Master 2014 Ohio | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread bananatoes - 2009-04-09 2:33 PM nothing I like more than going 20 mph on a bike in shorts with a wet body in sweltering 48 degree heat. Seriously-how does one dress for this? tube socks on the arms and just suck it up? Just go fast. The faster you go the sooner it'll be over the sooner you can get into a warm parka. Last year I wore my race singlet and threw a long sleeve shirt over it for the bike. I took it off again for the run, I was pretty warm by then even though it was still cool out. |

Seriously-how does one dress for this? tube socks on the arms and just suck it up? LOL!!! I've been wondering the same thing myself. I was just planning on the tri suit for the swim, throwing-on my UA shirt with a jacket for the top, and slipping on my tights over the bottom. If there's anything better I'm up for it! |

Expert 1123 Columbus | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread What to wear: How much do transitions matter to you? If you are not looking to shave 15 seconds from your race put on a long sleeve shirt. Tights -add another 30 secs. Remember you are wet so you either towell dry real well (takes time) or put clothes on over a damp body (takes time) If it is 40º+ at the start of the swim I will plan on only tri shorts, no show socks, race number belt (is the number bib required to be worn during the bike?), bike shoes and helmet (and likely sunglasses) -I may put cotton in my ears if it is cold. If it is in the 30's at the start of the swim I will prob wear a tank top during the bike and maybe arm warmers (cut off tube socks I can discard) precipitation will not change my attire. |

Veteran 207 Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread How do we get into the pool? No beach to run from. I'm thinking there are a lot of people who probably wouldn't like diving from the racing blocks. Do we jump in en mass? Do we have to push off from or touch the starting wall? Can we dive? I come from a swimming background where you must touch the wall (in proper form) at each turn or be disqualified. Is it like that here? Will people be hanging on the wall? |

Champion 7233 | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread you start one at a time, and snake through the lanes. you have to touch the wall ateach end. the slower people sometimes will stop at thewalls. |

Wore my race shorts biked 2.25 miles and swam a 350 warm up > did a 450 yd swim (it took over 6 minutes -yikes!) > transitioned to the bike (took 90 seconds - double yikes!!), road 3.5 miles hard mo time kept but I am riding short rides slower than I want my race pace to be > t2 took close to a minute > ran 2 miles at tempo pace. I am not where i wanted to be. It is too late to gain fitness so my week plan: eat and rest well all week, lift today, maintain fitnes and practice transitions by getting wet > t1 > short bike > t2 > short run M, T, W, Th. rest Friday. Saturday turn in a sub 6 swim, sub 1 min t1, 21 mph avg, 30 sec t2sub 19 5k |

Veteran 207 Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread Do we dive or jump into the pool? Can we use a racing block? Do we have to go back to touch the starting wall after entering the water and starting down the lane. Is there race ettiquette if we're passing or being passed? |

Veteran 207 Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread bruehoyt - 2009-04-12 1:00 PM . how far is it to teh t1 entry mat? have far from the transition entry mat to the exit? I saw the pool with someone who raced this last year. He pointed to a door on the far wall and said that is the door we go out to get to the bike transition area. He said we start in the lane farthest from that door then serpentine down, progressing until we get out at the nearest pool point to the door. If I understood him correctly, the TA is immediately outside that door in a parking lot. Don't remember if there were any steps from the door. I don't remember specific distances or understand the entry mat stuff enough to even guess at those. It did seem pretty short distances as I understood it - 200 yds max? |

Champion 7233 | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread there is a starting mat at the pool edge, you have to jump in feet first. you swim down one lane, cross over, swim back in the next. you exit thep ool near the exit door, run outside, down a ramp and around to the transition entrace, roughly 20-25 sec. |

Expert 769 Alpharetta (until we find a home) | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread I did a 400y earlier this week and hit 5:58. I think I registered with a 5:50 or 5:55 so I apologize if my skinny white butt holds anyone up (HFP asked for yard time not meters correct?). I havent been on my bike for a week since I had the great idea of riding in plain underwear (and shorts) and injured my taint (road rash on my bits?) and why I am posting this I do not know. But feel good about the run. My only goal is to beat my only previous sprint (1:16). Barring major mishap and alien abduction I should do it. |

What's in a packet? This is my first triathlon. No, don't make the extra trip. Get up early and plan to get get to the site 1.5-two hours before the race. Get your packet then, go somewhere quiet and sort it all out. If you have questions ask one of the volunteers at check-in or another athlete. Us triathletes are a pretty friendly lot. We'll answer your questions. One thing to consider before the morning of the race is where you will pin your run number. On your shirt is just fine- but decide if you're going to wear the shirt while you ride. Brue and I will be there early, I'll be in a yellow BT shirt that has some stuff about Ironman Kentucky on the back. Look for me, we'll get you sorted out if you need help. Spend the night before relaxing and making sure your transition bag is packed with everything you need. Most of all, breathe this week. Relax, you've done the workouts, you're ready. You'll have a great race. |

I just asked about the time, because I entered my time for an 800m swim, so I thought I would get placed all the way to the back. I was told that it didn't really matters because a lot of people enters the wrong time. What they will do is get everyone together before the start and separate into groups based on time range, and then they will get folks started based on those groups... |

Champion 7233 | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread exactly, in all honesty many people dont even know there swim times or dont swim what they think they can, as long as you start close to where you should, it wont matter as your time starts when you cross the mat. |

Meeting at 7:15. Race starts 7:30. Set up and packet pick up. It seems like 630 would be cutting it close. Anyone staying in Oxford? I live in Dayton and is only an hourish but that is still mucho early. I checked on hotels and all full says the websites. (not that I expected much 5 days prior). I have a friend coming down from cleveland and we are trying to find something a little closer if ossible. |

Master 1887 Loveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: Miami University Student Foundation Triathlon : Official Thread I was watching the Cincy weather last night and it's supposed to get up to 70 (with sunshine) on Saturday with a low of 46. Even at 46 and wet - since it'll more likely be close to that at 7:30 in the morning - it won't be as bad as I'd imagined. I know the weather could change, but this was good news to hear right before I went to bed. |
