When is everybody starting their offical training? I start Mon. the 23rd. 22 week program. This will be my 2nd im. Fla. first. Been laid off from my job, so I have plenty of time to train. Hope the weather warms up soon. How is everybody feeling? George

Wow I have been upset because I thought I was starting late. Which program is 22 weeks?  I should check it out.

I don't have any official start.  IMAZ sort of led into the Disney Marathon, which is sort of leading into the spring marathon and tri season which will sort of meld into the IM/tri season.  No breaks, which I am already regretting.

My Physical Therapist trained me for IMFL with the same program. 3week build, then 1 week you cut back. The 4th week gives your body time to adapt to the training. It worked fine for me. My first im I just wanted to finish. Not really trying to qualify for Kona. It's a long day and alot can happen. Will this be your first im?

Starting?

I'm in week 8 already. But like previously mentioned, you're never really out of training. Always doing something.

I've had alot of physical labor the past week or so (house stuff) so my body is quite fatigued. Still training, but at an easier pace.

I'm out.

Complete tear of my Achilles... am having surgery on Monday, 6-9 months until the doctor says that I could think about running again.  So, good luck to you all.

Was shooting baskets with a couple of BT friends.  Someone discarded a candy wrapper on the court.  Stepped on the candy wrapper, and *Pop!*  Total freak thing.

Wow.  Considering you got injured due to someone else's carelessness I'd say you have a really good attitude about it.  Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

"Official" training does not begin until nearly the end of March.  I am using a plan from BT, which is the same as the one I used last year.  It is 17 weeks.  But, like someone said, not ever really out of training.  I have been using an off season plan since 11/1 that actually ends this week.  I just need to find something to fill the gap.  I'll either repeat the last 4 weeks of the current plan or maybe the last 4 weeks of one of the off season plans from BT.

Train well everyone!

I have been riding big hills during my Base training ... 60 mi and 5100 feet up last week (2 big hills, one 8 mi at 5% the other 5 mi at 8%); then Saturday went up the big hill (10 mi all up @5%) to see the ToC riders come down...I may be far from Lake Placid, but I now have great closeups of Lance and Levi and Big George (see my logs).

Hope everyone is doing okay, and NewLeaf's surgery today goes well!

I would love to see the pics of Lance, Levi and George.  Your logs are locked to me from viewing.  You have to and me to your friends list, I guess.  I followed the tour of CA all last week.  The last few stages were very exciting.

With all that climbing you’re doing you should be well trained for LP.  I like hilly bike one of the reasons I chose LP.

Just popping in to say hi - AdCo (the husband) and I will be volunteering this year and signing up for 2010.   I think right now we're going to be timing volunteers both at the start and at the later shift of the finish.

Any other volunteers looking to ride a loop the day before the race?

I've been procrastinating to post this for a while now but if anyone is looking to join a training camp this is just another option. We've done it for the past 3 years and it is been a blast, lots of training, all abilities welcome, coaching and support included. Happy training!

Traffic,

Hey all.  First IM'er here.   I was able to get a place about 20miles outside of LP. How is car traffic that day?  I think my "support crew" will be coming in waves and I want to see how they can get in/out of town.  thanks

Last year while spectating and volunteering, I found this really nice dirt (well, mud in the rain) parking lot right down the street from the race.  It's in the perfect spot for being away from the race and easy to get in and out while things are going on.  You can see it in the middle of this map:

Lake Placid Parking

You can see the oval right up the street.  There were plenty of cars there but it wasn't so bad that you couldn't find a spot.  I was also coming from the Saranac Lake direction and it was easy to get to this spot from there.

I found parking during the week to be worse.

Sorry to diverge from the recent posts, but just wondering where people are standing in terms of their "long" workouts up to this point.   I feel behind after some stomach illnesses.  But currently I just completed my longest run 14miles (finally outside now that the snow and ice are off the roads in upstate NY!), but still on the trainer, where my longest ride to date has been 60 miles.

Noone has to answer I just thought maybe I could gauge where I am at if people are within this range, less or more.
