kgore - 2012-07-20 12:01 PM Oh, almost forgot! I get to be on TV! Cool I guess a local station regularly does a little segment on animal stuff on Mondays. They got in touch with us, and after lots of chatting, they decided that exotic animal training was of interest. They are enamored with the idea of my training our White's Tree Frogs (the ones that try to eat my hands on a regular basis), so they are going to film me 'training' them, and also interview me as well. This is all happening on Monday--so afterwords, I will post a link once they release it. I'm going to have to SERIOUSLY CLEAN that exhibit, it has seen better days...oh well, task for the weekend! Undecided

Ooooh, how exciting! Not the cleaning part, though.

Sooo ... I'm back from my first swim session with the blond German piglet. It was really just to feel each other out, see where he's at with his swimming, get a workout in, including some breaststroke, some backstroke ... but I digress.

So of course I nearly made him puke ... from the SWIMMING! the SWIMMING!

I mighta been a bit direct with my first words to him: "Dude. What is all that sh&%+?! You're scaring me. Throw that away." He was doing his warmup with a snorkel and fins ... and just planing flat as a board across the water.

We did have a really nice breakfast after.

I think I'm going to post his stats and videos as progress here. He's an interesting case ... we need to get him from where he is right now to (triathlon swimming) world-class times in ... 9 months. He qualified for 70.3 Worlds on a laughable swim (for that level) and smokin' bike and run times and got very lucky with a roll-down that went 20 places deep. That's not going to happen when he tries to qualify for Kona ... to be certain of a spot, he's going to have train to win his age group (thus likely putting him in the top 3).

mmmm.

Went to my Pilates session at lunchtime stupidly mentioned my calf muscles and achilles are sore and tight - 60mins of working on those then!  What I do absolute love is that my instructor keeps saying this

You triathletes are so tough on your bodies...or that's because you're a triathlete

I've never been called a triathlete before!  I love it!

See if you can e-mail or better yet call (or if you're on campus, best yet meet) the professors and ask some intelligent questions about the class content, syllabus, literature, etc. It will become quickly apparent who has the most passion for the subject and for teaching. Take the class with the one whom you wish you could politely hang up on because s/he keeps blathering on

I've taken a class from the one who teaches the Crusades class--its her specialty/passion--she is actually a REALLY good professor, her class on ancient civilizations was fascinating. As for the other two, they have it listed as "staff" teaching it, i.e. they don't have the professor nailed down yet. Mythology is an interest I have (I am crazy for reading myth-y stuff!), and I also have always been interested in Japanese culture (one of my classes last semester was an anthro based class on Japanese culture), so I am familiar with it too (I even have a Japanese breed of dog!)

Mika, my Shiba Inu

hm....I can't sign up for classes at the moment, so I have to wait til late August to try to get in the class... I have time to decide--so far, between here and Facebook, I have more votes for mythology. oooooh, decisions, decisions! At least it keeps my mind off of worrying about the appeal! Funny bit there: According to my adviser, mine was the first SAP appeal she'd seen--yet there are TONS of others who have one---this is the first year that the school is having to enforce the unit over limit rule! Mainly at the behest of the feds....well, hopefully, my needing ony 7 more classes will work in my favor!

I took a mythology class last semester and it was HORRIBLE.  I was really excited about it but it turned out to be so dry and boring.  I'm a HUGE anthro geek so I would go for the Japanese class first, Crusades as a second chose and wouldn't consider the mythology class if you paid me.

Love the doggie pic!

Me too haha! Then all that talk of stroking...and "getting a workout in".  I have a dirty mind...but it's all this piglet talk that brings it out! I've noticed myself noticing guys and thinking, mmm, that's a piglet there...happened just yesterday, this older but totally ripped guy was taking his wetsuit off after a swim in the lake (where I have my coached swim). It was impressive, because he did look like he might be 50.

Sorry I have been an infrequent poster as of late, trying to avoid BT while working because I want to impress on my 3 week fill in to get a good reccomendation but I have been working out mostly, missed yesterday due to a charity event at a brewery for the local shelter how do you say no to that?  Got a good ride in today and am posting it soon hope for a swim tomorrow.

On the cockroach front, we have palmetto bugs (term of endearment?), they are cockroaches that fly.

LOL, I tried for a week or two but it was kiling me to miss out on everything. I'm back to my manatee addiction, and I don't think there is such thing as manatee rehab.

Au contraire. You'd have to go to Florida, though.

Manatee Rehab at Lowry Park Zoo

Jeebs. That sounds like my life.

Gosh, but there are some really cute pictures in that link! (Did you know it costs $30,000/yr to feed an adult Manatee? Yep, that sounds about right to me ... ha ha ha)

Aw, those poor manatees. Did you see the one with the propeller scars? It sucks that being quiet and gentle means human stomp all over you.  Sometimes I'm not a big fan of the human race.

Okay, okay, I'll try not to act like a 13-year-old boy for a minute.

It means to do suggested (or find your own) swim drills, such as one-arm freestyle, fist drill (fisting! ha ha! somebody help me), catch-up, etc.

I know you've pulled your hair out, yelled and screamed, gone crazy trying to deal with various schools, agencies, etc. to get Cole everything he needs.

But it really shows. He is a fine young man and I sense much light in your posts in various places.

Thank you Yanti for your kind words.  I have had to change my attitude towards a lot of things when dealing with Cole's challenges.  That in itself has made a huge difference in how I feel and look at issues that arise.  We have had a few really hard days this past week but, we are doing what we can and I am choosing to focus on the positive moments that we have together instead of the negative.  It's amazing how a simple change can have such a large impact.

This reminds me of another one of my wife's reminders. "In the face of difficulty, you can change the situation or you can change yourself." Sometimes one of those choices makes the most sense and sometimes the other.

Continued prayers for you and yours.

Thanks, it will take a while. We'll know more this weekend, we go up tomorrow. It'd be easier if he were being an azz, but he's not. He is struggling. It sux all around. She is still in the apt with him, so we'll be moving her out of the apartment and into a friends house for a few weeks. Hopefully the healing can begin then.

One of the interviews she has is with Disney Cruise Lines. I think it would be the best "get away, bury yourself in work, move on, discover yourself" option possible. The thought of her being on a ship for 4 months...

My younger sister worked as an entertainer on a cruise line and also at Eurodisney where she worked with Phil Collins whilst he was promoting the Oscar winning sound track to Lion King(?)

It really helped her develop as a young woman. Fingers crossed for your daughter.XX

Kirk, nice to see you back. Your opinion was noted along with those of the other Manatees. Although there was some sense in selecting the sprint, I am muppet enough to ignore that and this very morning put my money where my mouth is. My first Oly is on 19th August -signed up and paid up.

So, that's me and Chris. Anyone seen any committment from the other one? (you know who you are).

Kate, was going to say mythology but i like the sound of the prof that you have previously had.

Yanti, you are incorrigable. Don't ever change.

Salty, I'm still getting over your marathon time. Wow.

Erica, Unlucky on the 'accident'. Live and learn. Glad no-one was injured.

Janyne, thanks for making me make my mind up........I think.

I am going to be watching the last of the TdF over the weekend, getting in a few rides of my own and also meeting my sons for fun and a BBQ Sunday afternoon. It's his 22nd B'day and his French  g/friend is over for 5 days.

Weather forecast is also gooood for a change, so all is fine with the world.Smile

Hope your Fridays are winding up nicely as you prep for your weekends.

Don't know the whole situation there, but I had some friends who split up shortly before their wedding (like some guests decided to fly in for a holiday anyway kind of shortly).  Again, no one was being a jerk, it just turned out that it wasn't right.  They are both the happier now, as I am sure it will be for your daughter when she gets through the grief.  I'm sure it is very hard for you to have her hurt and not be able to take it away, but your support will help her get there!

Yeah, yeah, I'm still thinking about it. I'm going to try swimming in the ocean before I commit. There are a couple other srpint options the weekend before that I'm also considering.  I'm glad to see you heed sensible advice as well as our dear Yanti. You better HTFU and get in the pool, then go rock that Oly!
