![]() | ![]() Left Brain - 2013-04-17 1:48 PM There was NO third explosion at the Library. To the media's credit the Boston PD (Police Commissioner Ed Davis) did state this in a press conference - before they corrected themselves. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stupid question, but I figure someone here will know the answer. Given that Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty, how do they decide if this was a federal or state crime? Obviously if it ends up being the work of a terrorist group, then it's clearly a federal crime. But what if it's just some lone nutjob like James Holmes? He killed more people but is only being prosecuted by the state. |

One reporter just said, "we are not going to say anything else until we here from the FBI"......hey, there's a novel idea, report the "news" when you actually have some, and not just rumors. Let's review: There were NO unexploded devices. There was NO cutting of cell phone service. There was NO third explosion at the Library. They reported genders wrong of persons who were killed. ....and on and on....and now this, there has been NO arrest made. TV "journalism" in this country needs to be completely re-tooled. Again, shameful.
I did not know you were working the case in Boston! |

Read the headline they put out, then read the quote. In fact, it was a fire, and not an explosion. What the news does is embellish whatever they are given to fit the story they are running with. it happens constantly. Remember Newton? I recall hearing after one of the thwarted attacks that the use of high explosives leading to a homicide was a violation of Federal Law regardless of whether it was done by an individual or an identified terror group. McVeigh isn't a good indication because he blew-up the Federal Building which is Federal jurisdiction. I'm interested to hear what the experts think on this one. |

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said at a press conference moments ago that a third explosion has occurred in Boston at the JFK Library. He asked people in Boston to stay home. It’s unclear whether the third incident is related to the first two explosions. The JFK Library event was initially reported by many to merely be a fire. Says Davis: “It’s literally just unfolding. There’s no specifics. There was an explosion.” UPDATE: BPD is now saying the JFK incident is? fire-related and was not, in fact, an explosion. EDIT here's the video. He does say there was an "incident" but then goes on in his next sentence to say it was an explosion. 1:50 in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeTQRJL537E Edited by lisac957 2013-04-17 2:37 PM |

Fact is that between this and the Benghazi incident as the latest sudden, catastrophic incidents we seem to get instant-news like instant-dinners. There are calories in instant-dinners, but they're not necessarily good for you. There are details in instant-news, but it's rarely right. Just a note to those like me who were like "why haven't they caught the guy yet?" I looked-up the OKC timeline and McVeigh wasn't identified as the suspect until he sat in custody in a county jail in Oklahoma for 3 days without any specific charges after being pulled-over for missing a license plate and carrying a weapon with a concealed permit that wasn't valid for Oklahoma. Some patrolman could have the guy who did this sitting in his cell in some little town in upstate NY right now. Hopefully they do and hopefully we have sufficient evidence to put someone away. |

It could be a domestic terrorist attack or international, but it's still a terrorist attack so the feds are involved and I assume would be prosecuted under federal law. I would assume that Mass would let them have this one, but I guess they could fight for jurisdiction later? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lisa - read the headline here. If you google "3rd explosion at marathon" or anything similar you will get more of the same. The commisioner never said anything about a possible "bomb"....he just didn't. He even said the they didn't know if the "explosion" was connected. The news outlets ran off with it as a "possible bomb", or "possible bomb blast" and on and on. Who said that? The Commisioner? No, he didn't. I'm going to stick with my origional statements all the way around.....the news outlets are shameful in their willingness to embellish to fit their needs/ratings/viewership. Oh yeah, in most of the stories you google you'll also read about hoe the PD was using a water cannon to dismantle 2 other devices that were found.....also false. You just can't defend what they do. Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Heck, here is a post from page 3 of if this very thread..... "Twitter is confirming a 3rd bomb at JFK Library. 2 more devices have been found and eliminated" The fact is, the media, in many forms, ran off with "3rd bomb"....who said that? Who verified that it was a bomb? Who verified that two more devices were found? Nobody did. The Official word, which IS the news of the event, was that there was no 3rd bomb, and no other devices. Who verified that a suspect was arrested today? Nobody did. The Official word was to ask the media to stop reporting things that were not factual. (don't remember the exact quote.....I'm sure someone can find it)
