Regular 75 Liverpool, England | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've had a great week of training this week. Did a century ride yesterday on my new TT bike. When the roads were smooth, flat and people free I flew! The ride has given me the confidence that I needed on the new bike. I do need to do more work on my nutrition though. On the running side of things, my physio did some work on my left knee on Friday and when I went for a run afterwards I didn't have as much pain as I normally get. Was over the moon with that. Guess I'll have to get her to come to Florida with me!!! Sorry to hear of the various injuries and crashes. Stay safe everyone. |

If you look at the map, you will see the out and back on 388 and that is where bike special needs is located. |

Hang in there....hope you heal up fast. My longest run since April is just over 6 miles...injury/surgery has really hurt my run fitness but swim and bike are better. |

Actually its not on the out and back its right before you turn off Route 20 on to 231 about 50 miles in to the ride Edited by Socks 2010-09-06 8:51 AM |

Sorry to hear of so many injuries and issues. Heal fast folks. And yes, I did notice - 60 days out. The big workouts are coming for the next few weeks. |

Expert 1139 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Woohoo! Just finished an Oly this morning and I feel great! After the past Olympics that I've raced I've been dead tired and it was uncomfortable to walk so I'm real excited with the days results and am ready to tackle the big workouts on the way to Florida. My legs don't feel dead and I'm looking forward to getting back in the pool tomorrow. I ended up setting an Oly PR by about 20 minutes with a 2:34, I really think I could have gotten into the upper 2:20's if it hadn't rained and the humidity hadn't gone through the roof. |

Not that I don't believe you, but it certainly doesn't make much sense to me to have special needs before the halfway point of the bike. It was a surprise my first year. I have done the race 3 times and its been in the same spot each year. Of course they could move it but once you turn off route 20 you get onto a much busier road and there probably isn't a great place for them to do it. then you turn onto camp flowers road which is quite bumpy and residential so not great place there either. I'd rather have it at mile 50 than mile 70 which is probably the next best place. |

What about waves in the ocean? Are they generally low in the morning... like low tide or something?? COuld be almost anything. Water temp is usually low 70s. Could be flat could have waves. Could be windless or very windy. Hard to know. My first in 2006 was the worst conditions in the history of the race. It was 31 degree on the beach (water was 71) we had 20-30 MPH winds on the bike. It might have broken 70 during the day. I have been up there the last 4 years and raced 06, 08, 09 We had perfect weather 07 and 08 last year was a little blustery but nothing like 2006. Really no humidity to speak of. If you are going to be a late finisher (like me ) I would consider a long sleeved tech shirt for the 2nd half of the run. I used arms warmers all 3 years I raced. Best to be prepared for everything and not get stuck in the pre-race days spending lots of money of potential throw aways. |

I got some awesome pink fuzzy walmart slippers for $5 that I was gonna throw away on the beach but loved em so wore some socks from the transition area to the beach! Arm and leg warmers for the bike were good! Both 07 and 09 I put on long sleeves for loop 2 of the run...it got breezy and cool. |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey everyone! I just wanted to pop in a first of all say good luck! I just finished IMLOO last weekend. It was my first IM and a day I will never forget. I was also wondering about signing up for IMFL. Did you sign up in person or online? Any idea how fast it filled up? I assume it was within a matter of hours. I am considering signing up for 2011 and was wondering if I needed to make the trip down. I would absolutely love to, just to cheer everyone on, but not so sure I can get away with it because of work. (I work most weekends.) Again, best of luck and thanks for the help. Maybe I'll see you there! |

Regular 72 Baltimore, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Thanks for the countdown Kathy! It's exciting AND scary to see it approaching so fast. Visitng the family this weekend but still managed to get in a long ride Friday. Yesterday I did a 20 mile run with the bf and followed it up with 18 holes of golf with the family. Does that count as a brick workout? I have to say that it was the best training run I've ever had. Definintely felt like I could have continued for quite a while. I've got two 100 mile rides planned in the next few weeks. Should I add more or will 2 suffice? I'm struggling the quality vs quantity dilemna. Hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend! (those in the US most likely). Welcome to the people joining the group. |

Congrats on IMKY!!! IMFL doesn't sell out as quickly as it used to as there are now 3 ironmans to choose from in November (FL. AZ and Cozumel) You can probably get in online and the reality is its probably cheeper to buy a community fund slot than to go down and sign up................although infinately less fun |
