2) What kinds of hobbies (if any) did you have before triathlons?

My previous hobbies include, but are not limited to (and listed in chronological order (but not really))

Heavy drinking

Motorcycling in a somewhat reckless manner

Shooting

Driving my car to no place in particular

Listening to obnoxious music at high volumes

Attempting to talk to girls, but having no luck <-----(Hasn't stopped due to tri-training) <--- still working on it

Playing video games

Watching the same movies over and over

So it looks like you need to find something non-destructive to do indoors/around the house suggestions include:

gardening (somehow this just don't sound like you)

woodworking

learning bike repair

model trains

etc.

I actually kinda like gardening, but no room for a garden in the apartment.

Woodworking isn't my strong suit, no fine motor control

I could probably do most of my own bike repair if I wasn't worried about messing the bike up directly before a race.  Maybe I'll go take my mountain bike apart in the living room

My dad loves his model trains.  He has train layout that covers, I would estimate a 20'x30' footprint in his basement.  And the trains are really small, and he has a lot of them.  Not a lot like 10-20 model train engines, but more like 200-300 model train engines.  He paints them all and everything.  I was into it for a while, but it just isn't me.

Send her down here, I'm looking for more semi-neurotic girls to join Dan's Lackluster Triathlon Training Camp ® Our workouts consist mostly of me looking on disapprovingly as the trainees binge drink and take vacations then complain about how they look fat in their tri-suits (as supplied by the camp). Do you think she'd be interested?

Probably if she were allowed to talk about the training habits and lives of people she doesn't really know. Seriously who does that after what 10th grade? I really don't care to know the race schedules, majors, and dating habits of the 50+ people in our club thanks. There are really more important things to discuss. Do I think that they sit around and ponder why it's so difficult for me to move a bike in the forward direction or concern themselves with the status of my dissertation - probably not.

Probably if she were allowed to talk about the training habits and lives of people she doesn't really know. There are 2 hours alloted for that daily.

Seriously who does that after what 10th grade? K, and several of her friends.

If she's hot and has absolutely no interest in dating me, but wants to hang out all the time, I can fax you over the sign-up forms.

It's hard to say (about dating you) as I don't know her type. We've never really discussed boys specifically, just their race schedules. You could fax over the forms, but there is no guarantee they would be returned in a timely manner.

The dating thing isn't really important. I could probably run her off even if I was her type.a And the forms don't need to be returned in a timely manner, just as long as she doesn't train but expects to have a lot of fun on race dayb, and take me out of my training plan as often as possible.

a I'm seriously starting to think that we need a positive self talk TAN. One whole TAN where we refused to beat ourselves up

b I'm sure that could be managed

I don't think that's really self-abuse.  More just a statement of facts based on data from past life experience.  Self-abuse would be "She would run off because I'm boring, fat, dumb, etc..." I don't really get in to that.

Yeah, I figured gardening would be a no go with your apartment though I was surprised about your dad doing model trains since I pulled that out of ya know.

What is you?  Do you like to build things, design, write, talk?  Because it's clear that you need a good non-tri outlet especially come winter time.

I like to help with meaningful projects.  When I lived at home I got to help my mom and her neighbors with all sorts of home repair projects, and I really like doing that sort of stuff.  I like to talk from time to time, but I'm more philosophical than most people my age, so I don't connect well.  I actually go to a religious discussion group because it's the closest thing I can find to philosophical discussion.  They just don't appreciate my point of view very often.  I always wanted to be able to draw, but the whole lack of fine motor control thing never helped with that.

Well that was frickin' amazing.

Storms ALL OVER town. Not a drop on the courts where we were playing tennis until 10 minutes after our final team match finished. Thunder and lightning less than a half-mile in every direction, nothing on the courts.

GREAT light show on the drive home. I <3 me some nice lightning shows. The Meeps was going nuts as usual.

Heated up some leftover broiled salmon and pasta, on my second Bass Ale as we speak. Yum.

Teacher set-up chick hasn't called back. I know there's the 2-day rule and all, but I'm running ou of time before she leaves the country...

Tennis round robin tomorrow after work, should be fun. Hopefully tennis hottie will be there.

Have several more beers and then show up at her house.  Get out on the lawn and start screaming "Why won't you call me back?" That'd get the message across.

Perhaps you should try to do some community service type stuff: habitat for humanity or some such thing.  I mentor and tutor during the school year, which is a great time.

I attempted to volunteer at habitat once and they basically sent me to watch an empty parking lot as the contractors that companies had "volunteered" did all the work on the house.  I'm really hoping that isn't what Habitat is like here, I used to enjoy working with them back home.  But that's more of a summer time thing too, isn't it?

Yeah, RA for sport bikes. There are trails EVERYWHERE for dirt bikes.

They actually had a bike crit at Road Atlanta last weekend. I didn't get to go but I heard it was intense. LOTS of elevation on that track. Hopefully I'll be able to get out there for a track weekend next year.

Leathers can't be THAT much. I still have a hookup at the only BMW motorcycle dealer in the area...

I've never really done the habitat thing as that's not where I feel my strengths lie.  I did however coach for the Special Olympics (swimming) - that was awesome! I would definitely recommend it.

I'm 6'4" with a weird build (all legs) custom sport bike leathers were pushing $1400 the last time I looked.  And that was with exchange rate a few months back.  If I could find pants to zip to my current jacket I'd be ok, but my jacket isn't 100% leather, so I don't know.  And it's hard to find a sport touring track day where I wouldn't have to be in an open class against R1's and other 1000's. Where I'm down 40hp and up 100lbs.

I can understand that. The track weekends with the BMW CCA here are $400, plus lodging and food and incidentals. You KNOW you're gonna eat through a set of brake pads in a weekend, and most of a set of tires.

Don't worry about "competing" on the track. It's actually frowned upon at the track days I've observed.

I know a couple guys who ride only Ninja 250s and 500s, knowing they're slow. But they can out-drive the liter bikes and actually pass them now and again. Until the back straight, that is...

I loooooffff cheese too. Some of the really, really, moldy, veiny, stinky French cheeses are a bit much, as is the cheese with maggots in it from Sicily (Sardinia?), but most are good wif me.
