Not much to report yet this week.

60min treadmill run Tuesday
60min easy zwift ride Wednesday.

Tonight will be one of my longer rides, either 1 1/2 or 2/2 hours, depending on how quick I get through the bedtime/making tomorrows lunch routine. Which ever ride it isn't will be Saturday.

Glad it doesn’t seem to be anything serious Gretchen good call going to the hospital though to get it checked!

Mike, of course you want to do that 5k to see where you’re at run wise, even if it rains (or it’s too hot), it will be a good test.

Not much to report Andrew, other than doing something every day. That’s great, it’s as natural as brushing your teeth now.

I am more sore/tired today after this 10k than I was after my oly, what’s that all about? Could be the accumulation, it has been a long season.
I think I’m going to take a week’s complete rest, well only swimming, the weather is great at the moment and the lake still warm enough, I want to make the most of it while I can. And of course I’ll run with my friend on Sunday, haven’t seen her for a while. I may bike to work (17k one way) while the weather is nice. Not to forget my daily stretch and mobility training (testing an app, dynamic triathlete which gives me a 20 minutes routine every day)

Yes, 2024 Nat will have to be on top of her game to do better than 2023, this season has been really successful.

Nat, congrats on once again demolishing past Nat. You had a really excellent season and have earned a break!

Gretchen, sorry to hear you weren't well, but thrilled that everything is coming out ok. Definitely best to play it safe.

Mike, stay cool out there! This weather has been no joke, but we'll be through the worst of it soon!

Andrew, I'm with Nat. Consistency is huge. Great work. Also, not sure if I said this before, but I meant to. Congrats on the weight loss!

I'm still pretty sick, so this week has been all about rest so far. Trying to work as much as I can today. Drugs are amazing. I hate to think how horrible I would feel without the ibuprofen and dayquil currently in my system.
Getting restless though. The heat is helping keep me indoors, but man am I bored.

Hit the gym at 6 AM this morning with a short spin bike warmup (22 min) then a 5K on the treadmill with some fast strides sprinkled in.  Then legs day (can't forget legs day!!).  Bike felt great, the run was a slog and so was the strength session because it was quite warm in the gym this morning (as Nicole noted, it's hot at F%#$! here right now).  Long swim tomorrow morning then we're headed to Williamsburg VA for a long weekend.

Thanks for the kudos guys, yes the last little bit my consistency is definitely getting back to where I want/need it to be.

@Mike, nice run/bike/gym session. That counts as another triple

@Nicole, sorry your feeling sick, hope you kick it ASAP, and kick off your last year in the 30s plan the right way.

@Nathalie, I would guess you're more sore/tired because the 10k is at a higher intensity. Shorter duration yes, but pushing closer to your max for the whole time. That can hurt a lot more than just going long.

Me, Last night I attempted to do my long ride, supposed to be 2 1/2 hours 'mixed intervals' it's the hardest ride so far from my training plan. 2x10' Z3 in the first hour, 5x1' Z4 in the 2nd with the rest a mix of Z1 and Z2 stuff. Anyway, definitely not feeling it so ended up bailing after an hour. So it became a 60min cruise interval workout. I'll do a longer one on the weekend.

Have a good weekend guys.

And Gretchen, how/where are you? Last post is over 24 hours old and you were still in hospital at that stage. I hope everything is good, and your back home. Check in please.

Have fun in Williamsburg, Mike!

I am finally on the mend! I haven't taken medication since yesterday morning. I'm a bit stuffy still and get a little dizzy when I exert too much energy but I'm on my way to getting back into my groove!

I will send my plan over tonight, since I'm still taking it easy. I have a wedding tomorrow so figure that will be my first out of sickness venture

@Nicole-glad to hear you’re feeling better!

I’m still alive. Discharged from hospital on Wednesday night about 6pm. I showered and pretty much went straight to bed, sleeping until 8 Thursday morning. I took yesterday off from everything…except making approximately 1 million follow up appointments. This morning was 2750yds in the pool at a somewhat easy pace. No need to over tax myself just before a race.

Glad you are on the mend Nicole and Gretchen.

Took two rest days after Wednesday’s 10k and I am ready to go again. It will be low intensity until Wednesday. Then we’ll see how it feels.

Great job, Nathalie.  Way to finish off the year!  Don't forget to RR so 2024 Nat knows how 2023 Nat did it.

Done! And I did write something of interest to future Nat!

40’ tempo run this morning that went really well. Now to pack and drive to my Oly for tomorrow. Only two hours away, but I prefer to be local on race morning just for simplicity. Need also to decide on some pacing goals and such.

Thanks Nat! I’m shooting for another PR. I did this race last year in 3:29. It is a pretty flat bike course with only one turn around, so I’m gunning for under 3:10, which would be another PR. Based on my May Oly, I think I can do it. A very stretch goal would be sub-3 hours, but given the terrible night’s sleep I got, not sure that is feasible (but I’m going to try!).

We’ll see what the swim brings. They’ve changed the course and now it is a three lap swim, with a big chunk along the beach. Depends on who sets the course whether that portion will be deep enough to swim, or if you have to get out and run. If I have to run the swim, I’ll be faster!

Anything under 3:28 will be a win and i am confident that’s just a formality based on your season so far this year.

You go girl!

I’ll write more later, but final time was 3:17:xx, a 12’ PR for the course and just off my Oly PR by 1:28 (on a much easier course). Once again, women 40-44 was the deepest field in the race. No hardware.

I'm back! Had a really nice weekend.
Friday night I went to the store, and was feeling really antsy from being trapped inside all week, so once I got home I decided to take a walk. Ended up doing 2 1/2 miles around the park by my house. It felt SO GOOD!

The next day I had a wedding. Woke up and read and then had to get ready quickly so skipped my workout for the day. The wedding was an hour and a half away and I didn't want to stay there overnight (I was a plus one with someone I was very briefly dating), so didn't drink much. It was a really fun wedding, but was able to drive home safely and sleep in my bed that night.

Woke up yesterday and had vball playoffs. Usually we play Mondays, but since I was sick and people were able to be flexible, we played yesterday instead. I was getting winded pretty easily but overall played okay. My partner and I lost in semis to a team that is just ridiculously consistent. They ended up winning, and then we played a couple more games after.

Woke up this morning and got in a 30 minute PZ ride on my Peloton, then did 10 minutes of core. Feeling pretty good!

Welcome back Nicole!

Yes, driving is a great way to limit the alcohol intake! what's the legal limit in your part of the world? Here, you can get away with it with one glass of wine/beer if you wait a few hours before you drive. It's pretty much 0 tolerance.

Because of my long walk, I didn't get to share my plan with you all on Friday, so here is the gist of it:

I'm focusing on every area of my life, and have goals, either consistent or one time goals. I also have a monthly tracker where I am tracking the consistent goals. It keeps me from forgetting them and hopefully soon they will become habits. There is also lots of space so I can continue adding these goals as I have them.

Health goals: I will workout a minimum of 5 days per week. This will include cardio, strength, and yoga (I don't typically count sports like vball and football as my workout). I need to move in some way every day, even if it's just a stretching session (I did not do this while sick unfortunately). I will sign up for 1 race a season (so minimum of 4 per year). My next race is going to be the Celtic Solstice, which is a 5 mile race in the middle of December. I may do something before that, but have a crazy October so probably not.
Included in this are sleep goals. I'm aiming for a regular sleep schedule (10pm to 5am), and snoozing only one time before waking up (this has been the hardest so far!).
Plank for one minute each day.

Nutrition goals: Plan meals for each week (plan the Thursday of the prior week). I will find easy meals to make for when I am feeling tired, and also freezing some stuff that I can dip into when I don't feel like cooking. If I don't have time to grocery shop, I will use instacart/my grocery store's pickup service.
Work week - I can only buy breakfast and lunch during the work week a maximum of 3 times. I can only eat dinner out when I am eating with someone else (so I can't just swing by Chipotle if I'm feeling lazy).
Weekends are a little looser, depending on what I have going on.
Drinking/relationship with alcohol:
Weeknights (Sun-Thur) - I will only drink 1 weeknight max, and 2 drinks max
Weekends - I will only drink one weekend day/night (Friday or Saturday), or if I drink more then one, I can only have a max of 3 drinks at either.

Budget goals: Use my budgeting app every day to track expenses (it is linked to my bank accounts). Stick to my budget as closely as possible - if I start spending too much in one area, I will need to adjust my budget in other areas to cover if I can't avoid spending more. My savings should stay intact/continue to grow.

Personal goals: Read more, track books in GoodReads, Make my bed daily, straighten one space per day as needed

House goals: Curtains for all my windows, de-clutter all rooms of my house (one per month until completed), Get basement finished, redo bathroom upstairs once that is done

That's pretty much it for now. Need to work on my work goals still, but need to catch up at work first I think. My monthly tracker so far tracks the following items. I either just check them off or put in a number (such as with drinks per day)
# of drinks each day
Workout
Stretch/yoga
Read
# of meals out
Make bed
Straighten space
Track Expenses
Sleep by 10pm
Wake by 6am
Snooze only once
Plank for 1 minute
