It goes against my nature...

But lawds, sometimes I fantasize of a "purging".  Have a vote to have certain BTers kicked out due to general disruption.  The mods can even veto it.  There are some who just argue EVERYTHING just to argue, and rarely offer any constructive advice or insight on anything, much less triathlon.

It would be by (un)popular vote.  If anyone questions the saying "one rotten apple"  -  I could point them to CoJ.  99% of people?  Brilliant, even if I disagree.  The others?  Can ruin a basically civil, interesting, and fun site.

Hey, and if I was the one to be voted off?  The tribe has spoken...

No, but I think it is a lot of online ordering?  Or at least the people who I known it to happen to.

That sucks to come home to after your trip!  Sorry.

started asking around and at least 10 or 15 people i work with had it happen within the past year. i made sure to review them on yelp and include this story. i am also considering filing a police report...

HOW? They often have a handheld skimmer that they swipe your card in the back. that skimmer records your information. they can give you back your card and you will never know it. then they simply download the numbers and re-encode any type of card with a magnetic strip to use your card. they will usually use the cards until the credit limit is reached or until they get denied.

Does the new and improved BT allow the big important thread like TAN to have pictures now?

My question is, how do you know when you HAVE a message?  I used to see the little red number in the top left.

this particular restaurant you pay at a cash register, but doesn't mean they don't have the skimmer installed in THAT - i know that's what they do at gas pumps.

i'm going to a cash-only life, i swear.

Something that is growing in popularity with credit card scams is a device that overlays the credit card machine and reads your card at the same time and stores the info in an embedded SD memory card.

Edit:  That's what you basically just said; I need to read slower :-p

From there, it wouldn't be tough at all to write the info back to any magnetic strip card.  This sort of thing is part of why lots of larger stores have gone to having the clerk enter in the last four digits of the card manually for verification.  It at least cuts down on the likelihood that they will write your data to a junk card that has already been cancelled and use it that way.

Yep it happened to me, a co-worker and her husband at the same restaurant in the Las Vegas airport. Her and I dined together, but her husband had dined there the day before. ALL THREE card numbers were stolen and were being used as actual CARDS all across the country.

I wrote an email to the manager of the restaurant but of course never heard back. I left a horrible review on Yelp but it probably got filtered.

On my football site, we have a "Ignore this User" button.  Click it and you no longer see anything from that person.

I never use it because I have to moderate the site (which I admittedly suck at), but lots of folks really love it... especially in politically charged discussions.

The skimmers are very small and can usually fit in the palm of your hand, so if you are not paying attention, they can skim it without you even knowing it.

Cash only life would be tough, but be gald it was a credit card and not a debit card!

my yelp review (and it was my first ever) did get published. next step is to contact the police and find out if there are any open investigations or if i could open one - i have enough people here to build a case. also will call the bank and ask if they will help press charges, since it's in THEIR interest to get the money back.

That would be awesome!  And probably pretty simple.  I think for SOME users, after none too long, they would be talking to dead air, or just a couple of their cohorts.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have BT add that.

My new strategy was to completely ignore them and their questions to bait me...

I was going to make a joke about how would a 3-participant thread look if all of them were "ignoring user" each other by happenstance. And then I realized that it would look not much different than TAN.
