutes... anything to reduce my trainer time

If you'd come to the group trainer ride you would see how fun it is and not have to ride in the cold.

Welcome back to the insanity! In the grand scheme of things, I don't really believe two weeks off in February are gonna affect your race result tremendously (or, well, that's what I keep telling myself every time this month sickness [like today] or an injury tries to push me off the training wagon).

Cool that you were in Vancouver. Can I ask what kind of work you do that you were at the Olympics?

You inspired me to think about doing a ride outside today instead of the trainer - and then I saw that temperature wasn't going to reach freezing so I changed my mind!

Oh and I need to vent to the rest of you.  I am on a recovery week and I  HATE it, not because of the lack of training (unlike most of you I can cope with that - I think I'm lazy at heart!) but because I find it SO HARD to control my eating during these weeks.
Why???? It  must be mental.  The annoying thing is I'd like to lose a few pounds too so this doesn't help at all.
All tips gratefully received!

I was doing PR for one of the sponsors. I posted some links in my blog I believe if you want to check any of it out. It was incredible, but it really beat me up.

I'm hoping the two weeks off won't hurt too much. I'm easing back in slowly.

Just thought I would check the USAT rankings again.  For M45-49 after 3 races I am 153/3041 that's in the top 5%.  Not too shabby for the second year back.

James, they are still working on the final rankings, so there's still a chance. I'm in some VERY good company, Kevin was the AG winner at IMAZ, beat me by 10min:

I was born in 1962 year of the Tiger and yes this is my year.  Laughing

btw here is a excerpt from Chinese Astrology Horoscope for Year of the Tiger 2010

“The Tiger is active and loves to do things fast”

How are the winds at LP on the Bike Course?

Last year for me I only remember a slight head wind in two spots so not bad, imo.  Those spots were a few miles at the end of Hwy 9 to Upper Jay before the Left turn on Hwy 86 to Wilmington and around Whiteface Mt on Hwy 86 out of Wilmington.

Most of the course has natural wind blocks called Mountains.  Nothing to be concerned about but like mommy always said things change and especially weather.
