I'm really disturbed. they (being commercial produce farms) inject a starch solution in chicken breasts to give it the look and volume that we have come to expect in the stores. find a local chicken farmer. Seriously? I had NO idea!! if you read the label there is a teeny tiny line that says "includes up to x% solution" something like that. apparently it's been the practice for quite some time that when people are given chickens that haven't been injected, the appearance is different and they go back to the purdue. Hmm, so people tend to prefer plumper, fuller breasts? (But in all seriousness, that's kind of sad that they inject chicken breasts.  )They do it after they are butchered, if that makes you feel any better. Although how they treat them when they are alive is pretty pathetic, if you care about those things. I do. I've even toyed with the idea of going vegetarian, but haven't yet. Dooo eeeeet!  Jen I knew fast food places pumped their meats up with all kinds of stuff, but didn't really know that regular grocery store meat also had it. Just one more reason to go veggie |

Just one more reason to go veggie Well, I've decided to go meatless 1 day a week, and will try to make it twice a week. One important issue is my diabetes -- I need to be careful that my meals are well balanced, which means making sure I always get quality protein, not just carbs and fat. But of course, this is doable. But I'll be honest, the biggest issue is that I really do like the taste of meat... |
