I do absolutely agree with one thing I learned in this thread and there is no possible scientific evidence you can offer that will change my mind. The Huskers ARE going to win a National Championship this year!!!
And you cannot find any scientific evidence that they will even have a chance at a NCAA title this year. :-) |

I guess that was my point that it just does not matter. OP, if you want to see more LGBT role models in sports, great. I hope you do. If it helps some, great. If others don't care, great. If others disagree with LGBT role models in sports... well I guess then don't become a LGBT role model in sports. I really liked Daniel's suggestion to become one. I wish you much success in that endeavor if that is what you do. I was really trying to understand, not debate. I hope I have not shown any disrespect in that attempt. On the one hand, this is the only way to end this kind of discussion at a reasonable gathering. OTOH, the fact that the discussion is going the way it is, I think, proves the need to have strong role models in "manly sports". Not just GLB athletes in women's tennis and golf, or men's figure skating, or diving. But more traditional men's sports such as football, baseball, basketball (OK, and hockey). And I don't know that someone who is on the BT board is likely to be playing those sports at a pro level.
While we don't agree on a lot of things GB, it appears we are pretty close on this one. I just wanted to add that the most important role model to help reduce the amount of prejudice/bigotry towards lgb doesn't necessarily have to be lgb, the parents, the attitude in the upbringing about being open minded and accepting of all people. |
