Extreme Veteran 347![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() , Utah | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGOk I'm a little late to the food party but I'll give my two cents anyway. Usually I don't really think about where my fresh food comes from. I grew up having a garden and I enjoy gardening So I always try to plant a garden. My neighbor were amazed in Texas with my tiny lot how much food I could grow. I turned flower beds into veggie beds. I even put in small raised beds in the alley. I got a good harvest from my grapes vines. My lot here in Utah is much bigger and my household is bigger too. Last night My sister and I and the 6 kids talked about what veggies they want in the garden this year. Thinking back to last summer most of what we ate came either from our garden or a extended family members garden or a neighbors garden. I helped my sister in law can peaches from a local orchard. I'm going to plant some fruit trees this spring. We mostly eat canned or frozen in the winter. But I do buy fresh fruits and veggies that are on sale and I never check to see where they were grown. SO I'm going to keep trying to grow as much of my own food as I can and not worrry to much about when I get the rest. If you haven't tried to grow your own veggies I encourage you to try. You can grow alot in a simple 4 foot by 4 foot raised bed. Tiana Edited by tritiny 2012-01-24 12:32 PM |

I keep wanting to start a small raised bed of maybe zucchini and lettuce. Maybe this will be the year! Bucket list, wow, I have achieved a few of the things on my "list" *quoted because I haven't thought about this since graduating from college*...but the one thing left on my sporty list that I guess I need to change is: Competing in the Olympics. Cuz it's not going to happen at this point. Yes, like Christina, a girl can dream. But maybe I will change that to the Senior Games (track and field might be fun) I also have a dream of going to Australia and New Zealand. No racing here in the 60 and sunny! As for bucket list stuff ... Race: Escape from Alcatraz, swim the Chesapeake, Boston Marathon (don't know that I'll ever be that fast), complete an IM No race: Thru-hike the AT (been wanting to do this since I was a ranger at Philmont), play Augusta National (fingers crossed, I may have a shot at it this spring), visit Rome and Jerusalem

Thanks for all of the supportive messages as I grieve the end of the football season. Good news is, I'm saving lots of money and empty calories by NOT having a Superbowl party. Sunday runs don't have to be as early, either. Ah, well. Always next year. Went through 4 bunches of Kale yesterday. Wow. Who'd a thunk it? It went faster than the egg rolls. What are your best kale recipes? The only thing I have made is kale chips and I actually got sick of them. All I got is Kyla's chips.....olive oil and flavored salt, roasted! |

My first race ian olympic distance race on 4/28. I have never done this race but it is within 10 miles of my house. Since I am racing longer this year I figured I would try it. The family is planning on going to San Fransico for the first week of April. We have had the kids help pick out the itinerary for the trip. My daughter is really excited about the Exploratorium. The Exploratorium is AMAZING. Been a while, but they used to take reservations for the tactile gallery - and it's a MUST SEE. Look into that......!! |

So who is racing this weekend. If you're not racing, please share with us your bucket list. Include at least one race and one no-race related event.
No racing but maybe a 1.2km ocean swim tomorrow if the weather settles - blowing a gale out there for the past 3 days! Bucket list: Sporting: Ironman France! I'd need to get seriously strong on the bike but it looks worth it. London Marathon The Big Swim - in Sydney
Non-sporting: See the kids happy and healthy and bringing me lots of grandkids to love one day! How soppy is that? Travel, travel, travel - there's lots of Oz I haven't seen, lots of Asia and I'd love to travel round America. I've spent a lot of time in Europe and been to most places but I'd like to spend a season in the Alps again (did it once in a fantastic French resort called Megeve) and I'd love to cycle through the Italian and French Alps. |
