You can pick up a sleeveless suit for around $100. i think rental is around$40. You get a big advantage swimming in a wetsuit. Its up to you how fast do you want to go. You wont get hypothermic on this swim but the water is not warm. Even without the flotaion advantage I would wear mine. I get to use it for a couple early season races also.

Go sleeveless and you will be fine.  Don't remember the temp but you won't regret sleeveless.

I had a full last year and was actually hot.  you could have gone w/o a wetsuit but sleveless will be fine.  With the current you may only be in the river like 2 or 3 minutes.

I would go sleeveless.  The water is a bit chilly but once you get going its not bad at all.  I got a little warm in a sleeveless last year.

I used a sleeveless last year and it was great . . . with the assistance of the current and boyancy of the wetsuit I felt like I was flying!  I used wetsuitrentals.com (on website).  The fit was really good.  But I didn't think about the additional return postage ($21).  When I saw the wetsuit sale ($99) from Xterra I decided to buy the sleeveless.

Now that I own a wetsuit I "feel" like a triathlete!

Alright, rookie question time!  How far apart are the aid stations on the run, and what do they have at them, just water?  How about on the bike, this bottle exchange thing, what exactly is that, do you start off with bottles they give you or do you swap your own and hope you can find it after the race?

There are 3 aid stations on the bike. Every 15 milles or so. the have water, last year gatorade endurance lemon lime and I think they had powerbars. You need your own bottles. They just hand you a bottle of gatorade or water not a sports bottle. I use a aerobottle so I just refilled and tossed the bottle they give you. The run I think they had a station every mile or so. Again gatorade and water, Powerbars I think some had gels. i remember 1 had cookies, oranges and such. They also had sponges to cool off with. I carry my own gels, usally races have some odd flavor the gel sponser is trying to get rid of. The course was well supplied. I heard that some of the stations ran out of stuff later in the race but not sure how late in the race. None of us had that problem. Some of my friends started in later waves and did 6:30+ and did not have trouble with aid stations. Im sure if they ran out of something it will be corrected this year.

Okay lurking out here for a couple of weeks and I am leaning toward doing this race.  I have been training for the IM B2B and want to do a half before that race.  It will be my second HIM this year.  I echo the thank you to Randy for taking the time to post the bike course!  Looking foward to meeting some of you at the race.  I think I will be coming in Friday.

FYI- For those still straddling the fence or not registered yet the race is 90 percent full. Seems to be filling fast last few weeks. Based on this info there are approx. 300 slots left.

I am also a newby here so I will ask another question.  Are there changing tents or do you lay out your transition area as you would in a Sprint or Olympic?  How are transitions handled in a HIM?
Thanks
Tom

Erin-

To minimize T time, i go with just tri shorts and tri top under the wetsuit....you'll come out and have a stripper whip you right out of it~

Please don't be naked under the wetsuit, or do....your discretion...

Erinmac...
Would LOVE to see ya join us, hurry thought as its almost sold out. Ann and I did this one last year and it was a blast...so much nicer then 70.3 Fla.
Great FAST swim, rolling bike and an all flat (on streets) run thru downtown.
Ann and I are staying at the Marriot for three nights (fri, sat, sun) its the place to be if you can get in as its the headquaters for the race. So nice to just go downstairs and do everything, then take the elevator up to your room
Also it has a GREAT Italian place in the lobby that does a pasta toss the night before the race. We met Laura and Greg Bennett last year. We have a table for 6 all set for 5pm (PM me)
Hope you desided to do it!!

Subject: Fresh Sod!!!!!!
A group of us met at the transition area this afternoon for an upstream swim (Brittany won, she's an animal), and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they had just sodded most of the transition area!  This was the big gravel parking area where the bike racks were located last year.  This is a huge investment on the part of the city to show their support for this event.  They even had a firetruck out watering the sod, see the picture below.

If they can keep vehicle traffic off the grass until September, this will be a great improvement over last year.
