nope, b/c guys always want younger. The 40 year olds go after the 25 year olds, the 50 year olds go after the 30 year olds, the 60 year olds go after....me.

plus, single women  outnumber single men.  at least in the 70s, for sure!

Not always true.  When I was 30, I dated a 46 year old cougar.  What an amazing and wild ride that was!

That lasted about 8 months.  The distance was the deal-breaker (Tampa-Miami), not the age..

Also, today I would only date someone maximum 2 years younger, but up to 6 years older.  Nice to be with someone who has her act together...

The last guy I dated was 8 years younger than me. (I was 41, he was 33.) It wasn't serious, but dang if it wasn't a whole lot of fun.

For anyone that I'd want to be really serious with, that age difference is probably more than I'd want. But, for fun? Heck, why not.

While we all seem to be proof that dating isn't easy for either sex, in a broad sense, I might have to side with the ladies on this one. Some of my female friends tell me about all the couch surfing unemployed dudes that email them. I have yet to have a woman like that email me.

Speaking of which, I have a date tonight.

I think it's bc women will generally only talk to guys they think they have a connection to, and many guys just throw it out there and see who they can get. Not all of course.I got one tomorrow...first blind one in 4 months. Yikes.

I'm 27, and I've dated from 21-33.  Age isn't a factor.  There are far too many complications in dating to let age be a limiter.

I think it's that behavior on both sides that makes guys think it's easier.

For guys, it feels like a numbers game.  You never know who will respond, so you talk to 3-4 of them at once to improve your chances at connecting with someone.

***IT IS MY OBSERVATION***

That due to the above pattern (and who started which is a chicken or the egg game) women have the task of merely selecting who wants to go out with them, which seems to always be a bigger number than any of the candidates have.

What I guess I take for granted is how many of those choices the women have are even worth there time.

Well-said. And if I write to someone, it's bc I think it would work, but I still think I'm probably going up against a larger pool. What's also fun is comparing guys who my friends have talked to too. Yep, generally the same guys, even though we are vastly different in looks and interests.

I don't think I write to people that would not work, but there are definitely guys who try to outkick their coverage from what girls I've met tell me.  It's unfortunate, because it makes things tougher for those of us that actually are a good fit potentially.

Stupid men always screwing things up!

I dunno...there seems to be no shortage of girls I have next to nothing in common with that want to date me.  I'm pretty picky who I message/approach...although once in a while I decide to try to be open minded and  step outside my norm - which always results in me remembering why I have a norm to begin with.  As far as age...maybe I'm kinda guilty?  I'm 37 - my last actual GF was 4 years older than me.  I did briefly date a girl that was 9 years my elder.  Age wasn't the issue in either breakup...but a big part of what I'm looking for is a playmate that will be out there doing crazy sh** with me as long as possible.  It'd be kindof a bummer if one of us wore out long before the other.  I have dates as young as 22...my current limits - not sure.  28ish to 40ish?  How well they take care of themselves would be a factor.  That's all theory - I have all sorts of rules that go out the window when things are awesome.

Crossfit chick is heading out of town this weekend, but we had a nice run before our workout today and she asked if we could go climbing again next week.  We have that and a movie planned.

I used to say that, too. But my experience has taught me I need someone no more than 5 years younger than me (I'm 34) - at least at this stage in my life.

Age is a limiter when the person looks and acts OLD. You can be 10 years older, but don't look and act like a grandpa.

Exactly. And vice versa a girl can be 10 years younger, as long as she doesn't act like she is still in college.

So now the guy I'm supposed to go out with sent some odd texts last night. He was at happy hour and I thought he was drunk at first. He said no that he been home an hour...but I wasn't sure even what to respond bc they were random statements. Not sure i want to waste my time...seriously irritating.

Home for an hour doesn't mean he wasn't still drinking...

What kind of texts?  How odd?  Like maybe they were intended for someone else odd, or "I know we haven't met in person yet, but I want you to be the father of my 7 children" odd?

He writes "mornin!" at 5:00 pm.  ok, could be funny.

then writes he's going to to happy hour at That's Amore.  Which I reply, "thats kind of an odd place to go, is it happening?:

He shows me a picture of the menu saying, well let me put it this way. hmmmm. ok... so I write  "if you want happy hour, then you should go to Mortons.  Thats a heck of great deal."

then 2 hours later, I get "Happy hour is the best!"

To which I reply, "are you drunk?"

He writes, "no, I've been home 45 minutes."

Just weird. I don't even know how to reply to them, they sound drunk to me.  whatever...if its between meeting this guy and riding my horse tonight, I think my horse wins.  I don't care if you're a great conversationalist in person...don't be a dolt in texts.

Maybe just booze-fueled awkwardness.  First thing I take away from the situation is that he's thinking about you while he's out drinking.  I say give him a shot...though I would be concerned if he has to be home in :45 and is in denial that he's loopy.  If you can't text coherently, you should drive home...
