Had a great 80 mile ride today.  Looking forward to a reduced mileage week and then heading down to PCB the next!  Bike going into the shop for a pre race tune-up and new rubber and tubes, want to get it back for a check ride before dropping it off for TriBike Transport next weekend.

Not sure exactly how close Panama Shores is to race start to decide if going back to room or hanging out at the beach after bike set up.

It is getting close!

That's probably a good prediction.  I doubt they will send it out today just coming off the weekend.  However, you never know so I am going to keep checking.Wink

Ok, I just had a OMG moment. As of today when anyone asks you when your race is you no longer need to quote a date or the number of months or days you have left. Instead, when someone asks you when your race is the answer will be NEXT WEEK!!!!!!

Just wanted to say thank you to those who posted their lists. I am making my list ( and checking it a million times.) All suggestions are welcome. I love the suggestion of tums!

On my morning run today, I  put my foot on the side of the sidewalk and almost rolled my ankle. no harm was done, but I scared myself with the possibility of injury. I'm sooo paranoid for injury right now!

I was placing tums/rolaids, Imodium AD, Advil in each of my bags (t1,t2, SN Bike, SN Run) My wife got me some individual packets at the clinic where she works...all just in case...no big deal if I do not use them...

Last year it was pancake flat.  2006 not so much.  If its wavy I'll give you a lesson on swimming in waves

In lieu of taking the time to brush your teeth, I suggest some mints..I love the Newman's Own ginger mints..good for the belly and kind of nice to suck on for a change..peppermint works well too

What would you suggest taking if one were to, oh, swallow a "bit" of salt water?  Would tums help settle a potential upset stomach?

Tums might work.....last year I ate 1/2 an uncrustable on y way out of the tent to my bike to get the salt taste out and load in  a few simple carbs.  Worked really well for me but I have an iron stomach.  Janelle (runnergirl) uses a starburst chew to get the taste out.

Think of it like this.  You are going to be in a wet suit (hopefully) and swimming in salt water.  It is going to be 10x easier than swimming in a pool.  I just spent a weekend swimming in Bermuda (no wet suit) and got back in my pool and felt like a lead weight slugging through the water!!  The salt water is a huge bonus.  Yes it tastes a little bad, but hey you wont need as many electrolytes

The waves you wont be able to do much about if by chance we have them, but with it being a rectangular course, if the waves or current is in your face one way it will be pushing you along on the way back!

I am not a swimmer, and it was one of my weakest events, so this year I did a number of big swimming events, to force myself into all types of swimming conditions and experiences.  I have found with all of them that the anticipation or what I made them out to be in my mind were much worse than the reality.

I have a dumb question, what happens if the waves are too large or the riptide is too bad they close the beach.  Do we do a long Duathlon or just start on the bike??  I have had 4 people ask me and have no idea.  I know steelhead in Michigan turned a 1/2 into a 1.2 mile run instead of the swim.

No idea but I'll be REALLY pissed if they make me run more.  In 2006 they had 5-6 foot waves and we swam so I dont' know what the criteria is.  I think a couple of the races overseas have had canceled swims and the made it a bike-run

Can you dive under a 6' wave with a wetsuit on or do you just float ontop as it crashes down.  That would be pretty fun coming in but suck going out.  I'm with you I hate running, to make it fair it would have to be a 1hr or so run.

We just went up and over.  The first loop was not bad the second was not fun.  The waves were more a factor out deep than in close.  Its was not an issue getting in and out of the water.  Could not see the buoys across the top unless you were on the top of a wave and the current was tough coming back in.

I would hate to run more too.  If they cancelled the swim and made it a Bike/Run, what does the announcer say when you cross the finish line, "Joe Athlete, you are an Ironman minus the swim!"   Or "Ironman 138.2" Don't remember seeing those stickers for sale....
