Subject: RE: The "Ultimate COJ Thread About Nothing" Thread # 3Funny story......... I worked for Circuit City for a little bit selling computers. So, I bought one from there, and got the extended service plan because it covers, of all things, electrical surges. If they can't fix it, they replace it with comparable or better. So, I have the computer for about 2 years, decide it's time to upgrade. Remove all the decent stuff I had put in, and proceed (with help from a friend) to plug it into a 220-volt outlet. Sparks shot out of the power supply a good foot, and there was smoke. It was COOL!!!! Then, for good measure, we raked the mother board. It had nice black streaks all over, melty parts..... I take it in to get it fixed or whatever. They said I had to call the tech support guy line to troubleshoot it. I told him what happened, and he insisted on following his script. "Is it plugged in?" Yes...... "OK, press the power button." OK.....surprise, nothing happened. It got hit with lightning. Sparks came out of the power supply. "Well, check to make sure that the connector is plugged in on the motherboard. Can you open the case?" Yes, but it doesn't matter.....Sparks and smoke, remember? "OK, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds." What's that gonna do? OK.....Nothing. "Was that 30 seconds?" Yes, I timed it with my atomic clock........ "Well, sir, I'm afraid we can't fix it, so you can submit it to your local store." Gee, thanks, Scooter...... As for my current issues. Today we'll see if we can get the proxying to work on the production server. |
