That IS great, Leah! Have a great race tomorrow, too!

About the carbs...I think one of my problems (besides that I just LOVE carby things) is that all of our carbs are "healthy." We buy hard white and soft wheat berries and grind our own flour...been doing that for over a dozen years now. We also grind corn, kamut, and such (even rice.) Our rice is basmati brown; everything is organic or certified chemical-free.  I haven't bought or used white flour or sugar or rice in like a hundred years...I guess I'm just saying that I get in trouble and overeat because it's all "healthy." (Problem is, so is my appetite!!) I was doing pretty well eating one carb serving at a meal, but my daughter has been trying a bunch of new bread recipes the last week or so...YUM! We have had millet muffins, cinnamon rolls, english muffins, and three different batches of regular bread...and, today, she made some beautiful buns to have homemade BBQ sandwiches tonight for supper! (I guess I shouldn't mention the snickerdoodles she made for us to have with afternoon coffee today!) Is it any wonder that my weight is going down SO SLOWLY???!!!

Where do you get your wheat berries and what do you use to grind them? I've been considering this for a long time.

I order a lot of our food from Something Better Natural Foods out of Michigan. I've been buying from them since we started eating this way. They're great people and the prices are good...I have a Whisper Mill to grind my grains; no, it DOES NOT whisper...it screams!

Yeah, we're living the good life, but y'all didn't tell me how to eat all this health food and not be chubby...that was my real underlying question!!!

Howdy everyone - Just got my 3 yr. old back from a sleepover w/ my parents. Yippee! It was so lonely and quiet without her. Katie didn't ask for her once. I guess having Mike and I all for herself, she didn't really care where Em was. He just took them to his parents house for lunch - they live in town so Im off for a run and will wind up there for a ride home.  Happy Sunday!

As I was standing in the torrential downpour, contemplating the meaning of "70% chance of light rain..."

That's how the race went.  Not well, but I finished and burned 1466 calories, according to my Garmin.  It was rainy, windy, cold.  Tough to get a rhythm going.  And then I don't usually need the porta-potties during races, but this morning I did,  I think because the race was a little earlier than most.  I stood in the first line for about ten minutes before deciding that I might have better luck later.  The next time, I stayed in line, about twenty minuters.  Maybe more.  So I spent at least thirty minutes standing in line.  The killer part of that was that after the second time, I just couldn't get going again.  My official time will be somewhere around 3-1/2 hours, so after allowing for that thirty minutes, it wasn't all that bad (for me).

But when it was over, my fella picked me up and gave me dry clothes and took me out for pancakes and eggs.  A regular lumberjack's breakfast (in addition to the pre-race bagels).  I think I have already eaten my 1466 calories burned.   I got home and took a bubblebath, had a short nap and here I am.

Thank you for all the well-wishes.   Hope everyone's weekend is going terrific.

Very tough run circumstances.  Kathy did IMLP in a downpour and can commiserate on the difficulty of running in that.

My first tri was in the remnants of a hurricane.  MISERABLE doesn't begin to describe how you feel in that weather...yet wild horses can't keep you away from it!

I would think it would be scary to do the swim in either of those conditions.  Not to mention biking in rain and wind.  Wow!  I can't even imagine.  Puts my little run - and the California version of rain and wind - in perspective.

It rained for 16 hours I was racing IMLP and total rain of 4 inches. Folks that live there 25 years said it was the worst they recall.

Going down a hill that is 10K long that I normally hit 52 mph, but with the rain coming down so hard I couldn't keep my eyes open, if I was shutting my eyes I decided I would use my brakes to slow down.

Run was fine in the rain other than being cold but by that time you didn't really feel it. I was super surprised that I did not get one blister even though both feet were totally wet before I even got on the run course as the exit from womens change tent had a 10 foot round puddle and no way to get around it.

It was a tough day but one that makes me feel like I can do more than I thought I could.

It was easy to pee on the go biking and running with all the rain...just washed it all away and it would warm me up.

Leah days like you had today and my IMLP race are ones we look back and see ourselves differently than we had before...we are tough, we handled it, we perserved, we conquered it...yep we can do more than we thought we could. Congrats!

Props to you for sticking it out Leah!! I am sure there were a few who either never showed up or left without racing.  That bubble bath must have felt great!
