Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hehe in BT circles a 7 mile run is certainly not a long run for many folks here and on my plan it is the short run for the week (5-7, 8 and 13-14). No arrogance intended, especially when I am still in the newer stages of learning everything that I need to about this sport. Outside BT pages, and in my community in particular, someone who walks to their mailbox instead of driving their truck is considered a high end athlete. So I can hear ya on that note. Peace out, (short bike ride tonight (45 min)). |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I just read that the male winner of the Army 10 miler I ran this weekend completed it in 38:59!!! I can't imagine moving that fast!!! I am nervous that I hurt myself doing this run. I have never been in this much pain - my quads are broken. I can't sit down or get up out of chairs properly, walking down hill is torture, I look so gimpy just trying to get around. I hope this is just extreme lactic acid build up. The strange thing is, I went for a bike ride this evening, mainly to see if I could even do it, and I ended up holding a respectable pace. Funny, I can't walk but I can ride. That is encouraging that the muscle pain is lactic acid build up and the bike ride will help. Has anyone else ever experienced this kind of over-exertion difficulties? My new perfume has become ICEYHOT - good stuff. On the other hand, my sinuses have never been so clear P.S. I lost my bike movie virginity last night. I finally watched American Flyer for the first time. It wasn't that bad. A few cycling goofs for people in the know- but it got me charged up to ride. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Did your 10 miler have more downhill running than you are used to? When I run down hill for like 1-3 miles in a race my thighs kill for a couple days. My calves, feet or shins may get sore in practice, but never my thighs unless it is a race with prolonged steep downhill. Ya I know I need to do more prolonged down hills 8). You can use a marathon stick on them and it should help. Also the dreaded ice bath after your next hobble/run should help with recovery. |

Steve, have you done any marathons out west? Looking to do one next year and probably going to try something different than the Marine Corps Marathon. Bought a wetsuit last night from someone on ST, not bad for 90 bucks. Need it for my last tri in November. |

They are wonderful for getting in deep and relieving any lactic acid buildups. Sorry to hear you're in such pain with your legs though. |

Bought a wetsuit last night from someone on ST, not bad for 90 bucks. Need it for my last tri in November. Congrats on the wetsuit! As far as marathons going I have done a couple out here.... There are some pretty one's around Seattle, but not so much in Seattle (some very pretty ones close by: Bellingham, San Juan Islands, Victoria, Vancouver)... There is one here in Seattle called the Seafair Marathon... It is a tough course, and last year over 200 people didn't make it to the start line to running out of shuttles... My personal favorite is down in Sunriver/Bend Oregon. It is called Pacific Crest Weekend and they have an Oly Distance, 1/2 Iron Distance (and duathlons), they have a 5k, 10k, 1/2 Mary, and Full Marathon Run.... Great scenery, good breweries, and WELL ORGANIZED... If you know when you are coming out west we can look a little closer, and find an event... Hope this helps?! |

The Bellingham Bay marathon (I did the half) is a great race in my neck of the woods. I always hear that but don't remember it raining there anymore than here when I was a kid. Also been there many, many times over the years and same thing, don't remember it raining. Haven't been there in awhile, my grandparents moved near my Dad in Minnesota a few years back so haven't had a reason to go. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Okay guys, I don't know why I am throwing this out there because I know what you are going to say, but here is the question: this saturday is my charity bike ride that I have been raising money for all year. There is a choice of routes, a half metric century (31miles) or a full metric century (60 miles). My husband has organized the guys I ride with and they are working the rest stop on the century route. My thighs are feeling much better today and I am inspired by how good I felt on the bike yesterday. Yet I have a sprint tri next week that I really want to break an hour time on (yes it is a super sprint, but it is the very first tri I ever did last year and I'd like to see how much I can improve on my time). Also my girlfriend that is riding with me will only be doing the half. So do I keep pushing the hard events and do the full 60, or do I let my legs continue to heal and push it hard at next weeks tri? |

You know... You are at a point now where you can do both! You will be a little tired on Monday, but by next weekend you will be fine!!! PLUS THE DISTANCE that you are doing next weekend..... PIECE OF CAKE, even if you are tired... It seems as though this year is a year OF 1st FOR YOU! 10 Miler, Olympic, SPEED, etc... GO FOR IT ON THE BIKE RIDE!!! It is a CHARITY RIDE... IT IS NOT A HAMMER FEST!! JUST ENJOY IT!!! |

Just remember that the charity event is not a race so take your time and have fun doing it. You'll be in great shape for a super sprint. It will be like a walk in the park after doing the Oly and all the other tough races you have been doing. I was going to do the super sprint at Lakeside back in Sept which had been my last tri for the season but I still had the big bug and wanted to beat my last time at the long distance sprint. |

You need to find a hobby that is not hazardous to your health. Let’s recap what you have done in the past few months, running with tumors on your larynx, mountain hiking with bears, climbing boulders, Ironman. Can't you do something simple, like fishing? Of course knowing you it would have to be Alaskan King Crabbing or spear fishing. DON'T KILL YOUSELF!! Your mentor group is stepping up their races for next year and we need you to be around. Purely selfish reasons of course
