BellinghamSpence - 2006-04-01 7:04 AM Am I the oldest at 48 of the BTers competing at IMCDA?

They allow 48 year olds to compete in IM's? I'm just a pup at 40.

Just out of curiosity...are any of you guys/gals that are doing IMCDA driving from a significant distance away?  My plan right now is to fly, because the drive would take me almost three days.  But I have a few friends who drive all over the country to do races, including driving from Texas to IMLP and IMCDA.  I'm wondering if driving might be the way to go so I'll have all my gear with me all the time, I won't have to rent a car or buy a bike box, etc, etc.  It just seems that the drive might wear me out and make me more tired on race day.

Anyone have experience driving a significant distance for an IM?  How did it work out?

I'm coming from New Orleans. I would love to drive because everything I need is in my car (and stays in my car), but that wears me out just thinking about it. It would also make the trip two day longer at least. I am worried about the shipping the bike thing. I've never done that. good luck, Alicia

Looks like it. I'm 59, but knee surgery two weeks ago has set my running back a bit. Planning on swimming and biking the course before race day, and being a cheerleader on race day.

I guess I am young at 39.  Figured I would do the race at 39, then again next year at 40.  Maybe moving up in age bracket will help!  Doubt it.  Feeling good right now..looking forward to more training.

Here are some goals for Finister!!

Sub 12 hour for IMCDA...(figured I would start big); 185 pounds by race day; Log 1,000 miles on bike by race day; raise $75,000 for CASA by doing Ironman

Enough for now!!!

Subject: Ready for today!
Hi to all the CDA'ers over here. I blog here with some friends and check in from time to time on the forum. I am ready for a rest day today. That is it. Maybe, actually might do a spinerval workout that is bike plus some floor work. New tape, should try it.

Training feeling pretty good, trying to get the ducks in a row. You would think there just would be more "time" in the day to not "talk/do tri" Besides the training, just the details of everything does seem to consume one. Trying to get my flights together, transportation, plus all of the true tri stuff sometimes just overwhelms me. Having a fun time most of the time.

Still trying to figure out how to use a wetsuit since I live in the islands and can almost swim 365 days in a bikini. I want to use a sleeveless due to feeling constricted but scared I might get too cold. I even get chilled here on occasion, being thin skinned.

Can't believe how quick it is coming up, have 2 months of some "get down to it training" ahead. Hope you all are feeling good!
Nice thread to read, thanks!

33, so yup, you're the oldest, grandpa

I'll be driving to Idaho from CA. It's a twenty-four hour drive for me, but I just can't imagine handing my bike over to those mooks at the airport. I am taking a few extra days and going to go over to Washington and Montana for a bit after the race, so driving makes sense.

My offer still stands if anyone wants me to shuttle their bike from Los Angeles to Idaho.

Mike - Cheers for the Promotion tip, I've seen them recommended loads of times on slowtwicth so think I'll go with it.

Am I the youngest here at 27?

My goals are a sub 13 hours finish and to enjoy the experience!

Cheers

Hello All-

I live here in CDA.  I ride the course often (though not in its entirety).  Yes, there are hills and yes you will ride them all twice (some 4 times because the first section of the courese is out and back).  The hills are steep, but not long.  The longest hill is W. Riverview Drive.  I would say it is under 2 miles, the rest are short.  Slip into an easy gear and you can usually stay in the saddle.

Here is the bonus...

The bike aid stations in IMCDA rock!!  It is a serious community contest to have the best aid station.  According to IMNA, they are the best on the circuit.

Come have fun!

Will they still rock this year?  I heard a rumor that one of the top bike course station captains desided to race this year.

That's a great idea!  Anyone else up for it?  I live close and can host a couple people if you want to make it cheaper.  How about a weekend in May?

And make sure there's an extra seat on that private charter so you can pick me up here as well.

I thought about that thought last fall.  Take a weekend trip and check out the course and get familiar.....instead of arriving in June and looking like a hick with big round eyes looking at everything......being overwhelmed and drooling.....

I'm still working on getting the vacation time off from work for June.  So that dream is popped.  So when you see me in June, I'll be the guy that looks lost and stumbling around gawking at all the studs and studettes.

But a great idea for any that can do it.     80 days to go.  Please weather stay nice!

You already are a stud. I hear you like to pop wheelies with no hands when crossing the finish line!

Last weekend in May (Mermorial Day Weekend).  There is a Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday.  The last half of the full and all of the half is on almost the same course as the IM marathon.

Hello-

Anyone that wants to come out for a training weekend is welcome to stay at my house.  We can look at the bike course and run course.  Like "T" said there is a 1/2 and full marathon Memorial Day weekend.  I will be in Walla Walla doing OnionMan (oly) that weekend for my first "tri" experience.  Offer still stands for anyone that wants a bike/run course tour right before IMCDA.  I am going to take Friday off and will be at whoever's disposal.  Flyboy and T are close and could probably help, if they are game.
