OK Podmate... I love all the sexual innuendo's (and the innuendoless sexual comments) but I have to change the subject for something that is REALLY important to me right now.  

I have applied to be a 911 operator and I crushed the first 2 rounds of testing.  11 days ago, I received an email stating I was moving on in the process, and that I would be contacted to schedule an interview.  There were background check forms and professional reference forms attached.  I WAS VERY HAPPY.  

I haven't received a call, so I started worrying.  I contact the HR lady who's name was on the email.  She looked in the computer and was thinking out loud while she was searching.  She said they did the first round of interviews already, and she was shocked that I wasn't call for an interview.  I told her that I didn't know where my test scores ranked me with the other candidates, but I was pretty confident that I tested quite high.  She said "Oh yeah, you did very well."  She told me she would look into it, and call me back.  

I get a call from her, and she says that she was informed that something popped up in my background check that disqualified me for the position.  She said it is being reviewed by the Director right now.  I am absolutely shocked.  I have never been arrested as an adult, and there should be nothing in my record that would disqualify me.  

So my question to the podmates is, does anyone have a way to run a national background check on me? (I know we have a couple lawyers in the group).  Preferably a pre-employment type of screening?  

The online services are just an aggregate of publicly available records and are not known for their accuracy.  Not to mention, I don't know which websites to trust.  I am good at researching them, and am doing that as we speak, but I thought I would throw it out there to the pod.  

I have to find out what the hell is showing up that is scaring away potential employers and disqualifying me from a job I really want. 

Also - as a footnote.  Last year I applied for a job with a company I worked for in the past.  I was eligible for rehire when I left. The interview process was going great and I was a shoe in for the job.  Then all of a sudden, the quit communicating with me.  I can't help but think that is related to whatever is showing up in my background.  

Man I hate this shiiiiit.  It could be an unpaid parking fine or something!  Be nice if you could find out.  Gave you my suggestion.

I've done criminal checks in Colorado (where I lived for 12 years) and Washington (where I live now)... Nothing there.  

I did a search on the National Registry for Sex Offenders..... Nothing there.  

I lived in Oregon, but their public records are not available online... have to fill out forms and it takes 7-10 days to get them.  

Really hoping that someone can do a National Search for me (since I'm sure that's what the Police Department I am applying with does)  I need to know if someone with the same name did some sh*t that is mixed in with my record.  I can't think of anything else it could be.  

I'm pretty sure I've sprouted a couple more gray hairs in the last couple of hours.  

Don't think there is anything else I can do now... going to go for a run, then I'm going to open a bottle of Chianti I've been wanting to try.

I cannot wait for February to be over, I need some wine!  Why did I do this dumb giving up of alcohol and chocolate for the month - incidentally I gained 4lbs doing that and training my azz off.  WTF.
