Nice job Kim, Chris & Bryan!  I am starting to get the itch to do another race here soon.

I got in a 12.75 mile trail run today and the weather was absolutely perfect.  I have never seen so many people on the trails in the middle of July let alone February...crazy weather this year.

41 miles of running this week so happy with that.

Close game right now in the Super Bowl...should be a nice ending.

Nice!

sicone - 2012-02-06 4:54 AM Congrats to all who raced over the weekend!
Seems it's my turn to be ill. There's a nasty bug going round at the moment and I've well and truely caught it. Resting heart rate of 105 and most of the night being sick means all training is off for now

Feel better!!!  I know that feeling and my wife is just getting over it again!!

Looks like a lot of great performances from people over the weekend.  Nice job everyone who races and/or had a great training day.  I had an absolutely horrible run this morning.  How can 9 miles feel so good on Saturday and 3 so awful this morning.  I'm not sure if it is just my head screwing with me or not but I made the mistake of reading the label on some antibiotics I just got put back on and one of the warnings was it makes people prone to bursting tendons.  I'll be talking to my Dr. today, who is a runner, and making sure this is going to be ok for a short term period.

Congrats Chris, Kim and Bryan!

I finally got out on my mountain bike AND my tri bike this weekend! Got in a nice trail run, too! Got the scrapes and bruises to prove it.

I spectated a CrossFit competition, which was pretty interesting. I used to think triathletes loved compression and stressed over nutrition, but now...

You probably didn't recover from Saturday's run. Conditioning as related to consistently of running. You run often but then all of sudden you ran a longer distance. Then relate that to your previous week when you ran 8 miles. Your training progress fatigue becomes more of a factor and we are back to recovery.

Swim (done) and a run for me today.  Suppose to be a bike according to my schedule but I finally realized I just have to get that off my swim day if I want to get my intended duration in.

Shoulder has been hurting me in the pool lately.  Only one but that leads me to believe I have a form issue.  It only starts hurting part way through the swim.  I'm thinking it is due to dropping my elbow so I'm working on that.  That is the side that I notice I have more issues holding form on when I turn to breath on the opposite side.

I ate well yesterday.  Not crazy, but well.  And of course some fattening food (mostly in the form of cream cheese) and went to bed pretty full.  And yet this morning I am starved.  I think the body plays tricks on you when you overeat one day.  It wants that same amount the next day and gives you false hunger signals.  Which is why it is better to eat consistently day to day.  Just like training....  That's my theory anyways.

Thanks all, and congrats Kim!!!!

Have a question re aerobar bottle placement.  I bought the frame speedfil then went ahead and bought the A2 aerobar bottle as I had a GC to a tri shop.  I have ski bends so could never really mount the bottle up front until now as I wouldn't be able to get it out of the cage.  The question is where to put the A2.  Originally I thought about a cage zip tied to the stem, but that seems very high up, and is at an angle as my stem slopes back down towards me.  For yesterday's ride I simply reseted it between the aero bars and then secured it with an old chip stap and a velcro strap, valve toward me so the flat end of the bottle was sticking out just at the bottom of the upturned bars.  I am assuming this is not very aero, since the bottle is not behind my arms mounted this way and the flat end is out in the wind.  But being on the stem is seems so high?

Thoughts?  I can post pics later if needed.  I really like the concept and it made drinking much easier for me.  Just need to work out the details

I'd love to be able to have the cool straight bar look and just mount the bottle on top of the aerobar extensions but I tried those bars and they were just too uncomfortable.  Speaking of which, anyone want to buy a barely used Planet X carbon aero bar?

Misery loves company. I felt something coming on Fri at work and it was full force by Sat afternoon. The doc says I caught a flu bug and should stay down and out until at least Thur. So training has been a bust. I can't recall the last time I was sick, It stinks. Hopefully can get back to it this weekend.

Get well and rest up!

Today is a recovery day for me.  I got up early and did an EZ ride on the trainer this morning to get my legs moving.  The legs are not overly sore but a long run on the trails takes some time to get back to good.

Question for the group RE: racing.  Do you like to race alot during the course of season or just target a couple each year?  I find that I like to do running races quite a bit during the offseason.  Triathlon I usually target 2 "A" races each year with maybe 3 other "B" races along the way.  I know some people that race tri's 10-12 per season.  Mentally that would just fry me as I try to be my best at each race whether I am tapered or not.

I race as much as my wife will let me.

Mostly by season, Bike in spring, Tri in summer and Cyclocross in fall.  It becomes racing for 9 months, and is mentally fatiguing.

But man do i love to race!!!

I don't race a lot.  I have to travel for all my tri races and given that my partner is away more then here that really adds to the complexity, especially with all the pets.  I wouldn't necessarily have to travel far but it's just not worth the hassle for me so I pick one or two races to do.   I do more running races though.  I love the simplicity of them and of course there are more local ones to do.

What is a lot of races?

I had 0 races in 11’ before that 4-6 triathlons per year.

In the Mid 80’ 4-6 Tri’s, 3-6 Road races and 8-15’ish cycling races per year.

The most I've raced in one season is 4 races...did it in my first two seasons...then only raced 3 times in 2011 and also did a tri relay.

I would like to be able to 1) afford to race more (which includes travel) and 2) not be limited to just a 4-month window where it is feasible to race. Ideally, I would like to be able to try 6-7 races in a season and see if I like racing that much. In my mind, 2 HIM, 2 OLY and 2-3 sprints would be a good schedule.
