Made it to the pool and felt great! Did an IronFit workout I did on day #1 of training and knocked it out of the park. Held my paced, recovered well, breathed bilaterally and even did a few flip turns! Awesome workout ! 139/400

Finally got some answers about masters swim class this morning, so Wednesday is my goal. I'm gonna get to the pool at 0-dark-30 (aka 5:30am) and give it a whirl!

Let me make this easy for you. You can either go and have a great time at your master's swim class or just add some coors light to your morning smoothy. Simple choice right?

Seriously - I know you will make it happen!

Happy Monday! My "rest" day. I had a PT appt today and did some weight training as well.
Yesterday I went to the pool instead of doing another elliptical session in lieu of running. I didn't feel great after an hour on the elliptical on Friday so bag it. Me PT recommended I try a short, easy jog/walk outside - more natural motion than the elliptical, so tomorrow I'll give it a go!
I was pretty good over this last week doing an hour of something - trainer, elliptical, or swimming -everyday, so hopefully I haven't lost too much fitness.
Tomorrow I'll try to get back to my swim training plan - but 3200 yds might be too much right off, I'll see how I feel.
Next weekend we head south for vaca so no biking then - hoping I can run, and will definitely swim - against the current in a huge lazy river - I've done it before and it crushes me! Hahaha
Off to bed!

Sure is quiet on a university campus at 6am on a Monday morning.

Hope everyone had great training weekends!

Hard to say no to a run in Gorgeous Weather We are still struggling with the polar vortex and while our winter was relatively great - our spring has sucked.

Enjoy!

Blah. Don't know if it's the lousy weather or what, but I'm feeling especially unmotivated this week (after the total opposite last week). New shoes should arrive tomorrow or Thursday, and hopefully they'll break the funk.

There is nothing like taking a new pair of shoes out for a test drive - what kind did you get?

No worries about the mid week funk - the weather had blown chunks. Good think all the Florida people have left the group so we don't have to see picturesof paradise. Speaking of - looking forward to that Jack's Abby after the Season Opener. Maybe we can still convince Jenn to come down. Maybe. But if she can't - we'll have one (or two) for her.

Just went for a two mile lunch "run" (one minute walk/one minute run) and felt really good. WIth a PT session today, I'm gonna say things are looking up for Mr. Injured.

Speaking of looking up, I've left 5 inspires so far this month. Don't forget our inspire challenge where we are each going to see if we can leave at least 10 inspires for people. Hopefully that little message inspired you to leave some inspires.

Have a great week!

Ya know, March started out Spring so nicely, and  then April came and it started snowing again.

We've been two years ago, but the boys were 6 & 8 then. My now 10 year old is reading the Harry Potter series and he is consumed with all things Harry Potter. We didn't plan on going, but due to his excitement, we changed plans...unfortunately that also meant springing for the Hogwarts train ride for the park to park passes. He will LOVE it though, so I'm psyched. It would be a hoot to run into you there. I may pop up here and let you know which days we'll be there.

3200 yards at the pool - back on my swim plan (hopefully not too much too soon)
RAN MY FIRST RUN SINCE THE BACK WENT OUT! Had to put that in caps. okay, so it was only a 2 mile easy run with a minute walk in there, but we'll see how the back feels tomorrow. I generally felt kind of crappy but i had just come from the pool, needed food and was probably dehydrated, so I accept that.

Masters swim class in the books!! Had a good swim--a little longer of a break between sets than I'm used to, but overall, nice workout. Now I just have to figure out how to rearrange my training schedule to swim first. For the last two years I've done my run or bike early in the morning and then swum later in the day. Also need to work out nutrition--I was HUNGRY by the end of the class! (142/400).

Did a bike/run pseudo brick yesterday after work. Pseudo brick because it was supposed to be a real brick, but when I went outside for the run, my new neighbors' (moved in over the weekend) dogs were out. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get them back into their yard before the run, so it wasn't quite a brick, but I had good intentions!

Jenn and Gretchen - Congrats on the great swims! I need to get on your level!

Mike and Jenn - Super jealous of your pending Harry Potter adventures! I was there the year it opened (it was a madhouse!). Definitely try the frozen butterbeer. I know it's not the type of beer we usually talk about in this group, but it is SO GOOD (or at least my 25 year old self thought so).

Went on a Shack Track and Field run last night. This is an organized run I've done before, through Shake Shack, that then encourages me to drink beer and eat a burger and their delicious custard...which of course I did. I had their Shackmeister Ale, which is quite good, followed by a burger, some fries and a Salty Balty (amazingness). This was all after a mediocre run. I pulled my glute over the weekend and it has apparently not healed at all, as it started bothering me immediately. I was running with some friends who were doing the 5 mile loop, but they were running 11 minute pace at the faster points. I think a faster pace might've stretched it out more, but at that pace I decided to break off at 3 miles and try to save my bum a little. Gonna do a workout at home this evening that involves some yoga/foam rolling...not sure exactly what yet. Also need to really start doing those hip strengthening exercises, as I think my weak hip is related to my glute pain.

Still going strong on MFP! Was a little over my calorie goal last night thanks to Shake Shack, but mostly have been under and am feeling a lot better. Huge thanks to DQ for coming up with this motivation!

New shoes! New Balance Vazee Pace on the left, NB Zante on the right. Both lightweight and low drop, just how I like 'em. Of course they arrived about an hour after I finished my run for the day, so the test run will have to wait for tomorrow for me to decide which pair to keep. Although maybe that was a good thing - it was absolutely beautiful today, and I'm not sure I would have been able to keep myself from wearing them out in the mud.

I made it back from Nashville somewhat alive. That was one tough week. We trained hard all week. I was riding with guys 15lbs lighter than me and with FTPs in the 350-400 watt range. They're tiny little beasts.. Then on Saturday we did the Hell of the South Road race. I was dropped on the big gravel climb and chased with 3 other guys. I was putting in monster 400-420 watt pulls but cracked within arms reach of the pack. The next day was the Cedar Hill Crit. I lasted until the final 7 laps and was shot out the back. After the crit I had to get in my car an drive 19 hours back to Ottawa to get my teammate to his exam. I went 36 hours without sleep which included a bike race and a non-stop 19 hour drive (which I did solo, the kid riding with me couldn't drive). I've been lying on the couch watching movies for the last two days with a fuzzy head and jelly legs... I have a race on Sunday. I hope I feel recovered. This season is going to be a brutal one. I miss cat 3.

That's some serious riding.

Just imagine what the TdF riders do, for 19 out of 21 days.  But then again they don't have to drive themselves 19 hours either LOL.

Well, I've managed to join the injured here.  Left knee is swollen and weak - probably patella tendon issue as that area is really irritated (as in hot to the touch).  Advil, ice, and some topical cortisone cream, plus I've totally shut down any lower body work for a few days.

At least I'll get my butt to the pool.
