ladybug05 - 2009-06-01 6:34 PM Thanks everyone! You would be surprised how motivating a run in the cemetary can be!!

Leah - that's terrific, I will get in touch.

I am considering doing the Ludington Lighthouse in August.  I would also like to try the Crim but maybe only the 5 or 8k.  I think I need the summer to train, guess three weeks was pushing it.  I kinda freaked in the swim and it took me 12 min versus 8 min in the pool.

Thanks again for the welcome!!

I think that's not unusual! I did my swim at HI in 11-12 minutes...and I'm usually 8 minutes for 400 in the pool. Read the threas 'WHOA' and you can read about the folly of me and one other tri newbie!

btw...welcome!

I read somewhere that it is very common, almost EXPECTED that you will not come close to your pool times when swimming like distances in open water.
I guess it makes sense for several reasons... you don't usually have 40+ other people swimming in your lane at the pool, and you don't have a wall to push off of in the open water (unless you strategically use those 40 other people

Edit:  Plus... don't forget that they tack on the run to T1 onto your actual swim time.  ( I just remembered that part)

I've also thought about registering for this one, as my parents have a cottage there. I will have (hopefully) completed the three T-Rex series races by then.

I'm wondering if anyone has feedback about this race. I have seen some negative comments about 3D races here but being a newb, I have no first-hand experience.

Alright, I'm brand new to the Tri world.  As in never done one but hoping for later this summer or fall.  I recently moved to the Lansing area and am looking to find some fun folks to train with.  I have a road bike and mountain bike, and enjoy trail running.  Let me know where to go.  Also have a bit of interest in maybe getting into the world of adventure racing...???

Hello.  I'm new to the whole Tri thing.  I'm signed up for my first one at Island Lake in August!!!  I decided to go for it as a goal for my better life style and weight loss challenge.

I've got a lot of work ahead of me, but I 'm looking forward to crossing that finish line!

Welcome Hoff, Jon,

There are a lot of folks all over the place in Michigan, and of all levels of greatitude.  You will find that often people post up when they are going to be at a certain park or doing a certain ride/run/swim.  Feel free to reply and tag along.

There are a LOT of knowledgable people here, too.  (I'm just barely smart enough to know that I don't know a whole lot about triathlons   Don't be shy about asking ANYTHING.

And don't be shy about showing up to train with others.  For the most part, if there are not others training at your speed, those that show may end up going your speed.  We welcome all levels of fitness here.

Trixie-

Where do you usually go to run or ride or what not?  I would love to get together with some folks for a ride.  I imagine I would be the slow poke of the group however the best way to improve is to train with those faster than yourself so I would jump at the chance to gain any tips from you veterans.

Hi all!  My wife and I are both hopelessly addicted to triathlon!  I figured we should introduce ourselves instead of just lurking on the forum...

Names: Josh and Amanda

Not so much "beginner" triathletes - going on our third season (14 races for Josh and 20 for Amanda).

Age Group: 30-34 for both, er, I mean 29 for Amanda (women never seem to want to move into that 30 yo category).

We're in the Birmingham/Royal Oak area, but don't train outside too much.  Maybe we can get into some sort of outdoor routine and join in on some of these forays to IRLA or Kensington sometime.

Amanda did her first race of the season today and I'm looking at Island Lake next weekend as my first.  We'll also be at Triceritops (the first T-Rex tri) and then up north at East Jordan - 3 races in one week sounds like a lot.  I guess that's why it's an addiction...

Good luck to everyone in all of their racing endeavors!

Hi Josh and Amanda!

Def. try to make some of the gatherings we do.  This really is a great group of people.  also, I am in Ferndale, so ping me if you want to do rides, runs, carpool, etc.

Did Amanda do Motor City?  I was there with my team (Racing Greyhounds) and it could not have been better weather for it!  Awesome day!

Most get there for the 5:30 jaunt to Trout Lake (if you haven't been there, you need to.  Great for OWS).  We then will generally at least ride a loop of the park.  Sometimes, people will swim/bike/run, but swimming almost always happens.

We sometimes get a pretty good sized group out there from BT.  I work in Farmington Hills, so I just head there after work, otherwise I'd offer to carpool.

Name: Timm

Tri History: None

Tri Goals for 2009: I want to run a duathlon in Belle Isle in October.  We'll see were I go from there.  My brother is strongly encouraging me to tackle the dalmac in 2010.  That idea scares me.

Age group: I'm 28

Personal: I'm married with four beautiful little girls.  I rode my bike A LOT right up thru my teenage years and then got away from it.  Now I'm very out of shape and a few friends introduced me to BT.  I think I'm gonna like it here.

Area: Lansing
