Expert 1007 Missouri | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Melanie - congrats on finishing your HIM! Looking forward to reading the RR. Erin - congrats on your race too! Speaking of saddles - I've been thinking about maybe trying a new one on my bike. I have just the stock saddle that came with the bike and my butt has pretty much gotten used to it, but the rest of me, not so much. It's not too bad when I ride outside and can move around a little, but being on the trainer where I'm pretty much just sitting the whole time, is torture. I'm trying to extend my rides but can't make it more than an hour right now without thinking that it's just not worth it. I might run by the LBS this week and see what they've got. I thing anything would probably be better than what I have. |

I also had a Terry butterfly that I liked, but it didn't survive the switch to the tri bike- different riding position and all. LOL on trying to explain saddle pain to a dude. My bike fit guy is actually an RN who does this in his garage. It helped- it was so easy to talk to a nurse about this stuff! Way to kill it on the race- hope the shin forgives you for it! Thanks, Tammy! Yep, gotta check out the Cobb saddle. Love that your bike fit guy is a nurse:-) Melanie, congrats on the 70.3. I don't know how you guys do it! |

Great job on your first HIM!! How were the jellies?? |

Expert 683 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! X-however-many on needing to check out the Cobb saddle...will have to wait until I get back from Europe, I think. The one I have is OK, but not ideal... should such a thing as an ideal saddle exist! Pulled the trigger today and signed up for a HIM in Antwerp while I'm away-- needless to say, I'm terrified! But it's the same weekend as Waco, so at least I'll be drinking beer at probably the same time as you Texas racers that day, given the time differences! All right-- back to work for me. Must read a doctoral dissertation before Thursday's defense. Hope everyone's having an excellent day! Alex |

Expert 1007 Missouri | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Alex - congrats on signing up for the HIM! I need to sit down this weekend and figure out my fall races (although they definitely won't include a HIM). I'm thinking about heading to the track tonight to get in the speedwork that I'll miss tomorrow night. I'd rather do it with the group but we're heading to Mizzou Thursday/Friday to get DD signed up and oriented for college in the fall. I can't believe my baby is old enough already. There's part of me that's not ready to let her go but there's also the part that's ready for the "empty nest" and spending more time with DH - and training of course. I may actually try for an Olympic distance next year. It's something I'd like to do - just need to put in the training time. Janet2 |

New user 322 KY | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Well, finally got my shin x-rayed today. I haven't hear anything for the doctor (the xray tech sent me home with a shiny, new cd of this picture and that was it). But, there's definitely a white line in the exact location of my pain (mid/lower shin). It feels good to be taking some initiative. Finally. After seven months of pain. You'd never guess I'm a procrastinator, right?! |

Finally went running. 2.11 miles in 48:30 - I'm getting faster again. Next week I'll attempt some hills. I think I can do this 5k in mid July. |

Hope it heals well. What is your recovery time and what do they recommend? I'm curious. If anyone is spending time at their computer tomorrow, DC Rainmaker is giving away a bunch of items he has reviewed. Here are the details. |

Extreme Veteran 746 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Alex - good luck with the HIM Janet - I'm sure DD will be fine. ME - sorry I haven't been checking in here regularly. I've been getting bogged down by school work. Finally getting a holiday though so I should be able to keep up better. Only got a short to/from the shops run/walk in today - ok coming back was all walk - but I managed to do 0.18 miles in 2:42 for a 15 min/mile pace during the out part and got only my second sub 20 pace for the year. Ankle is still giving me grief though so I'm going to skip the 5k in July and concentrate on the tri in November instead. That means I get to do a baseline swim tomorrow to see how much endurance I've lost in the pool. |

New user 322 KY | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Joe, I am still waiting to hear from the radiologist with the results (should be early this week). What I'm hoping for is that the white line is calcification and a sign of healing. The injury actually happened when I was training for a marathon last fall. Reading my running logs, I complained of shin pain in that spot for 2 months going into the race. At mile 17 of the marathon (Nov. 2011) I had to DNF with unbearable pain. Took 2 months off, tried to come back and wasn't ready. THEN, I did the unintelligent thing. I signed up for a sprint tri series over the winter. I still had pain, but would "cram" with a couple runs right before the race, complete the race and then be on the shelf again for another few weeks. It went on for about 7 months but I'm sure it would have healed much sooner had I taken the resting seriously. I also cycled throughout the duration, even though that seemed to aggravate it. So that is my advice on what NOT to do! lol Now, when I stress fractured my fibula a couple years ago I just rested and pool ran for 6 weeks and that was plenty of time to heal. I hope your recovery is uneventful and that you're back out there very soon. Those stress fractures are nasty, frustrating injuries! |

To our newest MMMers, you guys haven't really gotten to know him because he's had a really bad 18 months or so, dealing with some health issues and some personal stuff. I'm sure he'd love some cyber hugs if you could stop by his blog... give him some MMMer love!! And hopefully he'll be back with us full time!!

I've moved my run and bike workouts around preparing for two mid-90 degree days Wed and Thurs. I'm not quite ready for the jump in temps. I hope that they are correct and that we'll be in the 80s for Fri and weekend. I'm volunteering at tge finish line of a local olympic tri on Sunday. |

Veteran 285 Austin | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! I officially kicked off my Century ride training on Sunday. Although it turns out my planned race has changed dates, with the new date not working for me (thanks to Hilde for catching this for me!). But, no worries I'll find something else and am also trying to talk Hilde into joining me & the hubby (Tammy & Connie - you guys want in too!!?) I also had my last consult to get Lasik eye surgery and am planning to go under the lasers next Tuesday. The biggest downside is I will be off of swimming for 5 weeks. I'm feeling a bit betrayed by my swimming after my last tri, so maybe some time apart will do us good. Then again, maybe it will only make it worse! |

Extreme Veteran 746 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Finally got my baseline swim in - 100m continuous free and 200 if I include backstroke. That was on the back of 1.8 miles walk/run with a hill thrown in which I ran the first section of instead of wimping out and walking. Thinking I may swap it round on Saturday to see what my true baseline is. Oh and the pool is doing another swim clinic this holidays which I can actually attend so I'll probably be doing that too. Now I just need to get the bike out. Plan saids 20 mins tomorrow. Should give me at least 2 miles if I don't put any hills in. |

Expert 1618 Temple, TX | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! So the summer is truly upon us (except for Suzie who is having cold weather in Australia!), and we are all feeling the effects of the heat. Be sure to have plenty of water and get out there in the coolest part of the day when you can. Treadmills and trainers are also alternatives if you can stand them! Find a friend or a group and get out to the lake/ocean/river and get in a few OWS's before your race.
Speaking of races, we have have a few racers this weekend, all on Sunday! Kristen, Erin, and Michelle are all doing triathlons!! All have put in awesome training and I expect them to do well... give them some cheering before they go, GO MMMers!!!!! And if you haven't stopped by Wilson's log, please do and send him some love... he broke his clavicle while in the UK last week and is down for at least a month, as well as going through some pretty crappy personal stuff. He WILL be back, he assures me!! Keep on training peeps!!! |

Veteran 421 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Go racers! I know that you are well prepared and will rock the course! I signed up to volunteer at the finish line at a local Oly which also has an Aquabike and Du. I got an email this morning about arriving at 6:30 and working a water station on the 5K of the Du and then the 10K after. I emailed back saying that I thought I signed up for finish line 8am-11am time slot. They agreed and told me who to look for. They mentioned that they may need help with food as well. It should be interesting... This should be better than the water stop, as my 7 year old wants to "help" too and at least if he gets bored he can run around as the finish is in a local park with play ground, etc. |
