mr2tony - 2008-07-18 11:52 AM Oh well that's ALL men, despite what Ryan says. Quickies can be the most fun, especially in certain places (the office, outside the casino in the car, on a picnic table in a park late at night, on a dirt road in the middle of the country atop an MR2) where you're not supposed to be doing such things. Not that I'd know, just sayin' ...

Holy God, 2goggs, you are one kinky sumbtitch! No wonder you're all sex-starved.

I'm jealous, he got it on a MR2... I'm restricted to a '73 ford maverick, and some lame newer sedans.

I drive a Chrysler Sebring. It has sufficed, if necessary. Not as hot as a sports car, though.

Still beats a '96 Saturn and a '95 Volvo wagon.

How bout 2006 Dodge Charger R/T? bout to sell it.. tired of the the high car payment...

I JUST dropped 440 clams on what's branded the toughest course in North America for an Ironman length event.

I actually feel a little anxious now....

Which one?

Mmmm...clams...

Spokes - 2008-07-18 11:57 AM   If I do something "Ironman" style ever, its going to be a ultra race like the American River 50 next spring. I could never finish the swim in an IM within the time limits, so why bother to prove my 'manliness" by doing an IM?

The thing that's so ridiculous about BT is there's a whole undercurrent here that if you don't do an IM you're really not worthy to be in triathlon. Hell, X2's BF does nothing but sprints and olys and his times for his AG and overall kick the butts of most of the people on here... but he's not a 'real triathlete' by the silly standard that's on this board.

Never felt the undercurrent but then again I haven't done a Tri since 2006.

I am happy riding whenever I can and running when I can't.

A good race for me is one I finish.  A great race is one that I did n't better than I thought I could.  A freaking awesome race is when I can be with friends.

Life is too freaking short to worry about crap that doesn't matter.

This is a very authoritarian household and they've both yelled at my kids a few times too many. IF they want them to come back for a week with the grandparents things are going to have to be much different than they are now.

It would've been a far better idea for them to come out to California where *I* don't have to listen to all of this crap. Its almost like being married to X2 again... crap.

I've seen both the encouragement for newbies and the 'it's just a sprint' mentality.  However, the fastest kid on my tri club only ever races sprints and olys.  That's just what he likes to do.  I know other people who seemed to be obsessed with longer distances, just to say them did them (at least that's the impression that I get from them).  I've seen this both on and offline.  However, given the number of "elite" waves that exist at the sprint level, I think that there are a whole lot of true triathletes that focus on the shorter distances.

The best part was that we'd had sex IN the MR2. Now that's no easy feat. Needless to say it required some creative positioning. And replacement of the shiftknob.

But that's the EXACT reason I want to do it.  I'm not going to be fast, or win anything, but I want to be able to tell myself that I could do something that difficult.  I probably won't ever do another one.  But I want to say I accomplished it - once.

Same would go for Climbing Everest or ski diving.  I want to do anything challenging once (within reason).  I don't think that makes me a bad person (not saying you implyied that).

However, I wouldn't run around bragging about it either, and telling everyone they need to do it.  It's just for me....

Really?? I have never felt that about BT. The 'other' triathlon web site HELL YES. They are ridiculous over there. Newbie questions are literally laughed at and made fun of. Where do you see people inferring if you're not an Ironman you're not a real triathlete on BT?

I think that if you think it would make you happy that you should go for it.  As long as you don't determine you self worth (or those of others) based on this criteria, and I don't think that you do, I say have fun.  I must confess that I do have some curiosity about the longer distances, but I don't know that I have enough to want to do the training for one.

To give a non-tri related example, I see a lot of people doing this with advanced degrees.  They've somehow convinced themselves that they need to have one.  I think if getting an advance degree is something that you want to do, then go for it at a reasonable time in your life.  But don't feel bad, or make others feel bad if, you/they choose a different path.
