JasenGuy - 2012-11-07 11:59 PM I am not going to the Tribe meet-up, but there's no way I'm missing the Triple Sports one on the 15th...Lindsy Corbin will be there and I think she's finally going to get her chance to ask me out. I just know she wanted to when she passed me in Boise, but I was really busy...

Hate to break it to you, but I'll be there and already sent her an email with pictures of my hotel-room shrine to her, complete with candles and a sponge she used on the course in Kona that I bought on ebay.  She'll be too impressed with me to notice you.

I am having an absolute blast here in Tempe!  I was talked out of the a tough grand canyon hike, but I still went running and mountain biking in Sedona.  OK, getting on a mountain bike for the first time ever and hitting the a trail called "Deadman Pass" was stupid right before my first Ironman, but so much fun and the scenery was amazing!

Today I think is a 90 min/30 min brick.  Then it's bike maintenance day after I use up the daylight exploring Downtown Tempe - I've been busy exploring everything else all week!

Ha! I got sucked in by Sedona as well. I absolutely love it there. The first time I was there was the day before a marathon. I went for a "hike". All day on the trails and of course I couldn't resist running a few miles while out there. Paid for it severely the next day but it was SO worth it

I just looked at a different weather site, this is what that one says for the 18th:

high 76, low 57, winds 8 mph

another says:  ?partly cloudy, high 81, winds 5 mph

how bizarre, but I'm going to choose to pick the one I like.  Cool

I don't think so...it's about 88 here too. If it cools down to mid to high 70's that will be perfect.

I'm a stalker Cool Hoping to get in IMAZ 2013. It would be great if I could find a place to stay so I could book it right after registration. Any suggestions?  We need a good sized place, we will have 4 of our kids with us.  TIA

You could always look at renting a condo or a house on vrbo.com.  With kids, though, you may want to be close to transition, so that might be hard to do on vrbo as they don't always give out exact locations.  I'm sure others will chime in.

Thanks, these are my thoughts exactly.  My husband just did IMFL last weekend. He found a place on VRBO and while it served our purpose the place was far from clean, smelled like feet and was 1.6 miles from transition, a bit further from the finish.

With kids, the youngest being 5 it would be great to have a place very close.  We have family there and plan to spend the week after the race in town and will find a separate place for the rest of the visit.  A place with a kitchen really close to the finish/transition would be awesome!

What are you guys planning to wear if its cold? Most efficient. I usually just wear a tri top and shorts but i get cold easily. I hate being cold especially on the bike.

I'll pack arm warmers automatically.  I will also bring a vest or light jacket to Tempe, and decide if it needs to go into my bags just before I turn them in.

Most of the "homes" in the area (within 1 mi or 1+ mi from the village/finish) are older, so if you are looking for something modern, you might be disappointed.  The host hotel is Tempe Mission Palms, and is right on Mill Ave (hiking, shopping and restaurants for the family).  Their rooms are ok size (family of 4 is always going to be a bit tight in most hotels), but their prices during Ironman week are outrageous.  About 1-1.5mi from the village is Springhill Suites (by the name alone I would think these provide a bit larger living space for a family).  Not much else around it (entertainment-wise), and it is still 1-1.5mi from the village.  Tough call.  Courtyard is within half a mile or so, and within easy walking distance to the lake, Mill Ave, hiking, etc.

Those winds are possible, and similar to what we saw a few weeks ago.  Let's hope for a lighter day than the current forecast (which will change half a dozen times in the next week).

My remaining workouts are pretty light as well.  Hay is in the barn, can't really build much fitness in the last two weeks.  Last "big" one was Wednesday:  2 hour ride/30 minute run.  I moved it from the weekend to Wednesday so I could ride in the afternoon "heat" of 75 degrees.  Glad I did it as the weekend looks crappy here.  But just a ten hour training week this week and maybe five the following.

Can't believe I arrive in one week!

I started this thread in Triathlon Talk, but I'll go ahead and post it in here as well...Any advice??

JasenGuy - 2012-11-08 2:43 PM

Hello, everybody...

Last night during my swim, I got one of those monster cramps in my calf. (I swear, every time I swim after my run this seems to happen) This one was so bad that I couldn't even point my toe up for a while to loosen it back up...It's also left me pretty sore all day today. I have a 1:00/30:00 min brick planned tonight...I also have an Ironman planned next weekend. Since I don't know what kind of injury "cramp soreness" is (tear,  bruise, inflamed, etc.)  I wasn't sure it is something that I can aggravate by training on it...

At this point, I know that "the hay is in the barn", but I'd like to stick to my plan if I can...Is a cramp something that lead to actual injury?? Should I just rest it for the day and maybe throw in a quick run after my ride tomorrow??

I thank you in advance...

Jasen - do you have a foam roller?  Use it often?  Stretch, stretch, stretch, and get your daily dose of calcium, magnesium and potassium.  I recently had a deep tissue massage and the guy is a hard-core muscle nutritionist, so when I talked about the tightness in my calves and Ironman, he went on a huge kick about getting enough K, Mg and Ca, then talked about stretching constantly.

My calves cramped up at IM last year about 3000m into the swim, but I was able to stretch them while swimming and finish without an issue.  But it made me wary of this year, not wanting to repeat the occurrence.

Ha, I was watching those as well last night trying to find the correct positioning. Seems like the front line is brutal but back of the pack looked like some slower swimmers. I cant imagine what its going to feel like when that cannon goes off.

I did the same. I was planning on a good ride over the weekend but saw the weather and the forecast shows a high of 30. I got out for a 1 hr run and 1 hr bike today. The weekend will be spent in the basement on the bike.
