thanks for mentioning me hilde. Hope you're all doing well in the heat over there.

Andrea - have fun volunteering.

I'm thinking I may finally bite the bullet and contact the local bike group.

Getting excited for my race this Sunday!  It will actually be my first tri this season b/c the one I did on June 2nd ended up being changed to a duathlon.  I'm excited to SWIM!!!  This is my "A" race this season, so I'm hoping things go well.  Just trying to beat my time from last year and I think my new bike will help me out in a big way!  This race is special to me b/c it was my very first tri experience when I raced it last year and it also raises $$$ for juvenile diabetes, which I've had for almost 30 years.  So it's a great race and for a great cause!!  I know quite a few people who will be racing it too.  Can't wait for the race and the party afterwards!!    Looks like it will be PERFECT racing weather -- high of 82, low humidity.  Just hoping my right shin cooperates - it has been sore for the past couple of weeks. As long as it gets me through this Sunday's race, I will repay it with LOTS and LOTS of REST!!  Good luck to Michelle and Erin, too!!

Hilde, glad I read the last four words of your post above because at first glance I pictured a triathlete lighting up a cigarette...or a doobie, lol!

Good luck to all the other racers tomorrow!  My pre-race jitters are in full effect!  My sprint tri tomorrow is a pool swim and my turtle-like 400 time seeds me at 200, so I will be standing in line for over an hour.  Not good when it's supposed to be in the mid-90's tomorrow.  Anyway, looking fwd to wearing the new helmet and using the new aero-drink system we put on my bike.  Sleep wil not come easy tonight:-)

Hope the rest of you get in some solid training and relaxation over the weekend!

Longest ride to date was today. It was a 90 minute ride. I rode an out and back, but turned too early. I added a mini out and back to the end of the ride to get the time in. I should have looked at distance, too, as I ended up with 19.5 miles. I feel pretty good. Im tired but that could also be the poor sleep that I got last night.

Good luck tomorrow, racers! Get out there and smoke 'em! I'm going to be up with the birds to challenge myself with a big hill climb. It's "Silent Sunday" at the nearby mountain park, where roads are closed to cars, so it's the best time to ride there. I've been avoiding it, because I'm not a good climber, but it's time to get over myself, suck it up, and get up that hill! 1200 feet over five miles- shouldn't be too bad, right? Hope everybody has a good weekend!

Good luck racing people.

Erin - stay cool please

Actually managed 6 mins of running today, 0.29 miles. That's an official PR run. Starting to think I'm selling myself seriously short on the run intervals of my run/walks.

Oh and I did back to back 150s in swimming.

That is a HUGE milestone, well done!  Suzie, same to you.  Some great accomplishments going on here.  And Tammy, you must be a glutton for punishment!  I thought 400 feet in 2 miles was bad.  I think I'd choose a night in Bubba's cell at the state pen before your mountain challenge.  Wow...

So, my race is over.  2nd overall female so pretty pumped, especially since it is a fairly big race and probably the biggest tri in our city.  I missed the win by under 2 minutes, and the winner beat me by 2+ minutes in the swim so we know where there is room for improvement.  Still, I was pretty happy with my swim.  Firat time I did not panic in the pool.  My bike was decent and my run was a little on the lethargic side, but my shin feels great!  DH just missed his first podium finish by 6 seconds, so he had a FABULOUS race even though he is kicking himself.  I'll post more in the race log, but I am just on a great buzz right now after having a good race and spending a sunny morning with some of the nicest triathlon friends ever.  Can't wait to hear aboutour other racers!

And another awesome race from our MMMer Erin!!!  2nd OA female... dang I don't know how you do it!!  I'm lucky to keep pace with the other old ladies, ha ha, and overall placement wouldn't have happened even if I WAS tri'ing when I was younger!  Can't wait for the race report...

Way to kick butt at your tri today, Erin!  Congrats on your 2nd OA placement, woohoo!!

So I'm having a pity party over here...  I raced 2 minutes SLOWER than last year!  They had my pace at 2:40/100 yards on the swim which I just can NOT believe!  I have never swam that slow and felt like I was doing pretty well, grrr...  I'm choosing to believe that the swim was definitely greater than .25 miles and there was a pretty good current going in the ocean.  Denial is my best friend today, haha!

My bike was fine.  And then my run was a total sufferfest.  My shin didn't hurt but the heat beat my a$$ down and HARD!  Walked a hill and ran easily a minute/mile slower than I should have.  My wave was the absolute LAST to go off - the elites were crossing the finish line before our wave even started our swim.  And that meant that we were on the run course at high noon.  It was friggin' HOT!    Lots of sun/little shade...  So sorry for my sob story, I did have fun, I just don't know what happened out there other than I blew up on the run and maybe should have pushed harder on the swim??

Next plan is to rest the shin some more.  It didn't bother me during the run but is screaming at me now.  I have another sprint lined up for July 8th that I'm doing in NY with my little sister, so there is no pressure with that one.  I really will just get out there and HAVE FUN!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!  Thanks for letting me vent!!

Wow - so much to catch up on...

Louise, I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow! And I hope you've had a good start to your Century ride training.

Andrea, I hope you and your son enjoyed volunteering. I did it once last year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Erin.... WOW!!! That was a killer race. I am looking forward to reading the race report sometime this week, but in the meantime, way to kick butt!

Kristen, sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your race. I'm sure I'd be upset if I was slower in the same race too. Unfortunately, we all have our off days, and it sucks big time when it's on race day. Will try to give some love post-race report too.

Tammy, hope you're still alive after "the climb." Laughing No envy here!

My race went well. The race report is up and accessible through my training blog for those who are interested. I was really pleased with my race overall, although despite my advances in the running world, I am still light years behind "the big dogs."

I hope to be a bit more participatory here too - my iPad arrived today (the geek in me is so stoked!), so I no longer have to sit at the desk to type a message. Smile

Hope all is well!

Hey all!  I know I'm a little behind here but wanted to say Congrats to those that raced this past weekend!  Everyone did really well!

Summer heat has started to settle in here.  Near record highs predicted for the next week or so and no rain in sight.  We could really use some too.  In fact, Saturday morning would be a great time for a nice rainshowerSmile.  I'm doing a 10k that morning and not looking forward to the 80*+ at start time.  I was originally hoping to try for a PR at this race but now I think I'll be happy with just finishing it.

Hope everyone's having a good week!

Drive-by hi everyone: after a decadent week with my sister in London (including our traditional Thames-side picnic from Harrods food halls on her birthday!), I'm now settled here in Oxford and have managed to log my last couple of days properly. Will get caught up on logging and everyone's awesome doings over the weekend when I won't be juggling teaching, meetings, grocery shopping, and training the way I did today. (I admit it: I'm tired!) More soon, no doubt-- but know that I'm cheering you all on from over here!

Some updates...

Life updates-Unfortunately we had to put our dog down on Monday.  It's such a sad, strange feeling for me in our house.  I miss her deep brown eyes, crooked ears and happy disposition that lasted almost until her last day.  My son is doing pretty well with it.  His camp and swim team started this week so he's been preoccupied.

We'll be out of town for 2 weeks, staying with my mother and step-father at the shore.  Only swim training should be limited.  Strange, but I'm not sure I'll get in much swimming...

Tri updates-I'm officially signed up for 2 sprints (8/3 and 9/9).  I've been doing pretty well following an intermediate sprint plan I found on trinewbies.  It is time based and encourages lower HR training.  I'm on week 8 I think, but I'm going to ease up on the HR restrictions on my shorter runs.  (I've been run/walking to keep below 140ish.  I'm going to set my garmin to let me know when I go over 160 instead.)  Then in a week or 2 I'll do the same with my medium run.  Since I've been biking more, I feel like my legs want to go faster on the run.  I'm not sure if it's a fitness thing or if its from the higher cadence on the bike, but I'll take it!

Hey Guys!!!!  I just wanted to do a quick drive by here to let you guys know that I'm okay... I'm surviving and getting better emotionally and physically.  I've been very very busy trying to establish a new home as quickly as possible, getting going in a new role at work and spending time with my kids in-between... So, I just haven't had a ability to get on here given my priorities... But this weekend I actually have Sat and Sunday to myself and I plan on reading the posts and getting some perverted comments going.. haha..

I really really want to thank you guys for all the private messages and inspires - they are very much appreciated and it's nice to know I have a cyber support network as well.  I promise you - I'm not done - I'm gonna train like crazy after my collar bone heals and get ready for a HIM next year.. For now the broken collarbone is a mixed blessing... I've been so stressed with my new life that trying to SBR would have only made things worse.... I'm very thankful for my situation as I believe I will come out ahead!!!  So, off to bed and then a boy scout camp out with my son Friday night... Chat at you guys Saturday.....

Again, thanks for being there guys.. I will not forget it and hope to pay it back in some way in the future.  And BTW I will be at Waco!!!!  Cheering you guys on..and building more face to face relationships....

Later!!!

Janet - hope you had a great race this morning!

Kristen - hope you get some good news from the doctor soon regarding your shin.

Andrea - so sorry to hear about your dog. I put my beagle down nearly three years ago, and I still think about, and miss her terribly. My heart goes out to you and your family. On a happier note, nice job on the training. Stick with it and you'll certainly be ready for that first race in August!

Wilson - nice to see you're still with us and am glad to hear you are on the mend!

As for me, I received approval for the short sale on my house this week. Which is really good news, except now I have to spend time hunting for a new place to live, packing up both my house and my boyfriend's apartment and then moving. We currently live 70 miles apart so this is going to take some doing! This is also going to throw a big fat monkey wrench into my training/racing plan, but I'll make it work!

I'm off to start the grand process of the pre-move purge right now - my garbage men are going to love me next week. Laughing

Happy weekend everyone!
Michelle

Here is some finish line video from last week's IM CdA. I shared this in a couple other places, and I wanted you guys to see it; it highlights what makes this sport special. Morning everyone!  Hope you all had a good weekend!  Hot here but I'm starting to at least get used to it.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see cooler temps, or even a little rain Smile.  I had a good race on Saturday morning.  The start was a little disorganized but overall the run went well.  I took it slow but finished pretty close to my expected time and felt good afterwards.  This was originally supposed to be a goal race for me - trying to get that sub-60 10k time - but

I think I've changed my mind about my tri in August.  I was going to do Fenton on the 4th, but I think I'm going to go with Alligator's Creek on the 19th instead.  Its closer to home, I've done it before (and volunteered there several times) so I know the course, and it gives me an extra 2 weeks to get ready.  I've had some issues with my right shoulder lately, which is why I haven't been to the pool but it's starting to feel better.  It's a short pool swim - only 300yds - but I don't want to start out the tri with problems.  Hopefully the extra 2 weeks of healing will help.

Have a great week and a safe holiday!

Janet2

I'm back!!  Arrived home @ 3:00am last night to no power.  Storms from last Friday night wreaked havoc throughout the area.  So spent the morning emptying the fridge before heading into work.

I'm ready to get back to training.  First run in over two weeks will be tomorrow.

Will take me some time to catch up on all the posts.

Will post a few pics later today.

Tammy, just keep thinking and focusing about this moment. You will keep thinking/dreaming during your training sessions about Mike Reilly saying "you are an Ironman!!" And to have it happen in real time is the best feeling.....

Keep up all the good training everyone, I know it's HOT out there, be smart, stay hydrated!
