Not a great night for a track meet but got to watch son run first outdoor meet of the season. Off to a good start with a 14:55 5k finishing 5th of 40. Getting up for an early long run then lunch with son before heading home |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED I finished! 39:15 swim, 3:54:18 bike, and 1:35:25 run/walk/climb/swim/slide, lol! I am STOKED. Last year's swim was 46 minutes. I was so happy to come out of that water in that time. It gave me confidence on the bike. I finished the bike almost 20 minutes before cut-off time! I did crash and land on my left elbow 4x, and ran straight into a low branch, biting my tongue. Rang my bell! Thank you so much for all the support, the kind words, and the tips! This mentor group has been a huge help getting me to the finish on this. |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Thanks, guys! That was actually 2:54:18 on the bike, not 3 hours. So proud of my 1500m swim! Swimming in the choppy waters for 3 weeks made the swim in calm waters today so comfortable. My sighting was much, much better this time around. I'll actually do a report this time. Hope you're having a great weekend! Oh, being the only one in my age group, I qualified for Maui World Championships! So cool! |

Veteran 350 Central VA | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED slornow - 2013-03-22 8:05 PM Spring? I'm sitting at track meet at univ of Alabama. 47 cold windy and damp. Ugh! I thought it was supposed to be warmer down there. My wife is in Huntsville shooting a wedding today. I checked the local weather and it looks just like our VA weather. Doing a lot of inside training but I'm itching to get outside. Planning on putting on my cold weather gear and tough out a bike ride today. #ComeOnSpring |

Master 3058 South Alabama | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Scott-It will get better soon...maybe only a couple of weeks until it feels like you are swimming again Stick with it....consistency is key. I'm headed out for long ride and 20 minute brick run. Its warm, wet, humid and suppose to be breezy....good practice for Galveston 70.3 two weeks from today (ooh, just scared myself with the thought of it being only 2 weeks away). Put race wheels on last night so I could get a test ride on them outside before my sprint next Saturday. Anybody do an NCAA bracket? If so, you have to be doing better than me! |

Master 2177 | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED So, got the OK from husband to train for and go to Xterra World Championships in Maui! We're hoping financing it will be possible. Airfare alone is around $1500. My parents have offered help as well. I think I just might do it! Awesome job keeping up the training, guys! Can't wait to hear how the races went. This is me pre-race at the start and finish. I was feeling good! Edited by Blanda 2013-03-24 7:35 AM |

That feeling of returning after a break alone should be motivation enough to keep it up. I remember it and it sucks, lol! Way to get out there! |

Extreme Veteran 990 Collierville, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Jason- I did a bracket, and I still have most of my teams going deep still in it, but there have been some crazy upsets I didn't call, of course. Blanda-I hope you get to do the Maui race, that would be once-in-a-lifetime, I bet! Well, the weather that I was worried about turned out to be a pretty big problem, as they cancelled the race altogether. So, this day is a real bummer now. Long run later, but my heart definitely isn't in it... |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Sorry that I haven't been posting regularly.Over the last week we learned that what I thought was ITBS was actually a lateral meniscus tear with a few other possible complications. The tear was from moving basketball goals in January. Denial and HTFU has worked for the avoiding the reality of the situation for the last few months. Right now my knee doesn't hurt unless I try to move laterally. The swelling, locking and other symptoms are gone- thanks to meds. Tomorrow I meet with the orthopedic surgeon to schedule surgery. We're hoping that it can be scheduled as quickly as possible (Thursday) to get this taken care of. Randy and Jason have been very supportive the last few weeks/months. Coming to terms with different aspects of what this injury could mean long term has been difficult. I'm hoping that things will go well and it will be a straight forward knee recovery. Sooooo it looks like this year will be a swim/bike focus. I'm hoping to be able to salvage part of the season. |

Veteran 330 Denton | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Blanda - First of all great job on your race and congratulations on making the World Championships! I think I have to look into an Xterra race because it looks like a lot of fun. Rene - Sorry to hear about your injury. Injuries suck and it seems like at some point we all get them no matter how much we watch out. Heal fast .... I thought I was done with the cold weather but today was insane ... at some points during my ride I averaged 11mph. Winds like I never felt before on the bike. I literally was almost blown of the bike a couple times ... aero bars today ... not happening ... but in the grand scheme of things ... another week of workouts completed ... Can't wait for the warmer weather. |

Master 3205 ann arbor, michigan | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Michael, you really should try an xterra. I have only done one because they have been hard to find and fit in to the schedule, but the one that I did was a total blast. Really fun and it seemed like a lower-key environment. People tell me that the vibe of xterra races is a lot like triathlon in the early days...... Blanda, love the new picture as well. Looking tough. All the training is obviously paying off for you. Rene, you are going to get through this. It sucks! But I have the feeling that you are going to power through and come out stronger when it is all done. I had another good run today. I won't say it was nice because it really hurt for the whole thing. I never got in to that zone where I felt good running. Some days are like that and I think on those days you are toughening up your mental muscles as much as the physical machine. Had a short swim lesson today also. Coach kept asking what was wrong with me because I looked so much worse than my last session with her. Again, one of those days. |

I hope it goes smoothly and you're able to get back to it real soon. Now, trying to figure out a training plan for Maui. Edited by Blanda 2013-03-24 4:29 PM |

Master 3058 South Alabama | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Blanda-Xterra looks like so much fun...in a tortured kind of way. Maui would be an amazing experience. Hope it works out for you. Finished my long ride...70 miles and short brick run...2.65 miles this morning. It was really breezy. I could feel the wind pushing me a bit since I had my race wheels on. Its always fun to get the wheels out when race time comes around and give them a test ride. Measurable increase in speed as well. Here is my bike ready to race! So, this day is a real bummer now. Long run later, but my heart definitely isn't in it... Since I was scheduled to also be in that race, I too, felt the disappointment at its cancellation. My fiance and her mother even came down to give their support. They said they'd be sending out a notice later on how we might be able to get credit for a future event. I imagine it won't cover the whole thing due to the fact that I still got a nice shirt out of it :) Edited by leechj 2013-03-24 5:48 PM |

Member 2098 Simsbury, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group-CLOSED Had a GREAT Saturday. Ran my first 5k since going on the DL last July. It was the Sandy Hook benefit - so me and 14,999 of my closest friends ran for a good cause. I could not have gone faster because of the crowd and I ran with my cousin and a friend. Our official time was 30:58. I'm confident I could have gone much faster in a race situation so I'm just thrilled. Randy - oh MAN Glad that clamp cracked on the stand rather than under your butt though! Also I LOVE the LG shorts!! We get to the outlet 1 or 2 times a year right at the US factory in Newport, VT. I buy their top of the line compression cycling shorts for more than half off. It's usually because of some stitching or color error that they end up there but it's way cool - enjoy! Oh and I'm a Subie owner (DH TOO!) How do I get on that team ? Mary good luck with the puppy! Our 2nd dog was 2.5 and she was ALL puppy but the good news was it didn't last too long. They are a handful! Awesome job Blanda! I was hoping to come here and find your race report. OMG THE CHAMPIONSHIPS in Maui?! GO GO GO! Noted, Scott - I'll kick your if you decide to skip the swim Rene - my husband just had his second acl reconstruction and both lateral and medial menisci were torn and repaired. I let him have a week of depression over what it meant to his running schedule but after that all you can do is look forward, do all the physical therapy they'll let you and just concentrate on getting better. The tough part for him (and you I suspect) is keeping you from doing too much too soon. You'll do great after surgery, I'm sure! So my birthday has passed and I have a stack of gift certificates...... really? No suggestions on what I should buy? I also have a 2xu coupon for $35 off $70 so I was thinking about getting a pair of tri shorts from them. Anyone have them? I see a lot of people wearing them so I might give em a shot. 3 more busy weeks to go at work and then I'm a free woman! Just keep swimming......just keep swimming.... |
