SportzVision - 2013-02-03 9:10 PM My feet cramp so badly in pool! As soon as my feet hit the water, literally, they start to cramp. I am often just dragging my feet behind me because I can't kick. Any ideas to prevent this?
This happens to me as well, usually towards the end of longer swims though, I usually just try to stretch them out on the wall/floor of the pool. Only had one time after doing some serious kicking drills that it nearly drowned me, so dont worry...just keep stretching....theyll get in line! |

I managed yoga and day one of the push up challenge. Yoga twisting and stretching really helped with the tummy and my arms are sore today. SportzVision - 2013-02-04 9:50 PM Got to work a half hour early this morning, why I don't know, then realized it was a furlough day and I shouldn't even have been at work! I stayed at work since the drive is an hour and half one way and arranged to take my furlough on Wednesday. Husband calls to tell me we have major plumbing problems and we should get a hotel for the night...changed my furlough again to have tomorrow off so I can hold tools for Mr. Fix it while he does the dirty work...gross! My stomach is aching something awful tonight too...what else? No workout ...nah gotta do something. Its almost 8 but that does not mean I can skip the training session...will hit the base gym and shower there tonight. Cynthia - no one can fault you for not having enough determination... Way to battle through the adversity and make the most out of what sounds like a shi$^y situation Hope you are feeling better this morning! |

Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Good news on the trainerroad plan. Those workouts are a beast! I am still hitting some and I am sure the 11 week plan will increase for fitness. Did you do the FTP test yet? I've done the 20min and the 8min. I'm disappointed in the results, or perhaps humbled is the right word. The 20min results were about 152 watts, and this morning's 8min was 170 watts. I'm still getting used to the trainer, so that may be part of it. I'm going to do Black tonight, with the new 170 figure as the baseline, and see how it feels. Using 152 as the baseline, I ran Colosseum (50% to 80% FTP) and my heart rate never went above 130, which is well below my z2 threshold. Comparing heart rate and wattage is a bit of a non sequitur, but I though that there'd be at least some relation. The alternative is that my easy days aren't easy enough, which is a common enough refrain that there must be some wisdom in it.
I'm also down for the pushup challenge. Currently, it took me five sets to do 100 pushups (30, 20, 20, 15, and 15), so we'll see how it improves this month. |

Did I miss anyone? Did you buy the app? By the end of March you will be doing 100 pushups in a row! Also don't forget the 27 workouts in 28 days challenge! 6 pushup challenge workouts count as one towards that number so that will be 2 workouts for the month of March!
App bought!...PUMPED to do 100 Pushups! |

Veteran 340 Dallas | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Darren, might you be with child? You might want to pick up a preg test. I kinda feel the same after the superbowl. Push up challenge going well. Too cheap for the app. Just doing 33, 33, 34. My kids are into it. I came down for breakfast yesterday and they were doing them already! Short bike today for recovery week. Run swim Wednesday.

I need a filler until I can run and bike again. I am trying to keep the cardio up instead of sitting on the computer or couch. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed BigDH - 2013-02-05 10:49 AM Today I rode to work. A bit icy so had to walk a bit. So run at lunch. Ride home. Some yoga. Should be a 4 hour day. Also, I am on a beer a day routine now. Actually no beer last night, oops, forgot. The 192 lbs on the scale, a 12 pound weight gain in January, convinced me that the liter a day beer habit is not sustainable. Onward... How in the hell do you gain 12 pounds and weigh 192 if you work out 4 hours a day. (that's the emoticon for surprised!) 3 beers a day = 600 calories - tops! I would imagine that you would burn that off by riding one way to work. Maybe you should switch to those Molson 67s... 3 beers = 200 calories Congrats on the solid day. If you keep that up - you will look better than Thor in your speedo. |

Sorry for my absence recently, I have had a lot going on. Please include me in the push up challenge, I got the app and did my initial test, but need to do day one still. I'll also do the 27 in 28, however, that may be difficult seeing as I have already lost out on 4 days of that, but I think I can make it. Supposed to be going to Santa Fe for a funeral today, but was up sick most of the night, so I am laying in bed trying to recover. Will hopefully feel better tomorrow and get back to a schedule where I can get my workouts in! Jared - Welcome back! Once again - sorry about the loss of your friend! Feel better soon! |

This was my story last november. I started doing 25 yard lengths, and would doa workout of like 300 yards, and call it good at first. In 10 months, I completed a HIM. 1.2 mile swim and felt good doing it. Hang in there and keep working at it. You've got the right attitude, and it will come in bunches. each week will get better. you may not notice each session, but it will getter better with time in the pool. |

You should be fine swimming a couple of times in a row. during HIM training, I would do 3x per week with a shorter/more difficult speed workout, an intermediate, and a long swim. I used to do 2/3 swims in successive days, and have a bike or run in those two days as well. swimming is the least stressful of the 3 sports, and can also be used as a good recovery workout between run/bike days. |

Alex - I completely agree with Kevin. Last year - I was right where you are. In fact, I was looking at my totals for last January and remembered how tough those first few months were. But by September, I was able to swim 130 lengths (not bragging because it took me forever to get it done). Just letting you know that you can do it! I promise you will get there. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Just checking in... I ate well, did my pushups, and got my run in... I'm enjoying a bowl of ice cream to celebrate. Tomorrow - I'm going to cook up the dish that Bobby and Justin wrote about. I tried it last week and loved it - so I thought I would try something different. Instead of tomatos - I'm going to add spinach, onion, green pepper, mushrooms to about 2 TBS of ginger. Then instead of the salsa I added last time, I'm going to top it off with some soy sauce. I'll let you know how it goes! Tomorrows workout is a 30 minute ride plus more push ups... I might have to have a tasty beverage to celebrate. |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Update: I got my 6.2 miler in today at a slower pace than normal. I took off 8 days or so in the peak of my build for my marathon, and had already started to make concessions for why I may not reach my goal come May. I even thought that I may be able to change down to the HM instead. but then I decided to get off my a_ _ this morning and go for a run. It felt so good, I think I'll do it again tomorrow. The Lower Body injury is still sore, kinda like the deep tissue damage a good bruise from a car wreck can feel like, but I think with some easy runs, I should be able to rehab it and build mileage at the same time. Another 6.2 miler for tomorrow morning and a hockey game tomorrow evening against our arch rivals of the beer league. (should be mildly entertaining for 40-50+ yr. olds.) Feels good to get back out there, it was getting too easy to skip and sleep in. now I must punish myself for my laziness by getting back out there and getting it done. |
