kristinc0916 - 2009-03-04 9:24 PM Hmmm. Where's everyone? Logging hours and hours of workouts I guess I was just excited b/c I had a bit of a swimming breakthrough. I figured out how to kick at a specific time and I got my 100 times down a few more seconds. When I kick down with the right foot as my right hand is entering the water, it gives me more propulsion. Same with left side.. This may be how everyone else swims but I just figured it out and got my fastest 100 time 1:38 Im not kicking any harder or any more, just a timing thing. Yippee!

Sweet!

Totally do-able! 2 years ago I couldn't get below 2:00/100 without blowing a gasket. Last year I was in the low to mid 1:50's/100.  It sounds like your coach is great and just little tweaks make a big difference. Actaully, I was trying to "swim in a coffin' like you commented here or in your blog.

I am hoping to get sub 1:50/100 in next couple months...my goal is 1:30 IM swim.

That would rock...after being around 1:53-1:55/100 for all out effort for 3 years I'm ready to get faster.

I do think I am faster but now am still focusing on technique improvement. When I go hard all my old bad habits come back.

Next swim I'll be doing is in Panama...we are staying at a nice resort hotel with 1/2 mile private beach..hope to do some ows. While there I want to see a rain forest, do zip line tour, rent a bike, ows, run and have a relaxing time with my husband. It will be about 15 hours of travel time each way though...argh.

Have a great long weekend everyone! I'm still not sure if I'm bringing my lap top or not.

BigDH - 2009-03-01 11:45 AM Like I said things are going well.  Brielle is sleeping quite a bit so we are too.  However, I think I am going to conserve my energy for a bit.

I love looking at baby pictures, especially newborn baby pictures, and happy mama and papa pictures too.  Just wonderful.

Im doing my *its a couple of days before the race and my body is rebelling on me* freak out...

The shin splints are playing up... just on one leg but if walking around is painful I have NO IDEA how running is going to be Sunday...

Im kind of hoping I will somehow get through it issue free... at least the run is only half the distance of the last race!

I know its all about CG doing well since Ive been helping him but Im hoping to finish the season on a high... and not too much slower than him! (even though he could out bike me with one leg!)

I just wanted to throw this out. I got into this discussion the other night and thought I would poll my Mentor Group friends.

Do you prefer large or small races and why?

I am slow and so I like bigger races because then I know I won't be last.  I do this community 10K in December and in 2007 I was last and I survived the experience, but I was sure glad I wasn't last in 2008.  I think that was the only time I was ever dead last.  Even my HIM that I did in 2003 where I was woefully underprepared for the bike, I don't think I was last.

I also like bigger races because I can always find someone to chat with.  Smaller races seem to have lots of people who are doing it with friends and there is no one to talk to.  (Isn't that just about the saddest thing you have ever heard???  Pitiful me.)  No one in my group of friends, including my family and boyfriend, does these races, and so it is kinda nice to find someone to chat with while running or waiting for the thing to start or whatever.

I wish I had read this before my swim this morning.  I will try it - if I can remember it until next Tuesday!!!  I worked very hard on technique in January and February with the goal of getting my 100's down to 2:30 (far cry from your 1:38), but this is with a starting speed of 2:50.  Now that it is March, my 100's are in the 2:37-2:40 range and I am kinda bummed.  So, I am faster, but I am still the slowest bloomin' person in the pool.  I can't wait to try this tip.

Tammy! Ummmm, this mentor thread is full of wickedly stubborn asthmatics who refuse to let that silly disease ruin our training and lives.

Thanks everyone!  It is wierd looking at those pictures.  Kathy, don't you just look at your old pictures and think "not going there again".  It keeps me working hard, that's for sure!  My daughter Carrie didn't really remember how big I was and her comment at seeing them was "Mom, YOU WERE FAT"

Hey guys,

Checking in, things are going good.  Clearly I am getting no excercise.  A bit of yoga here and there but that is it.  I am fine with it for the most part.  Frankly, hanging out with the family is way cooler and more fun then I thought it would be.  I will get back to it.

Hope everyone else is doing well.  Have a great weekend!
