Mike--sorry to hear about the injury

Alan--that is some serious riding! (and driving!), but do tell--how did the kid do on his exam after all that? :P

Yesterday afternoon I went for my second outdoor bike ride this season (#143). Man, by the end my neck was sore! I guess looking down at my iPad all winter on the trainer wasn't good form! Today is a "rest" day, with just yoga and strength training, both of which I knocked out this morning. I didn't think I'd like having two rest days a week, but I find myself looking forward to them!

I don't know but if I find out he failed, he's a dead man. :P

Just imagine what the TdF riders do, for 19 out of 21 days.  But then again they don't have to drive themselves 19 hours either LOL.

They also sleep and get massages and have people cook their food and work on their bikes... :P

RAN MY FIRST RUN SINCE THE BACK WENT OUT! Had to put that in caps. okay, so it was only a 2 mile easy run with a minute walk in there, but we'll see how the back feels tomorrow. I generally felt kind of crappy but i had just come from the pool, needed food and was probably dehydrated, so I accept that.

Boom! Time for a celebration beer. I'm raising my glass (of chocolate milk) high in your honor! Seriously - that's great!

I was putting in monster 400-420 watt pulls but cracked within arms reach of the pack. The next day was the Cedar Hill Crit. I lasted until the final 7 laps and was shot out the back. After the crit I had to get in my car an drive 19 hours back to Ottawa to get my teammate to his exam. I went 36 hours without sleep which included a bike race and a non-stop 19 hour drive (which I did solo, the kid riding with me couldn't drive). I've been lying on the couch watching movies for the last two days with a fuzzy head and jelly legs... I have a race on Sunday. I hope I feel recovered. This season is going to be a brutal one. I miss cat 3.

ALan - That post just shows why we named the group after you! Way to get it done!

At least I'll get my butt to the pool.

Sorry to hear it Mike! Get well soon!

Been a busy month. Kudos to you all getting workouts in amidst injuries/the busy.

I had a recovery week followed by a taper. Only problem is that I only made 2 of the 6 runs. One was this morning's speed workout. Only managed 8 min. mile over 3 miles.

25k trail run is this Sunday. My goal is to finish healthy and happy, and maybe meet/encourage some people along the way. This will be my longest effort this training cycle. I've got lots of work to do between now and june1 if I plan on running a marathon.

I stopped imbibing beverages for a time. It's already helping keep weight under control.

Happy Friday!

Swimming and not much else right now.  L knee still swollen - no pain but some discomfort because that feels really weird.  It has happened to me before and then it just goes away - hopefully quickly this time.

@Nicole - were you teaching swim lessons last evening at the Merritt?

Master swim this morning. Lots of kicking today--ugh. I'm enjoying it. Got some technique review today, which is good, I just wish I could physically do what the coach is telling me. Things to work on: high elbows. I thought I had high elbows! I guess it all looks different from the dry side of the pool.

Hey y'all (been in Nashville too long),

I think I might have mentioned it before but I recently partnered with another coach (a former pro triathlete actually) to expand my coaching business in the US. Our campaign went live yesterday on social media and I was hoping some of you might be able to help with some market research. Here's the link to the Facebook ad (should work even if you don't have Facebook). Have a look then click the sign-up button and check out the page that it brings you to (you won't actually have to sign-up for anything).

https://www.facebook.com/1641703349402127/posts/1710081252564336

Pretend like you don't know anything about this or me and it's your first time seeing it.

On the ad, I'm for looking feedback about why you would or would not click on the link.

On the actual page, I'm looking for honest feedback about why you would choose or would not choose to sign-up for a free plan.

If you have time and desire to check it out, that's great. If not, no sweat.

Thanks, everyone!

I ran into this problem when I started Masters - you should have seen me doing 3-6-3 kicking drills!  (note:  I still can't do them )

Hi, Alan.  First, take my review with a pinch of salt as I generally really try to avoid ads on Facebook, so I'm probably a little slighted.

That said, if I were looking to do an HM and wanted a plan, I don't think I'd be looking on Facebook, I'd more likely Google it.  The ad itself is fine.  Your web site is really nice - very clean looking and it should render well on a mobile platform, too.  As for the plan itself, I didn't sign up so I obviously didn't get it, but you're requiring someone to sign up for Training Peaks, also, and for a beginner that might be a little intimidating.  If someone's already comfortable with that platform, then great.

Hope this helps!

That's essentially what my concerns were as well. My business partner insists on TP but it does allow us to engage with people directly 'as their coach' which is what we want. Essentially we're trying to offer something more personal than just a generic PDF plan but also economical in the sense that we're not charging for it. The guy I'm working with has been coaching athletes for about 15 years and runs the local LBS and triathlon series in Ottawa so I trust his judgement on these things but I do think there might be a few too many roadblocks between people clicking the link and actually getting themselves a plan.

Oh that blows. I'm sorry to hear it Mike. Is it a major side-liner do you think or will some rest and ice take care of it. Maybe overuse?
I see lots of pull buoy laps for you....
I feel your frustration, hopefully it heals quickly.

Also need to work out nutrition--I was HUNGRY by the end of the class! (142/400).

Awesome!! I have been wanting to join our Master's class but boy the timing won't be consistent for me....although I could be making that an excuse; once in a while is better than not at all.
I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience!!!
I get wicked hungry after swimming too...taken to stopping at the nearby deli after for a chocolate milk from one of our local dairies. mmmmm

Hey Alan, would you like for me to share this with my running group to get completely objective input?
I do like the site. I agree that if someone didn't have any idea as to what Training Peaks is, it could be a limiter possibly. But I can let my friends take a look at it - none of them have Training Peaks and may not have ever heard of it so I would be curious as to their take on it.

3200 in the pool today. Man, I was feeling tired today. (something to do with getting off my bike at 21:45 last night??)
Was supposed to do an hour run (which I'm not doing yet with the back but was hoping to for 30 min).

Back was feeling super tight so I held off on the run and walked the dog instead and did PT and heated my back. Trying to be careful but am feeling like I need to get back at it. I still have a golf ball size knot in my quadratus on my back - my PT and chiro marvel at the size and that it feels literally like a golf ball. The other knot, just above it, is a bit smaller and is so hard my husband is convinced a piece of my rib broke off and it's bone. hahahaha Not sure if these knots will ever completely go away or how to get rid of them.

three quick thoughts:

1) the facebook ad was cut off by another add so only half of the running picture was there
2) You should list yourself as an Iron-distance finisher. I know that Ironman is copy righted but is there some way for you to let people know what kind of experience you have
3) I'd add a few testimonials of people who have used your service

Just my two cents (americans cents)....

Masters is all about form, so I'm sure that what they are trying to hammer home. But feel free to push back if you are feeling like they are giving you too much.
