kirih - 2010-02-23 3:05 PM The only news I have is this morning I finally hit 214! Which is -55, which is OVERWEIGHT!
I've never been so excited to be merely overweight! Hurray!

Bridge going well so far. I think i've finally tweaked the plan to my liking - had to shuffle yesterdays 45 min ride to today so I could recover a bit from the weekend - I was pooped yesterday. I also switched the runs to miles instead of minutes because I really need to focus on getting quality long runs up to just under half marathon distance (~11m), I'm still not quite there yet. I'll cover the other 2-3 miles in the 20 week HIM program.  This 12 week will hopefully get me to comfortably do Oly distance runs on a regular basis, and help build up to planned century ride (non-race) in May. I'm also focusing on swim more because my season opener 2000m OWS is also in May and I want to utterly destroy my time from last year's dismal race in which I had major wardrobe failure. Read about it here for the deets.

Do whatever fits best into your training.  THese milestone b-days need recognition and what better way?

Congrats on moving into the "overweight" category.  I remember moving from obese to overweight several years ago, now I maintain normal with high hopes of shredding body fat like Abbie but so far no luck.

I'll join in on the virtual 50 miler and if it's a nice day hopefully have some gorgeous photos for you. Also, I might have to think up a virtual 40 challenge as my 40th is on March 13th! Maybe a swim - I'll suggest a nice 40s style swim for anyone who wants to join in...

losta - 2010-02-23 11:33 AM Oh, I get it now, a virtual 50 miler on March 14th. I will be back from my trip, if the weather is decent I might be into doing it, I can't see doing a 50 miler on the trainer especially after being in AZ and riding the roads for a week. Maybe we can think of indoor alternatives or metric 50's depending on weather conditions.

Or just take lots of pictures for me when you have a long ride in AZ...that works

I know I will be able to ride outside (weather permitting) on March 9 and 17 and intend on getting in 50+ miles.  I'm thinking of dedicating March 9 to Judi because that is closest to her birthday and March 17 to Kiri because that is closest to her birthday.  I will try and go someplace excessively scenic.  It won't be Pacific Coast Highway because I will be coming from Orange County and that's too far to go.

I got my new workout clothes from Athleta today.  They are a little snug, but not enough to send them back.  I guess I will just have to work at dropping five pounds so that they fit a little better.  They are warm weather clothes so there is no immediate hurry, except for the tri outfit that I wanted to wear on March 7 and 27.  I probably still will, they will just double as compression garments.

Sunday was an official rest day and I have pretty much given myself yesterday and today as rest days, but I will be back on the program tomorrow.  My sore throat and sinus congestion are almost gone and I figure they will be by tomorrow.

Went to the chiropractor today for the first time. Interesting information and my lower back feels so much better! My neck is still a little stiff. I think it's from my workout Monday and not using some muscles in a VERY long time so I may have tensed too much. He helped my neck a little but I'm waiting til the weekend to get back in the pool because I don't want to rotate funny and strain it further.

My left leg is 25mm shorter than my right leg! The doctor asked me if my clothes never fit right..."Well, yeah, but I just assumed that's because I was overweight and has a fat arse..." Huh..who would've thought! So I'll look into inserts for my sneakers and maybe some orthotics. If I can find a decent insert for running that might help some of the hip & lower back pain I get from a long run. I know it's natural to have some difference but the size of 2 decks of cards I think is a bit much. Maybe when I shattered my ankle and had surgery they couldn't fit Humpty Dumpty's pieces completely back together again?

He also pointed out that since I had gall bladder surgery I may have a problem absorbing fat soluble vitamins...A, D, E & K...wow, apparently my pharmacist skills are getting dusty. I should have known that but it never dawned on me!

Another snowstorm coming through my area tonight...I'm down to less than a foot in my yard I thought for sure there would be grass patches by this weekend!!! RATS!

How is everyone's hump day going?

So, it sounds like you have gotten some real orthopedic help here.  Think how much easier it will be for you to do things, like running, once you get yourself "evened out."

And Chuck had gall bladder surgery.  No one ever said anything about fat soluble vitamins and absorption problems.  I now have to go home and look at what we have and assess.  The only one we take extra of (more than just in the multivitamin) is D3.

Have fun playing in your snow.  Otherwise, hump day is going fine.

Wow 25mm seems like a big difference. I bet inserts will help quite a bit.

I'm having a hard time getting back on food-track with running around packing and running to the store for stuff we need for the trip. Bleh. I get thrown off track so easily. I think these last 30lbs are going to be a struggle to get/keep off.

Run test went well last night. I got my run HR zones now and I'm sorta happy that it looks like I can still RUN while at the top of zone1/low2... before I'd have to walk to hit those zones. SLOW run... but run none the less. For my lactate Threshold test I was able to hold 5.5mph.

Interesting thing that most peoples Bike HRzones are about 10bpm lower then run. My bike and run were about the same. I'm not sure what that indicates really, but may explain why I'm better on the bike when compared to my other fitness levels.

My bike heart rate zones are considerably lower than for running, but I didn't know to expect that.  The fact that yours are the same is interesting, but I am not sure what to make of it.

And for your last thirty pounds, you're an inspiration.  Don't get discouraged.  It took determination to get the first 120 pounds off - don't lose your focus now.  The thing about going to Europe is that there is sooooo much walking, I always drop a couple pounds.  Have fun and stay the course while you are there.

I got my swim in this morning and will get in a trainer ride tonight.  I am not at 100% yet, but close enough to resume workouts.

What does everyone else have on tap for today?

Oh yeah.  I got an iPhone Tuesday night.  I don't have it completely configured as I have two months left to go on my T-Mobile contract on my rapidly deteriorating Blackberry.  My work doesn't yet support the iPhone so I can't get my work email on it yet, but that is expected to happen within the next month.  I am out of the office a lot and need to stay connected by email (I'm the chief of my division).   So for right now I have two phones, but will scale back to one by the end of March.

One of the first things I am going to do is get a Withings scale, just like Lisa.

Going for a run tonight. Neck is feeling much better, along with my back. I see the chiro again tomorrow and I'll ask about orthotics then. Going to a brief swim clinic Saturday evening in DC put on by Sarah Thorpe...former Australian National Open Swimming Champion. Hopefully I'll get some pointers on my stroke to help me improve.

Going to try to set up my new trainer in my basement this weekend..I'm so gadget stupid I'm a little worried but I'll call Blackburn (since the trainer is theirs) if I have issues (trainer issues anyway..lol).

One of the kids in my office uses Run Keeper Pro and really likes it  It seems unnecessary because I use the Garmin but I don't think that is going to stop me from getting it.  I will check out those other apps.

Hey gang!  This is it!  29 days/28 days by the time some of you read this.

I'm plotting my weekend.  I've got an 8  mile ride on Saturday and a 50-60 mile ride with a 7 mile climb at mile 30.  (just like our CA70.3)  I've also asked my coach for a private 1 hour swim lesson.

I can't believe I'm less then a week away from meeting Lisa!  We'll have to take good pics to post for you all.

Keely - Glad you got your back figured out.  Better now then later.  I hope you feel better.
Leah - Congrats on your IPhone.  I am thinking about getting a new phone but can't pull the trigger.
Debb - I'm excited about trip.  You'll have to give up pics and update along the way.
Queenie - Do you have a lot of bikers for your birthday ride?
Kiri - You are working your tail off!  Great job!
Scott - What's happening?  Are you still around?

Lisa and Kate have fun hanging out! Maybe you'll get to ride a bit together?

Leah - My husband used LoseIt! on his Itouch last fall and it worked really well for him at the time.

Kiw - Enjoy the run hope it works out for you.

Kir - Thanks for the York tip. We're going to check it out on Sunday.

Scott - Wake up!

Queen - enjoying the last days of the 40's?

As for photos and such... I'll try and send a few. I'm bringing the laptop. Leaving tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) and we'll be there Sunday morning. No clue what I'm doing there but I guess exploring is half the fun.

Leah - I LOVE my iphone!! I have RunKeeper on it but haven't taken it with me on a run. If you have a Garmin you probably won't use the RunKeeper app. It's very handy and has quite a few great apps for triathlons, training, exercise, fitness and nutrition. Plus quite a few time wasting games..LOL

I have the Go Swim, icore Stretch, RunKeeper, Swim Planner, TriCalc (bleh on that one), and iFitness. Still debating on a few others to purchase but most of mine have been the freebies to see if I'd want to upgrade.

Run was FREEZING last night. High winds and then snow started overnight but it's just dusting because of the winds..so we're having a "Snowicane" they're calling it. When is spring going to get here?!?!?

And make sure you pop in a pub for a pint and some yorkshire pudding, the honest to goodness genuine thing...

Hi everyone.  I am in Northern California.  Not as interesting as going to England, but at least I get to see my grandchildren.  We saw Disney on Ice today and enjoyed it very much.  My almost-three year old granddaughter is as "princess" as they come so she especially enjoyed it.

I got in a run tonight - not long and not fast - but at least I got it in.  It is always tough to get in the workouts when I am up here.

What did everyone else do today?

Hey gang.  Busy day today.  Planted a veggie "box garden" in the back yard with the kids, eye appointment, birthday party, costco run, bought a new phone, and dinner with family.  I also managed to get in a 4 mile run.  Not fast but not slow.  It is supposed to rain today so we have been waiting for it all day.  It never came!  I am bummed b/c I think it is going to rain on my big ride tomorrow.

It is 11:30 and I hear the wind picking up.  bummer.  My husband (aka "Safety man") said we should do our big climb if it is wet out.  He is afraid that going down those steep hills with wet breaks isn't a good idea.   He is probably right.

We'll see how it turns out.  I was so looking forward to this ride!
