JChristoff - 2008-09-09 10:55 AM He's training for an Ironman... How much more cardio do you want him to do??

I sort of chuckled to myself when the doctor suggested that too.  I think I have narrowed it down to diet....

Does your doc not know how much you exercise? I feel like they'd remember the patients who are doing an Ironman

I don't tell many people.  It puts too much pressure on me.  The wife does the bragging, which makes me uncomfortable.

I worry that people might think that I feel I'm some sort of stud or masochist - neither is true.  I'm just a chubby kid with a dream to finish one.

The doctor just asked "do you exercise a little, moderate, or a lot?".  I asked what is a "lot" and they said something like 30 minutes a day.

So I said "A LOT"....

Oh, I don't mean that you need to brag about it. But in all honesty, I WOULD tell your doc that you are training for an Ironman. That's a pretty serious undertaking than just hitting the gym 7 days a week, ya know? Plus, I feel like it's probably good for docs to know that sort of thing so they can monitor your health with more complete information.

I know, I'm just not in the habit of talking about it unless it's with other triathletes.  Most people don't understand or comprehend anyway - so mentioning it is a waste of effort.

Kiley,

Tennis elbow arises from aggravation attributed to wrong form of some sort. If you're going to make it better and still hit, you'll need to really smooth out your strokes. It's the same way in tennis, usually caused by aggravation attributed to poor form.

Sometimes it only takes the movment to be a *little* off for it to get inflamed.

Try one of those armbands too, available at your local pro shop for sure, probably at any sporting goods store too.

This is true, but I think a doctor would be more inclined to at least understand just how much pressure that actually puts on your body, even if they're not athletic - moreso that Joe Schmo from your office. I lucked out and got an athlete as a doctor.

I found when I switched to a lighter racquet it help with mine.  I could tell a difference in my grip and everything and didnt get as much of a boing feeling in my elbow each time I hit the ball.

The stiffness of the frame has just as much to do with it as the weight. Shock to arm = no good.

Hi TAN ... so I skipped work today. I slept like a babay!

So is the fauxhawk still in style? Because some dude has one and I want to point and laugh. Would that be inappropriate?

I haven't given it much thought, but I would have to say it's on the way out.  I still see it around, but not as much...
