What are some easy ways to lower cholesterol? I'm kind of on the high side of the acceptable scale.

The doc said diet and excercise. Well, I think I excercise enough, so what about diet? Just low fat stuff? I thought I kind of did that already...

I hear oatmeal is suppose to help lower your levels.

Cheerios too - I think any whole grain.

I could do that.  I like oatmeal...

It is all diet... Lots of healthy eating... whole grains. Sometimes you can't get it all the way down. A low grade statin may have to be used. I am sure that I will have that issue in a couple years. All my grand parents and both my parents have this issue.

Cardio is supposed to help.. can't remember if thats just for HDL

He's training for an Ironman... How much more cardio do you want him to do??

Rynamite - 2008-09-09 11:45 AM Yeah really, 40 bucks? He could probably find that much money by searching through pockets of coats he hasn't warn for a few years.

Evidently I wasn't clear - This thing puts out 1500 Cubic Feet (I may have said square earlier) of fog per minute and he is using it to play guitar Hero - a PS3 game that he plays ------ in the house.  1500 Cubic Feet will fill a 10x15x10 room.  That's a ton of fog for a room that is smaller than that.  It might just - and you sciantists help me here - start to ease out of the room and fill other parts of the house.

that sounds cool...

Tell him I'll buy it for $40, if he pays shipping...

Ohhhhh - He's not getting rid of it.

I sort of chuckled to myself when the doctor suggested that too.  I think I have narrowed it down to diet....

Basically you got it. Lots of portion control when it comes to proteins. Always lean proteins. Lots of veggies and whole grains. Cut back on cooking oils, butter and the like.

there's a lot of gene basis too it as well.  As bad as my health has been, I have outstanding cholesterol and lipid control.  I eat way too much red meat, I would think, to keep it there, but it doesn't seem to matter.  Good genes, in that respect, I guess.

Well, that ain't going to happen.....

I had some nachos last night at Simon's.  He is a famous chef, you may have seen him on TV.  They were amazing.  Next time I'm getting his sliders...

I was also surrounded by models and in the same room with George Maloof, watching the Broncos kick arse.  Not a bad night...

ETA:  Maybe that's why my choloesterol is a little high...

I am just the opposite - I find it hard to get up and get moving - but once I get thee blood pumping, I feel better.

This generally causes problems because I take on too much and don;t give myseelf the rest I need to get better.  I'm somewhat stupid.

Yeah... I hear you... I need to start thinking about it and working on both ends of the spectrum. Heck, I'm pre-hypertensive at 28.

Yeah - you want no part of Hypertension.  All things down that road are bad.  No suggestions, just a statement.

This be troof. On the flipside, there are very healthy people with bad cholesterol, or high blood pressure, etc. I lucked out in the gene pool in all regards. No non-diet-induced high cholesterol in my family (dad's got high awhile back when he gained some weight, but he lost the weight), and my mom, sis and I have really low blood pressure and resting heart rate. Plus, my dad's side of the family lives FOREVER. So I'm banking on that too

Anyone here ever had Tennis Elbow?  If so, ever use a brace for it, and did that help?

THey make those little armbands with the air pockets for tennis elbow. Only other thing is to rest it and not aggravate it any more.

I don't tell many people.  It puts too much pressure on me.  The wife does the bragging, which makes me uncomfortable.

I worry that people might think that I feel I'm some sort of stud or masochist - neither is true.  I'm just a chubby kid with a dream to finish one.

The doctor just asked "do you exercise a little, moderate, or a lot?".  I asked what is a "lot" and they said something like 30 minutes a day.

So I said "A LOT"....
