I'm a (tri) virgin, too. The other virginity went YEARS ago. I'll be popping my tri cherry in October at the Subaru Women's Triathlon Series down in San Diego. I'm trying really hard not to freak myself out over it, too.

Yes, just like Mila said ... Bunny dearest, no need at all to freak out ... believe me, we will all help you and coach you through getting on the bike.

Women's tris indeed are great. Unbelievably supportive. You will see women and equipment of every imaginable age shape color and size. You will NOT be DFL and even if you are, it's celebrated. It's amazing ... people are cheering like mad for the last in-comers like it's IronMan. And in a way, it really is.

FYI I came in DFL on the bike in my first tri ... by far. On a three loop course, the next-to-DFL had lapped me.

Same tri I placed in my (fairly large!) age group at in March. Same bike, too. This time I used the different gears, though ... or so I thought ... after the tri, which had grinding hills, I discovered I still had a gear left! Yippee!

Thanks, Mila! The only part that really concerns me is the bike. I still haven't exactly mastered learned to ride yet. I am working on it though!

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't own a bike and hadn't ridden one for more than 20 years (yes, I am that old ) when I registered for my first tri.

What kind of bike do you have, Melissa?  You will get the hang of it... just ride lots .

Hi Terri!

I think those are the major highlights  

I've had a major crazy busy day so haven't been online much...sorry about that!  So much to read on here!  Theres more in my log if you are interested.  None is that thrilling but it's just the way it goes sometimes.  Actually, my youngest started preschool today, so I am both elated and sad at the same time.  Just had a nice run, worked out some kinks.  Will log on in a while to read logs and such!

It's a 2008 Cypress hybrid from Giant, Mila. Not the sexiest or fastest of bikes, but she's my first.  

Ohhhh... I dunno... all bikes are sexy as far as I'm concerned!!!! 

My friends told me that they knew I was serious about cycling and "this tri thing" (as they affectionately refer to it) when I started noticing the bikes and analyzing the bike fit before noticing the guys on the bikes .

Wow, this is one BUSY and FUN group!  If I thought I had trouble keeping up before, I can see I am in BIG trouble now!  I can't wait to have a little more time to hang out with you all . . . right now I am buried at work and have company in town, so I apologize in advance for being scarce!!

Again, I sure hope things slow down soon so I can get in here more!!
