www.roadid.com

Hi all, I have just been reading so many stories of athletes who are hurt while running/biking/swimming......  and if you are not awake when help arrives, it's a great idea to have medical i.d and family contact info.......

So the above link is a great way to have that info on you while you train.  I have one kinda like that but it's a bit different , I have  my name, contact info of family and that I have graves disease and the meds I take......... Oh and it's waterproof so I can swim in it.

Anyway, just want you all to be safe and if you do not have something like this, I figured it would be good to share with all of you.

I've got a RoadID that I wear around my ankle on all my rides and runs. I've never needed it but I wouldn't go without it. I also carry a copy of my Driver's License and insurance cards in my CamelBak or saddle bag. I also carry a cell phone with "ICE" numbers (In Case of Emergency).

that is a great point Julie! I know we do not want to think about getting hurt and we definitely hate to talk about it...but it is a good idea to make sure that whenever you are out on your own biking, running, swimming, hiking, walking...anywhere where you do not usually carry your wallet or sometimes cellphone...to have some type of id bracelet on. Or like Nicole said carry your business card in your seat pack. or a piece of paper with emergency info....I hope you will each do this today...and when running you will attach a card or info to your ipod. Thanks for bringing this up Julie.

I didn't get on yesterday, so I'm going to keep the Valentine's Day talk going today.  We got married back in 1984 (yes, I'm getting OLD!), so this year we will celebrate our 25th anniversary.  And we had a very romantic Valentine's Day -- not!  We brought sandwiches to my Mom's house and set up DSL for her.  Isn't that special?

25th anniversary?

Congratulations!!!

argh. had to take a short break. i'm making teddy bears for some kids (ok, they're MY kidsSmile) and i'm having ISSUE after ISSUE!! first i did them inside out, then i only made 2 of the pieces i needed (and two more pieces i DIDN'T need) THEN when i was putting front to back, i put the back on BACKWARDS!! you'd think i've never MADE these bears before! normally, i'm not kidding, they take me about half an hour. start to finish. i was making them for the kids to wake up to in the morning. so far, i'm still on the FIRST one, and i'm sitting here with my good frined "seam ripper" oh yeah, good times.
sorry. had to vent (and stretch my back a little) for anyone who doesn't sew, that made no sense. again. i heartily apologize.

Aww, that sounds so cute - sorry it's going so tough! That sounds like some of my knitting projects ... which lately are just sitting idle.

Hey all!! I'm back from Switzerland.  I didn't get the chance to do any training, but I did go skiing one day, then sledding the next.  I'll have to take a couple hours to catch up on all the past posts... but I'm back on track!!!!

Well, all, I'm still in onederland this morning weight-wise, so it's a GREAT day! I really want to stay on this side of the 200 mark this time. I was here in October, before I got injured, and briefly last January. So this time I'm making it stick!!! My trusty weight-loss spreadsheet says I'm right on track - actually, a little bit better than just on track -- to hit my July goal.

Off to the Y to go swimming this morning. Then we have to go to the mall to return one of my other V-day presents, a costume jewelry ring that says size 7 but that just can't be right because it falls off my finger.

Also have to get the laundry done today. I'm practically out of clothes. I even had to *gasp* wear skirts three days last week because I had no more clean pants.

Also hope to briefly stop at a bike shop and get full-fingered gloves. I lost one of my glove liners. I HATE when that happens! Hoping to go on a ride outdoors tomorrow with my training partner. She is super fitness chick. I'm teaching her to swim (blind leading the blind?), and she's helping me on the bike. I hope that I can keep up with her idea of "slow" and that she doesn't try to get me to ride 40 miles or something. It will be our first ride together.

Report on my wrist:

I'm wearing my wrist brace all of the day, whenever I'm not training or bathing, a good 22 hrs on many days. My wrist is hurting less but I'm not sure if it represents actual improvement in the tendonitis or if it's just that the brace makes it hard for me to do much and keeps me from hurting myself. There may be some decrease in the swelling but it's not really obvious. I have 2 more weeks before I go back to the doctor.

hang on, follow the treatment, it can take a while since it's a repetitive movement injury. because the decrease in the swelling, make sure the splint is still well adjusted (go see the PT that made it if you can).

LOL you guys made me laugh! next time i have a crochet question, or a knitting question, i know where i'm heading first!! last night, the first bear took, no kidding 3 HOURS!! the second one took me 45 minutes, and then i went to bed, so tonight, i'll get the third one done, and take some pics. you guys will laugh when you see how easy they are.
anyway, i also made a tote bag yesterday (WARNING, do NOT go to www.etsy.com and spend a ton of time there, for any reason!!! you'll spend the day making crafts!! LOL-actually, etsy is tons of fun, but just be careful!!)
the I.D. thing is a good idea, the few times i've been out and worried for my safety i've thought, oh GEEZ why don't i have one of those, but then i forget, and do nothing. i'll get something though, either online, or i'll find something i can carry. i live in the sticks, and don't have cell reception, so i don't carry a cell, i don't carry ANYTHING, so i'll have to maybe get one of those roadid things.
cheri--you signed up for a HALF?!?!? oh MAN i'm so impressed! and excited for you!! that's going to ROCK!! and YOU'RE going to rock! i can't wait!! hurry and train!! LOL
julee--what's with you taking my top post?!? LOL
ok, brain juice just dried up, gotta get some coffee and breakfast!!
have a good day guys.

congrats on the onderland....kiu! let us know what we can do to help you to stay focused and we will do what we can for you to try and keep you moving towards  your goal. I was over 200 lbs when I started doing this and that was a little over a year ago....and even though at one point I was 60 lbs lighter at one point...I am now back at the 40 lb lighter area...and working my way back down...so kiu you can do it too!! sounds to me that you have both the motivation and heart to do it!

Yup, I'm definitely wasting it.   I just took my bike out and got drenched -- no fun.  So I turned around and came home.  Now I'm going to go jump in a hot shower (yes, the rain was cold and so was I)!

My nike plus system is too nice,it said 7 miles even tough my "marked road" is 6.5 I recalibrated the thing during my cool down so, we'll see how i do next time.

For the record, i am an Occupational terrorist therapist. PT's are our professional cousins. Here in Quebec, handsplinting is mostly done by OT's so i've done a few...a long time ago.I am now in pediatrics. double dang!!

I am actually feeling better. I now fee as though I could run 3 miles its a start again.....but will stay off of it till mid week! I was going to go today, but it is nasty and even though I like to run in the rain...I am like Cheri and that does not include the cold and or windy rain and even though she was MUCH tougher then I and attempted to go....I did get up and take a long short look outside and saw how hard the rain was coming down and the angle it was coming down at...and instead of getting dressed to run...I rearranged my furniture in my front room to get ready for my "NEW" television - my husband bought us a 42" VIZIO TV. I am sooo excited. I just emptied my big entertainment ctr of all its goods ~ including the large outdated tv we had and put it in the garage, took out the old oak rocker we have had for way too many years, no more end tables - with matching lamps...all this went to the garage....either will have a large garage sale or find someone who needs it....but any way no peach for me today....I KNOW I was supposed to FOCUS...and I really did try!!!! but I did get lots done around the house and will be REALLY ready for my next work out! and peaches do have yellow in them right!?? I promise promise promise to do better tomorrow and be a better role model!! Have a great evening you all!...I am going to finish my book...I only have a few pages left and the anticipation is KILLING ME!

I didn't know we had a professional among us.

When she was first splinting me my wrist was really uncomfortable at the angle the doctor wanted so she made the angle a little less. I'm now thinking that I'd be OK at the originally desired angle and thinking about going back to have it adjusted. I also have a bit of wiggle room that could be eliminated.
