Hi all.  It's been crazy at work, so it's all I can do to get my workouts logged.  I'm still here though.  I ran the 7 mile leg of the Little Rock Marathon last weekend.  It was a blast.  I had originally planned on doing the half, but didn't think I could do it.  In retrospect, I would have been fine!  Now I'm mad that I didn't do it.  It is definately a goal for 2010...if not the full mary.

RedKnight - Thanks for making my day.  That story was hilarious.  Glad you fared well!

Steve - Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned.  A little greasy food today should help the cloudiness so you will be ready for the weekend.

Jeremey - Please tell me you are a firefighter and your house did not catch fire!

I had a great swim today. Another PB in the water. Feeling good now so I think I will go have a burger and a beer for lunch.  Have a great weekend all.

Congrats on the achievement Carla and glad I could bring a smile to your face

Weekend?  Is it Friday already?  Man, the week flew by, but I still have another one out of the office.  I managed to get a run in during naptime today - felt good.

Steve - no red meat? ever?  How do you live without the occassional steak?  I struggle w/ no meat on Fridays during lent.

I've been working on improving my fit on the bike I'll be using again this year. Picked up a new stem today and will be puting that on tonight.  Hope to find time to get a ride in the next couple days.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Once you go away from red meat for a while and go back.... IT "HURTS!"  I figure anything that can tear up your stomach that bad after not eating in a while, CAN'T BE GOOD!  No I just don't like it, nor do I miss it!  If I were to have to give up pasta, fish, chip/salsa, Jack Daniels.... WE WOULD HAVE ISSUES!!!

Check out the new baby I got today!!! Can't wait!!

I wish it were weekend for me.  My days off are tuesday and wednesday so I'm just getting started on my week.  I had a nice lazy "weekend" though, so i'll quit whining.

Steve I'll take your burgers and you can have my beer.  I can't stand beer but I don't think I could live without red meat!

Member question from SSMinnow...

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1717

we are among the famous BT'ers!!!

Too funny.  They posted my bike question this month too.  It is the only two questions I have ever submitted.

Trevor--Did you sign up for those races yet?

Tony--Good luck.   You will do great.  You have a plan, execute it and remember save the :09s!

Karen- Glad to have you feeling better.  Each day you will get a little stronger.  Have fun at Boot Camp.

Barry-Have fun.  I cannot wait until the ice thaws on our lake in July .  Getting a new wetsuit next week in anticipation of it.

Kim--Keep biking!  You are already a strong runner!

Rob--I think you should sue! JK.  I am glad you are doing well and saved yourself from talking an octave higher.

Steve- a 3:30?  Your optimism is appreciated.  I have 2 more long runs and a race to try to live up to your expectations.  My guess, you're not even close and I will leave it at that

Have a good training day tomorrow. Another run and swim on my dance card.

Yes ma'am I signed up for the spring on June 7th...So that 3 sprint in 4 weeks!!! I'm hardcore baby! The June 7th will be my 1st OWS, so we'll see how it goes. It seems a bit compressed there, but i really wanted to get my 1st OWS early so I can hit some an Oly OWS earlier in the summer instead of the last race,etc.......

Nice out today...I may get a chance to get out on my bike tonight when the kids hit the sack, but realistically tomorrow. Hopefully the weather holds up!

Has anyone raced in a short race (4 mile run) with 5000 or so people?  I have my first race this weekend, it's a short 4 mile run (nothing like Tony's.. good luck!)..  do you think it's possible to actually try for a pb or should i just take it easy and get what i can out of it??  Last yr they had over 6000 participants, i guess they thought it was 1000 too many.

The start may be crazy, but you might be ok... Things usually spread out!  You will find people run on the sidewalks to get around.  If there are a lot of turns it may be tough, but latch on to someone a tad faster, and let them break through the crowds... Good luck!

CrazyLegs in Madison is an 8k and has at least 13,000 people every year.  It's a zoo and the early mile can slow you down.  My advice is to seed yourself faster than you are (Note: not the front of the pack unless you can handle a 6:00 pace or less) and to one side.  Weave to the best of your ability and use elbows if you have to along with a polite "sorry".

No reason not to go for a PR.  The worst that can happen is you go out too fast and blow up.  But even then, you probably only have a mile further to travel. GO FOR IT!

Thanks Suzy and Steve for the advice.  I think I'm going to see how I feel tomorrow morning to see if i can go for the PB..  Depending how many beers i drink tonight..  For some reason beer taste so much better watching the bb games!

A question for all you runners. Do you get calluses (sp) on the outside of your feet? I have developed a couple on the outside of my big toes. Doesn't hurt and doesn't affect my running just wondering.

Occasionally, I will get a little rough spot where my toe hits the shoe repeatedly.  It can start to be a sign you are striking differently so it is something to monitor (not freak over though).  Right before I developed PF, the tips of toe of my toes got rough spots and black toenails.  I had changed my strike pattern for whatever reason and landed in the injury deadzone.   One other thing I do daily is foot massage with a heavy duty cream.  Keeps my feet softer and looking better in sandals.  I also get regular pedicures, but you an decide if you are willing to go that far .

Rob- If you go to get a pedicure, you will become a regular.  It feels so incredible to soak your feet and have them massaged.  Then they use various scrubs and brushes to loosen up the dead skin and the place I go to, you can have your feet and calves massaged for 10 minutes for an extra ten dollars.  I see men there all of the time and think they are really cool to take good care of their feet.  And your feet feel baby soft at the end of it all.  Pedicures in SF cost about 12 dollars so it's an unbelievable deal.  Manicure plus pedicure is about 16 dollars.  I always give a good tip because it seems so inexpensive.

The best part is picking the nail polish color!    Now that's manly!

 BTW, wtg Tony!

I don't see anything wrong with a man getting a pedi.  I don't do it simply because I'd feel bad for the poor person who had to massage my feet.  ha.  I don't even let my massage therapist massage my feet.

Can I get a different color for each toe nail?

And what is a true manly color for your toe nails? Steve you might know the answer to that one.

I don't suppose it makes sense to fly to San Fran for a $16 mani/pedi.  I pay $45 in Madison and while I do get a massage, I am in and out in less than an hour.

Rob and Jeremy -- make it a goal to get a pedicure in '09.  If men shave their legs why shouldn't they take care of their feet?

good point, and I do shave the legs.  I suppose a pedi is in line this year.  But I live in a small town, so I'd have to go to the city to get it done.

now none and thank you.

Suzy, I don't shave my legs. I am afraid of what I might do to them with a straight razor and the electric razor just quits when I rinse it under the tap.
